Is there a way to make these little fellas somewhat useful?

Here are the 2 felynes I use the most: I've never seen Pomme manage to paralyze a monster, not even once.

Miel is somewhat okay but I'm not sure about true health flute, he seemed to play the flute more when he had demon flute/armor flute/health flute.

There's no way to make then useful in a damage sense, but your best bets are probably to have a pacifist horn blower like you already do + a thief cat for the chance at extra materials.

That being said there's always the odd chance you get a heroic felyne moment.

Armor mentions mystery and its white brilliance. Some of the weapons have rather grim descriptions like sacrifice, others talk about driving the darkness away. Absolute Bowgun litertally just mentions it can rapid fire Pierce S Lv1 and every non-Dragon elemental shot.

Black Fatty armor on the other hand implies some pretty bad things happening to the wearer.

Bushido is pretty much the only thing keeping GL sort of relevant in the endgame.

Yes GL is the second worst weapon in MHX, but it's still better than it was in 4U.

The weapon ranking in MHX goes Lance > DB > HBG > GS = SA > LS = Bow > LBG > SnS = IG = CB > Hammer > GL > HH but unlike 4U, HH is the only actually bad weapon, and even then only solo, and the gaps between the best weapons and the worst are both much smaller, and only readily apparent at top level play.

GL was actually nerfed in MHX, MVs with the heat gauge being similar to the change to sharpness in MHX or the third-gen LS, where you need to do more just to make something as good as it used to be.

No, really. As clunky as songs were in it, the attack up ones were basically broken. Speed running videos with adrenaline and these songs for thousands of attack rating was common as hell.

Now that you can remove limiters and HBG can load wyvernfire in addition to another shot type simultaneously, as well as clusterbombs and crag (making it the most stylish weapon), GL should just be removed to be honest. It has no niche even aesthetically, it's weak and they keep nerfing it and it would be easy to explain ingame by just saying "it fell out of style because it's impractical to maintain" or something.

The easy way to rebalance HH to be good solo and not overpowered multiplayer would be to make songs much stronger when playing solo. Capcon will never do this because they're lame dorks though.

Like I said, HH reached broken levels in 2nd gen but only in a speed running scenario, else they were the buff bitch.

Im really not much of a fan about how 4th gen just doesn't seem to know what to do with the old weapons, MH2 and Tri/P3rd improved the older weapons so much but most changes from 4U just feel like random gimmicks they came up with.

Part of it's simple as monsters move around a fuck ton in 4th gen. Cross at least restored some turn-a-pound windows to be more classic, but still left HH weak and crumbling.

In 4U the largest portion of the roster was C tier and S and A were both just so vastly overpowered compared to B and C that the difference was more noticeable. And the game was balanced for C. The only D tier weapons were solo HH, GL and SA. And that's talking solo speedruns. In 2-4 player play pretty much everything but LS, SA and GL has some kind of niche to fill (with LS still being strong enough to be solid despite not being a great online weapon inherently) is strong and the top four weapons and especially the top two are still completely broken, and in normal low- to mid-level solo play SA, GL and HH don't even lag behind other weapons that much because their good reach, HH's eclectic hitboxes for getting easy head strikes on pretty much any monster and GL's shield means they have more good matchups than most weapons (again except for GS and IG).

It is though. It's basically doubling the bowguns by completely changing their functionality/gimmick while also not locking bowgunners out of offline viability for their weapon choice assuming they're anything less than perfect expert players who never ever make mistakes.

Limiter removal on LBG is much worse than on HBG, it honestly needs a damage boost as well. Ironically despite removing the gimmick that is vastly more usable online, LBG benefits much more from removing the limiter online because of the ability to load every status ammo at once and hotswap them to keep the monster locked down with para, then sleep, then reloading those while people set up bombs, then para again, then either sleep again or actual shot types (already loaded) while it has the 10% damage boost and so on.

Unless you're rapidfiring something like crag that has a very small maximum ammo capacity anyway, though, limiter removal can save your life offline and has a minimal impact on damage- Rapidfiring raw type shots (besides slicing) has diminishing returns with each shot in the volley, and you can generally fire elemental shot types almost as fast as rapidfiring anyway (not factoring in reload time) and don't actually need 3 or 4 times your max capacity to kill most monsters.

They made getting into and out of crouch fire faster, and there's a hunter art that gives you bonus damage on your next X shots that can easily be maintained indefinitely. HBG is absolutely viable for offline unless you are fucking terrible.

It's nothing close. Nowhere is this more evident than hammer's straggling behind. The weapon didn't evolve at all and can barely catch heads. Deviljho would be a shining example of a monster I can jump back on 3U and adrenaline HH and pull off an infinite chain of head hits, but can't nearly take advantage of that in 4U/cross.

Rapid Fire is still mostly the same, but Absolute Evasion skills let you take more risks anyway. Bowgun now thrives on staring a monster dead in the face, firing off volleys and diving out of the way at the last possible moment. And with the addition of Full Reload, you're encouraged to use shots you can't rapid fire.

Late reply but whatever.

If you want your cats to be able to actually paralyze a monster, you need them both to have paralysis attack and abnormal status attack up and focus on large. Purrsistent and courageous are purrobably the best purrsonalities, and I THINK boomerang only is the best attack type (because you don't care about their damage, just their paralysis output, but maybe melee cats inflict more paralysis? I haven't experimented with it). Make sure to max out their defense too, so they can stay alive and keep inflicting paralysis.

I do this and my cats usually get at least one paralysis per hunt, sometimes two on paralysis weak monsters.

Monster behavior isn't the problem, hammer doesn't have any more trouble 'keeping up' with the monster than any other weapon... if anything the uppercut makes it particularly good at chasing (see: a Zinogre that wants to charge up).

Elevation is the problem, desu. Where a charge blade can instantly dump an attack that does hundreds of KO in just a second, and it'll still be completely effective while the monster's flailing around on a slope since it has delayed impact, hammer has to keep up constant pressure and stay rooted to one spot to get a golfswing out. It doesn't depend on the monster, it depends on the map. Even the most skilled hammer is gonna get dicked by V Hollow extreme hill zone.

CB use is relegated to true fans and people who can't quit it. It almost gets the pity pick. IG isn't quite what it was, and takes more hits to get a ride. DB will always retain its place as the number one pick of streamers and memers.

I would like a greatbow weapon that is the ranged counterpart to the greatsword. I can't really see HBG as being that despite the slow movement. Just a big greatbow that hits hard with one shot and doesn't need any power coatings to be good. No coatings at all, just different arrows besides the default single shot one. Pierce, explosive, maybe a barbed one that does its own sort of damage over time effect.

It would be nice to have a bow type that shoots one arrow that isn't shitty pierce, though. Not sure it would require a new weapon class. Could be "strong" type or something and be affected by artillery instead of silver bullet, since it'd be shooting basically fucking ballista bolts.

Aerial is shit in general. It completely gimps your roll with a slow, clunky hop that can't be used to evade, and the damage inflicted by endlessly ramming into the monster and poking it with mount attacks is minimal at best.

Guild is by far the best "all around", and Bushido is good if you whore out evasion or know how to effectively dodge.

Aerial has trouble competing in terms of TA from what I've seen. There's not a lot of aerial runs out there, but the ones I have seen aren't significantly behind other styles, but it doesnt look like they can beat be beat by aerial. In team TA's it's good for that lockdown stuff with mounts, traps, and status.

Dung bombs force one monster to flee. Flash bomb when both are looking at you if you need time. Use stuff like poison or slime if neither resist it. Multi monster quests give them less HP, so you can use those kinds of quests for farming multiple monsters at a time if you want. Good luck.

None of those are ever worth it because shells consume sharpness that would be better spent on thrusts, and sharpness is the most valuable resource in MH.

Look at any GL speedrun in 3U, and you'll see that they never even bother loading any shells.

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the Heat Gauge concept, the numbers are just completely fucked, and shells need a significant decrease in the amount of sharpness they consume.
Honestly, I blame Bushido GL for dragging the rest of the weapon down into the dirt because if GL still had all of its regular values from 4U, plus the heat gauge bonus, and then the absurd motion values from its Bushido moves, the weapon would have been fucking nuts.

I came into an area and a Seltas queen was just walking around looking up at the sky before it noticed me. Are there any other monsters with unique animations like that when they don't see you? In battle, the queen pretty much never stretches to look up like that since she's focused on hunters all the time.

Also, the Seltas broke like three of her parts with that charge attack. I love these silly bastards, really glad they're both back for X.

The poor performance of gunner weapons on this fight can be explained simply by players not having enough ammo to get through it. GL suffers because of its overreliance on Bushido, which is a very poor style to use against any version of Zinogre.
