Get very used to being hit to critical hp a lot. Powerful healing is a must.
Ailments + binds + buffs/debuffs are mandatory. EOU2 is worse than most games in the series in regards to monsters having ailment immunity, but they're still useful against the majority of enemies and bosses.
Don't neglect HP UP passives or you will die even more than normal.
Max your protector's Front Guard and get the elemental Wall skills to at least 5. Don't have a protector? Get one.

The first one was pretty grindy, especially since you couldn't reallocate stats/skills for dealing with specific bosses. Also the default portraits were ugly as heck.
The second was better in a lot of ways, and there was a lot more custom shit you could do with characters. Neither are really something you could compare with EO though, since they utilize a kind of ATB system, mid battle character swapping and the maps are isometric instead of first person, without custom stuff to add into them. Whoever that guy was must have been a looney.

Evasion in EOII is for TP building, as anyone who focuses on Evasion seriously is going to have Ninja as a main or subclass. If you've giving that to a Hoplite, I'd focus on the passive over the skill that halves your HP, since lowering your HP by that much is awful for tanking. And if you're using the evasion for negating attacks, put a point in each of the parries for just in case evasion fails, any more is wasteful since the extra points just raise the success chance by like 1 each.

Arbalists have shit for TP and Front Mortar is expensive as fuck, so it's going to need all the evade it can get if you're going that route. You might even want to max out Kumogakure and Otori, and then stack accessories to survive hits from the most common multi-attacks in case your evasion says no. Being squishy is far less of a big deal when you're taking half or less damage from the most annoying shit you have to face.
