Alright, help me out here
threw together a normal gunning LBG set, I get Normal Up, Evasion +2, Fleet Feet, and Trajectory from this loadout, but I have 5 slots left over and I'm wondering what 5 slot skill I should slap in there.
I was thinking Sense so I could effectively get the benefits of both barrel types (long barrel/silencer), but Combo Plus looks good as well for making sure I always get 4 rounds per combine for my normal shots.
What does /mhg/ think?

ok first of all
I'm assuming you're using Steve's LBG because that makes the most sense for normal gunning with LBG. LBG with limiter on is already the most mobile gunner weapon; if you need evasion+2 and evade extender on it, then you really, really need to reevaluate your positioning.
For that same reason, you don't need trajectory. It's very easy to stay in critical range, and slicing shots don't even have a critical range (I'm actually not sure about that though).
Throw all of those skills except for normal up in the garbage and get challenger+2 and stack attack up. Maybe get weakness exploit, but that's more useful on HBG than LBG because it requires you to land all of your rapid fire shots on the weakpoint to be fully effective.

There's no such a thing as good elemental weapon, as a matter of fact the best weapons for elemental (read: the ones that scale elemental damage) are ones were the users essentially don't give a fuck about elemental damage (GS, CB and HBG, all for different reasons).
Depending of the game you'll get weapons with GOOD raw and GOOD sharpness with the bonus of having elemental attached to it, lances in 4u for example get silly good elemental weapons with great raw, sharpness and element.
DS is about the only weapon where element is mandatory due to low MVs (LBG on the other hand gets the element sticker on because otherwise it is an under performing HBG).

Because it has pretty much the same fucking moveset with almost no improvements since what, Freedom 2? You are completely reliant on hitting the head and you can be as harmful as a LS or Lance user online, while also dealing "shit" damage compared to many other weapons.

You can also use diablos pants instead of brachy, I have brachy because my talisman is recoil +3, bombardier +7 000, so I also get recoil down +1 and bombardier, but those are both effectively useless on the vayu.
Basically just stack attack skills and gitgud at aim, I only have evade extender because vayu rapid fires 4 slice shots, which means if I get greedy on shots I need to get out in a hurry.
Did I mention this set looks bitchin'?

Apart from that some weapons either benefit hugely from element because of how they work (like DB, IG and LBG) while others are set up to be great with element because they have inflated elemental values and lower raw values (like lance). Elemental versions of those relevant to the specific monster you're hunting will usually outperform the best pure raw option by a significant amount.

Kirin isn't weak to any element, raw is better but not good. It also can't be paralyzed and takes less than usual damage from poison. Blast is what you want for kirin, and KO to immobilise it for LBGs and DBs to unload blast on it since it likes to jump around.

yes, on slicing shots as well as crag shots it's the initial impact damage of the shot which takes the rf / crit distance penalty, but the actual effect damage is unaffected. Because the impact damage is so negligible, for all intents and purposes they have no rf penalty / crit distance penalty.
While we have gunnerbros here, I just had stars align on a gq and I have some questions. It was a sub-5 dual rajang with randoms and no carts, that was probably my first hint I was about to get lucky.

a max raw hbg with 3 free slots is hard to come by so I'm inclined to keep it, but without normal or pierce crouch fire I'm not sure what to do with it. Are elemental hbgs good? should I remove the limiter and use it as a normal boat?

From the exact same hunt I got a max raw lbg with great ammos that RFs normal 2, crag, freeze, and para. that I'm definitely keeping.

Personally I'd drop the limiter and use it for pierce/raw. 5 p3 is enough on the Teostra's Firestorm, my personal favourite HBG for aesthetics and firing all the explosive shit, to staggerlock most non-GQ monsters, and that has much less raw than a max raw relic. And the normal clip is obviously great.
As far as I know elemental HBGs aren't very good, but that might just be relative to pierce/normal HBG.

A HBG that sieges an elemental shot is aces if you have the moments to pump it out.
And I personally really like the ones that have element as well as para for siege since that gives you a lot of support and damage options.
They fall off compared to limiter-removed pierce/normal ones, but shine a lot in online play since you have more wiggle room.Plus I'm a sucker for the roll into siege.

Dual Blades are such weird weapons in 4. All the double element/element status ones are odd as hell. But why do people prefer to go with the Typhoon for ice instead of Blizzard and Blaze? Slightly less raw but much better sharpness and +10% affinity. It has two slots less but doesn't require to gem in Awaken.
I know that each blade applies status/element individually so it's kinda shittier, but won't it outdamage the Typhoon given that the blast status will eventually build up and trigger?

Jade Battlefanzers are the best sleep DBs that don't require awakening, though they don't come close to the crossenders as water DBs. Ultimus Apocalypse is pretty good for Kushala or whatever else is weak to both elements, has high raw high sharpness and high elemental.
As for typhoon vs blizzard and blaze, the typhoons require awakening and after accounting for sharpness (purple runs out near-instantly) have 38 ice, while accounting for both sharpness and the fact that only one blade applies ice B&B effectively has 29, significantly less, and its blast value is fairly low to begin with. In terms of raw B&B do win out slightly after accounting for the 2.5% extra damage from affinity and the better sharpness, but I'd say overall without actually comparing dps/killtimes on a stationary target that they're probably close to equal on an ice-weak target.

In general the only dual-element DBs worth using are status + element ones. Things like the Zinogre DB path will always underperform compared to a simple 1-element DB
Personally I enjoy Blizzard and Blaze a lot, it's cool to do some Blast damage for easier part breaking against Ice-weak monsters

Handicraft gives you extra sharpness points, which means more damage and less bouncing, but it's not essential for caravan. You should go for it if you are soloing GH or going G rank though, every last bit of sharpness helps.

Set one will be a lot better against kushalas and longer hunts due to Ceadeed having smallish purple. That being said, set 2 is probably stronger against most things due to Ceadeed being so much stronger than Waxglare. You should be using set 2 most of the time, solid set.

Did no one in testing realize how poorly executed ledges and slopes were? I like the idea for vertical combat and slopes aren't too bad if they aren't quick sand but there's no excuse for cancelling out a roll because you accidentally got too close to a ledge.
I'm thinking about branching out to a different weapon. I love the charge blade but I wanna try something new. Is hammer or gunlance any fun? I used to use a lot of gs/ls in the older games and could go back but I wanna try something new entirely.

Why are people always doing this? You can't generalize classes like this when there are so many unique cases of raw/element ratios. There are Great Swords with 700 element damage that only have slightly less raw than the next GS and probably even more sharpness and slots. Of course there is a good chance it's better for a monster weak to the specific element than the weapon with no element damage.
For example, you would probably rather use the Black Fatalis GS for Shagaru than the Diablos GS which has worse sharpness, worse affinity and no element but ~150 more raw.
Personally I would still prefer the Seregios GS but that's just because of its gimmick.
Of course element is even more important for other weapon classes. No idea why this retard even lists Insect Glaive and SnS. /mhg/ is infested with dumb shitposters, though.
99% the /mhg/ players also suck ass, so you shouldn't listen to everything they say anyway.

I play bow on mho, never played it before because i'm a terrible shot in console monhun. But god damn it, you can rack up beast damage with a bow, aiming is super easy, and keeping your critical distance from the monster is not even an inconvenience, camera movement is a mindless task with a mouse.
It can be really fun but, I change to blademaster every now and then because it does get rather repetitive.

Depends entirely on what weapon you're using and what monsters you're fighting. Rathalos is pretty solid. Also despite what anon said, sharpness+1 will make your life easier buy is by no means a required skill for singleplayer. And if you're a gunner there isn't really any single required skill, though singleplayer Evade Extender is really peachy to have on HBG because your mobility is shit, your block is worthless and you take nine years to sheathe.
That said any armour or no armour is fine if you git gud, there's aspies here who have done most of the quests naked.

Lagombi is great for any weapon. Repeatedly rolling with EE is as fast as sprinting, the only way you can move faster with a weapon drawn is lance's charge which is between sprinting and panic running. Sheathing is also great for pretty much anything but DB, HH, Bow and SnS. And the most important thing to consider, which is that it looks great on both genders. I went through the whole game from singleplayer 4* to g3 in Lagombi, no regrets.
Should I bother with Narga armor in 4U?
