Yes basically when a unit routs it turns round and flees directly away from the nearest enemy unit. you roll two or three dice for the unit and thats how far it goes. The enemy unit then gets to roll dice and if it rolls higher it destroys the unit completely.

Yeah units panicking is a core mechanic. Plus a number of spells are calculated based on the target's leadership statistic. Not sure if I'd call Leadership (in TT) the exact same as morale (in TW) though, as it's not a quality that diminishes over time. It's just being flanked or having a ton of units die at once gives a huge hit to both Leadership AND Morale.

Set a trap with both guns and spears but put a unit or two in front to pull their attention.
Turn fire at will off on your gun users. You'll want to move them behind the enemy for when the enemy Kachi move to engage your melee forces.
As they charge in, get your gun users to open fire into the enemy rear. You'll kill hundreds in the first few volleys. Finally, move your commander in to keep morale up.

They toned down the blood in TW games due to scale? Anon, looking from previous games, without fail, they ALWAYS come up with blood dlc a few months after the game, with the base game actually lacking the blood, despite having enough resources for this. TW:W is using the same modified engine, and (if to be believed) already done months ago, now just tweaking and squashing bugs (supposedly). Given the fantasy setting, how can they still omit blood? It's good, but mostly it only uses names from Warhammer Fantasy and the rules of American Football as a mild suggestion. It's good fun and very polished in its own right but there is more RNG than XCOM and you won't come out with a better understanding of the factions in TW:WH other than the broadest generalizations (Brets rely on Knights/Blitzers, Empire is rounded but unspecialized, Dwarfs are slow but well armored, etc.). Still, good way to see more humor out of the Warhammer property.

Gunpowder already is better than magic. Still Its strange that they decided to make dwarf handgunners competent in melee. In TT they are heavily armoured but in no way competent melee units. I suppose having no cav had nerfed dwarfs hard in the adaptation to total war.
