I didn't think Generations was very good.
The classic Sonic gameplay wasn't really fun party because the physics weren't the same as classic games and also because the later level designs were awful.
Modern Sonic gameplay was fine but it's just the same hold-x-to-boost rollercoaster gameplay which gets boring fast.

Look, I do like the Robeatnik Mix, but it's really not that special.
I still don't believe the story of Jun Senoue listening through OCRemix Sonic music and thinking that Jones was good enough to be hired. Even back when Jones was active on OCRemic, there were better artists doing Sonic music.
Music that didn't sound like as if they moved just a few buttons for effects and called it a day.
More like Jun tried to contact others but Jones was the only one to believe that it was the real Senoue.

I didn't enjoy Colors or Generations. The 2d sections which make up something 85% of the game weren't fun and just made me want to replay the Genesis games.
Unleashed was only okay.
Boom is bad, but not nearly as horrendous as everyone says it is. It's definitely not worse than 06 like a lot of people have been saying.
I think a lot of the Sonic/Tails Game Gear games are good.

Ah, okay. Paint Tool Sai's vector has the options to make lines thinner or thicker very easily. Might want to try it to get some lines going inwards more pointy.
Though I have no idea if any file created with Sai works with Illustrator or InDesign and vice versa.

I've heard of Sai and tried it for a bit. Though what with me going to university for Graphic Design, they want you to exclusively use the adobe programs and I kind of want to get a handle on illustrator hence the choice in software. Inkscape was also pretty good with vectors before using Illustrator.

Because there was a lot more to his movement that had to be worked out and while Miyamoto hit a stroke of luck and genius in having them figure out Mario's movement completely first, Sega was not so lucky and didn't do anything remotely like that and had a lot more to deal with than Mario.

I think 3D Sonic is a bit more difficult than Mario. It also doesn't help that the 3D games started off with multiple playable characters so the games didn't really have a particular character to design around. I think the biggest challenge is stage design. Hopefully they do more stuff like the big open field from LW's Zelda DLC in the future.

I wouldn't mind more room for players to move around and have more input rather than having the whole thing feel on rails; which sort of disappoints me about some of these newer titles making liberal use of automatic events. However, for the more open levels, I'd be more comfortable if there was at least a clear direction to go especially if this were like a regular point A to point B sonic game.
As an addendum, am I the only one who'd want a modern Sonic R game? I mean just sonic characters foot racing with shortcuts for different types a characters, etc. All Stars is fine and all but I'm just itching for a pure sonic racer again.

I feel that the most important consideration in Sonic the Hedgehog is the most expansive one: level design. Mario and Sonic have had very different approaches to 3D level design for a long time: Mario 64 invented elaborate, integrated world-levels, while Sonic Adventure established a cinematic "rollercoaster" level template. Both have survived in some capacity to the present day. Sonic's is clearly diverging, with Heroes failing to reintroduce exploration elements, Shadow incorporating save-point backtracking, and Unleashed implementing the notorious Nighttime segments. Mario has not had similar problems, to my (admittedly lesser) knowledge.

Speed is a bigger factor in Sonic. The wider a path gets (until it becomes a field), the more divergent the path to the goal becomes and the less likely the player is able to calculate the most direct route.

Well I'm glad I wasn't suffering from false memory syndrome then.
In which case I like the character development that Metal got, going from "Just another machine / boss badnik" to "Gettin' a little creepy now". But I do not like the character development that Metal got in terms of turning against Eggman.
So Neo Metal is a mixed bag for me.
Although the thing about Neo Metal that I probably appreciated most is that he seems to be the only villain in Sonic history who had a plan based on multi-game continuity. He kidnapped Froggy because of a throwaway plot tidbit that happened in Sonic Adventure, 5 years previously.
