I feel like within the professional sphere of the game industry, SEGA doesn't have nearly as bad a rep as they do among gamers and "journalists". Especially if you look at Japan where despite Japs never really being huge Sonic fans (or perhaps because they don't care about Sonic), SEGA is a huge presence. Besides game software development that we think of, they run arcades, they run restaurants, they run theme parks, they develop the vast majority of hardware used in arcades, they own a record company, they produce anime, they make otaku-pandering merchandise, etc. There's a lot more to SEGA than people usually think about.

It's the default art style of the modern era, is what I mean. When Uekawa redesigned everyone for Adventure he established the guidelines for the art style. So Sonic X, since it follows the game's art style, looks the same. It's like how the Archie comics (as in Archie the series) have their house style, even if the actual artists drawing the comic changes.
I personally think it's a bit weird to have fingers and not have toes of even the most basic level, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Writers with no travel or life experience will typically write about school because it's the only part of their life where they directly interacted with people. Alternatively, it's really fucking easy to write a school setting, even if you dropped the fuck out in 9th grade, because people inexplicably act like school hasn't changed since the 1960's, and these incapable writers will recycle the same tropes from school-set cartoons of THEIR childhoods--tropes that are based on a bygone age, with events that don't even happen anymore in the dumber parts of Alabama.
