I watched the demo video for Angel Beats. It was a pain because it only showed English and thus I had to listen to the girl speaking to know what the original Japanese was. Overall, it's obviously an amateur translation, in a similar manner as Koisuru was. It's generally accurate but he clearly doesn't understand some of the more nuanced/"advanced"/whatever bits of Japanese grammar (he messed up/ignored ところ like three times in the video) which leads to some inaccuracies. Furthermore, and this probably won't be a problem for most of you, but he doesn't even try to translate the feeling of the text - he ignores sentence endings like よ・ね・わ and sticks to literally translating the "core meaning" of the sentence. He isn't machine translating, but he's also not experienced in Japanese or translating.
tl;dr he's someone who's studied Japanese for a year or so but is translating before gaining fluency and thus is almost certainly going through with a dictionary close in hand or texthooking. Given that the video covers only 8 minutes and I can't see the Japanese for the MC / narration it could be worse but given how fast he's going I doubt it.

Does anyone else feel like the extremely high level of emotional intelligence and insight into character provided by extensive reading of visual novels is starting to negatively influence their own human relationships?
Every time my friends tell me about their feelings my first instinct is grimace slightly, because so often their feelings are more simplistic and base than the most shallow of visual novel characters. I seriously had a friend rave about this girl he met, and his dialogue was word-for-word the stuff every dating simulator protagonist has ever said about anything. Needless to say, I called him stereotypical and he looked pretty hurt. After explaining how everything he's feeling has been felt a hundred times over, and is really as banal as the hunger one feels for breakfast, he seemed to cool down but I dunno if he's gotten over it. Another time I heard my parents arguing (I still live with them) pretty hotly, and it was obvious the subject they were so fervently disagreeing over was trivial and they were just letting emotions control their behaviour like children. I spoke up and explained how to resolve the problem (using some integrative complexity) and the fighting stopped, though they didn't seem to pleased with my intervention. Shit like this is really making it hard to maintain relationships. It's like I'm a hundred years older (and thus wiser) than everyone else, which makes all this feel like I'm attempting to maintain friendship with elementary schoolers far below my emotional intelligence. All my "real" friends are fast becoming those of similar intelligence to me, which frankly are just the characters written long-dead authors and eroge scenarists. I feel like this is a dangerous road to walk though, what do you think? Should I watch some hollywood movies and cut off books/vns to dumb myself down? Or continue to grow in maturity and intelligence, isolating myself from my boorish peers?

How does that make any sense and why is that relevant? MG poll responders should be people willing to pay for their products, which is who they need to appeal to. I'm sure the "real fans" aren't even going to bother responding to those polls.
