We don't know the actual details behind how it would work so one cannot rightly speculate on it. What happened to Hajime is something that can be done to you right now through surgery, minus you suddenly being good at everything. Transferring conciousness from one body to another is currently an impossibility. If some doctors opened up your skull and messed with your brain so you'd lose your memories and empathy, you'd still be you. Who "you" are would simply have changed. No different than, say, your parents dying in an airplane crash and you suddenly coming to hate planes and refusing to ever fly in one, even if you were a frequent flyer prior to the accident.
