Ogres, humans, high elves and chaos dwarfs aren't very nice, for me personally, although in Total Warhammer I'll probably play the Empire first, because it feels right or something.
I don't believe that the factions necessarily tell much about the person, because it is always a matter of perspective why people like a certain race.

Priest (Vizier) Kings became the Tomb Kings. They were fairly similar to what they are now (an Egyptian civilization with a particular reverence for the dead), the main differences being that their land was a breadbasket not a valley of death and that they were flesh/blood not skeletons.
