This just makes me realise that I probably wouldn't immediately guess these were Digimon characters unless somebody told me. Maybe I'm just not attached to the characters enough?I don't know if I'll get blasted for this but upon watching up to Tamers I'm kind of confused about all the praise Adventure gets. Is it just nostalgia? I grew up on the virtual pets and toys but never got too into Adventure because it was so different from what I thought Digimon was.

I rewatched adventure not long ago and is still the best series in my opinion. The setting is perfect, the werid digital world with its telephone booths and traffic signals, the pacing is very good meeting new digimon all the time and characters powering up in a set order not just in digimon power but also in character growth.
It just keeps getting better and better, first act is pure exploration, the villians are al great, etemon is just funny as hell, myotismon actually attacking women like a vampire, when the kids get separated the plot uses that to explore different facets of their personalities
I rambled but bottom line for me Adventure is fucking awesome and a must watch anime even if you dont like digimon. One of the best shonen ever made.

I'm just not a big fan of how it kind of did away with the virtual pet aspect and focused more on the children than the Digimon. I might be misinterpreting something I read long ago but I feel like there was some interview where somebody said something to the tune of "the Digimon didn't have much personality because the focus was more on the kids" etc etc and that's really disappointing. This is probably just getting into personal opinions territory but that's my biggest complaint about Adventure (and 02 I guess but that's a whole other story). The main focus is the kids and they hardly have any personality outside of really basic character traits like "the main kid", "sporty girl","girly girl", etc and the "character growth" that people praise Adventure for is almost nonexistent. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a kids show, but given the praise it gets and how much it was hyped to me I just don't get it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and its my favourite after Tamers but I don't know. I guess for me Tamers struck the ideal balance with developing both Digimon and humans as characters, at least with the main 3.

Maybe you are mistaking development with plot interaction? Because the tamers digimon were indeed more proactive about what they plot tossed at them than the adventure ones.

Yeah the regression thing is my main gripe. I get why it's there, its a lot easier to draw them in their simpler forms frame after frame, and it allows them to pad out episode length with magical girl transformations. It would have been really interesting to see a more v-pet like approach and have them train really hard to evolve. I like how they handled it in v-tamer at least.

Yeah it's my first time, I saw maybe like 2 random episodes in Japanese as a kid but at that time I was more into neopets probably. I'm a huge Lain fan so I'm probably too biased towards Tamers to be honest. I was getting Lain vibes from the start and just figured out the other day that it was the same guy. There's a lot of explaining done by the adults that I feel like should have been cut back, or handled differently. I guess maybe they felt like they had to since it was sort of a different interpretation of Digimon and kids might get confused? Or maybe Konaka just really likes lengthy technobabble exposition. I will admit that the whole "one kid being responsible for designing all Digimon" thing was kind of lame. I think they just got to into trying to explain every single thing, when not everything needed to be explained.
On a more positive note, I really liked Kenta and and Hirokazugetting their own Digimon, even if it seemed a bit rushed

Sora's growth hit a little close to home as someone with strict and weird parents. Blame Konaka. The director told him at the beginning that Ryo was going to be a part of Tamers and he ignored him and passed Ryo off to the other writes. From there they just left him as Ruki's character development machine.

Since there is anime talk I want to say that Im enjoying xros wars immensely, just got to the second arc and the only bad thing of the first one (the 2 other kids that do nothing) disappear from the show so this can only get better.
I guess it got criticism because there is no longer classic evolution but the shows handles the new gattai mechanic it very well I think.

I feel your pain, I'm a sucker for halloween/spooky stuff so I really want Nightmare Soldiers but every Pendulum goes for ridiculous prices. I don't know how much NS usually goes for though, I never see it. I only ever see Deep Savers which go for $80-100 at the cheapest. If you look around on Yahoo Auctions Japan long enough you can find some good deals. That's how I've got all my Digimon stuff so far at least. I got a grey V1 in package for $38 the other day, cheaper than I got my loose V3 and V4. I also got Ruki's D-Ark for about that much too.
You can use middleman sites like Buyee or others to get stuff from YAJ. I've heard people say there are better options than Buyee but I like that they have YAJ integrated into their site.

I've heard that there are some issues with Cyber Sleuth's localization, such as the female main character being referred to with male pronouns. Does that happen ALL the time, or just sometimes? And aside from that, what other issues are there? Trying to decide if I want to import it if it's really bad, or just buy it locally if it's just minor issues since it's cheaper.
Unrelated, but how's the DLC? Most Japanese games I buy don't have DLC or don't have DLC that interests me, so I just use an American PSN account, so if I get the Japanese version of Cyber Sleuth I won't be able to use the DLC. And are there any DLC Digimon aside from the pre-order only ones?

All pronouns on the japanese game are gender neutral, but the translation defaults it to male 80% of the time.
Sometimes it calls you a girl, usually when someone would call you a child, like on the DLC quests.
Also they sort of fuck up on a lot of other stuff, but it's no big deal really, the main story is mostly intact. Mostly.
No DLC digis other than pre-order, although remember to update your game to ver 1.04 for 7 new digis.

I think the real strength of Adventure was that it was very relatable to actual kids
like how Yamato and Takeru's parents were divorced and how that affected them
or how Jyou gained confidence and realized he didn't have to follow in his family's footsteps
or how Taichi always acted confident and headstrong but he was actually unsure of himself a lot of the time and afraid he wouldn't be able to protect his sister
also how he learned to not be so stubborn and insensitive to the needs of others
the kids and the digimon help each other but I think they made it a point that the digimon would help the kids more so that it would be more relatable to kids in that way

I waited to do consolidated shipping for 3 different things, and they charge 500 Yen (I think) for each package consolidation so it added up. From what I gather they make you pay the domestic shipping they had to pay, and also make you pay the price to ship it to you. There's cheaper plans and they can be kind of sneaky about it, didn't even notice until a couple months ago that there were cheaper options when bidding that do away with inspection fees or whatever. Even if you do away with all the extra stuff they try and push at you, you'll probably ending up saving $8 or so.
Also don't fall for their "add protective packaging" thing unless you're really nervous about something happening. I've ordered probably about 20 different things through them at this point, zero of which had protective packaging, and they all came ridiculously protected regardless. Granted a decent portion of those were Touhou fumos, but still.

You should check out Digimon Tamers 1984. It's a short story set before the series and features more backstory on the kid who drew Digimon and the first monster who realized. It might make it seem less weird. It's been so long since I've seen Tamers I can't remember what I thought of it. I do like how it seems like an homage to the Digimon contests that were held. Some of the earliest Digimon like BIrdramon, Angemon and Whamon were all silly kid drawings. It's homaged with Takato too. Maybe that kid was supposed to be Kenji Watanabe as a kid or something.

I've never seen the dub version of Hurricane Touchdown so I can't speak for that, but the Japanese version was a bit strange for a shounen film to say the least. I can't imagine a bunch of excitable little kids sitting through that whole thing and enjoying it. I liked the weird tone and pacing because it felt sort of dream-like personally but there were a bunch of random parts that didn't make sense. They just glossed over a bunch of Japanese kids who can't speak a lick of English suddenly ending up in America and then (I might be wrong on this) they go from NYC to what looked like the midwest or west coast really fast. I'm so upset. I'm raising two Digimon V-pets, a V3 and V4 and everything was going fine for a while. My Tanemon evolved into Piyomon before Tokomon evolved into something, and I was really excited. Then yesterday while in the car I looked down and there was nothing on my Piyomon's screen, like it was just blank. My first guess was maybe I got bad batteries? But then I tapped the thing a bit and an egg came on screen. One screw-tightening later everything seemed to be fine. She evolved into Tanemon again and when I woke up this morning it turned out she evolved into Piyomon overnight. I decided to have her and Patamon battle a bit this morning and on the 5th battle she suddenly reset again? Does anybody have any idea what's causing this? I'm not strong at all, and I'm definitely not ham handing my Digimon. Both times I just put her down gently. Is something loose on the internals, are the batteries not touching the contacts properly? What could it be?
tl;dr - My V4 Digimon V-pet has suddenly reset on me twice, and only after it turned into Piyomon, For the record I've actually tried jostling it and tapping it and it didn't reset.

I would say that the manga has a stronger feeling of it being a war, sparrowmon actually stays relevant instead of being tossed aside once Mervamon (who doesn't exist in the manga) joins and Kiriha, Bagramon are better handled and there's a wider variety of Xrosses and evolutions. However, some characters like Yuu were omited from the manga in favor of manga originals like Kotone, Beelzebumon simply appears because and doesn't really do anything and while the great three generals stays for more time relevant, I kind of liked the death generals. Oh, and there's one or two random time skips where they recruited mons/saved zones off screen, so that might make people feel like they missed something.
Overall, I would say both are good, with the manga having better characterization for the antagonists and Kiriha and a better endgame battle

Do it whenever leveling up is too much of a pain.
Roughly 10% stat loss but level resets to 1, so you can grab those 10% back easily, then evolve again, which also resets you to 1 so you can get more stats, then repeat forever.

Outside of post-game a Hard mode run can be pretty fun. If you rush the hell out of it and finish before reaching Mega even once anyway. Otherwise you'll probably be too strong to die.

I loved it. The themes of it make it one of the most touching movies for me. It did have problems but so does literally everything with the Digimon name on it. Plus without it we'd never had Terriermon in Tamers!

It wasn't nonsense at all. It was thematic and logical.
Chocomon dissappeared when Wallace was really young, so as Wendigomon he kept kidnapping Digidestined (with the original Digivices, like Wallace had only) and put it in a different dimension, he kept trying to turn them into the same age Wallace was when Cherubimon dissapeared. The ending was about Wallace and Cherubimon coming to terms with the fact that you can never get your childhood back. It was really poignant.
It works on many levels because Wendigomon is based on mythology of the Wendigo an American Native American legend which is basically a human that transformed into a demon after they ate human flesh and can never stop eating. Wendigomon just craves nostalgia and his childhood, but he still ends up eating people. It just turns them into child Digimon.

This is the most disappointing part of the movie too, but the funny thing about it is that Magnamon and Rapidmon get jobbed too. They just have the power to reach Wendigomon's heart. I wish they had a bigger budget.
Despite all its flaws, like how they probably felt obligated to add Hikari and Takeru's plot to sell toys, it has such a touching storing and really great imagery we never got to see elsewhere in the series, or in anime in general What other anime had a road trip through rural America? It was so slow paced and relaxing too for the first part.
Thinking about the movie right now makes me really want to know what's going on with Imperialdramon and the Digimon Kaiser in Tri Part 2. Daisuke has a moment with Wallace where he starts crying about how he wouldn't know what to do if Vmon ever turns evil, and in this movie we apparently have an evil Vmon and Daisuke is nowhere to be found.

I have a theory that most people hate it because the American Digimon movie butchered it so much too. They butchered the first two movies, but it didn't ruin their plots to the point they didn't make sense at all like the third movie in the American Digimon Movie.
The movie struck such an emotional chord with me after I watched it as an adult because of the themes and imagery. I'm depressed in a rural town so it reminded me when I was a kid and would walk in a woodsy area with my D3.
I never was much of a critic though.

The manga tried to fix how unequal the evolutions in Xros Wars were but I doubt they ever planned it. I think the only reason Shoutmon and ZekeGreymon Digivolve is because at one point they retooled the series. There's a few pictures out there of concept art of Xros's that never appeared in the show what so ever, and a lot of people notice it drops quality once it gets to a certain part with the Death Generals. (I think.)

So far so good, though the time frame for her messing up seems to vary according to my diary. The first time she evolved at 8:46 AM and reset at ~1:07 PM, and the second time she evolved at some time during my sleep and reset at ~8:16.
But yeah the first time the screen was blank until I tapped the side of the vpet a bit, and the second time it went blank in front of my eyes and then reset to the egg almost immediately.

Actually the entire movie is an advertisement for a Japanese Airline and Mazda, which is why at one point that gaijin (voiced by Volcano Ota incidentally) yells about how great American cars are and they hitchhike and fly on a shitty plane to make real planes look good when they pass a billboard on the highway.Like it should have been a 100% shit movie with no heart.
