And I get that it's fantasy, but there's not a difference between units anymore. No shock infantry, no defensive line, no reason to have any different army compositions or tailoring your armies to different enemies. It's just "throw units at things" Generals seem like they will be the deciding factor in every battle, which is just ducking ridiculous when you're working with large armies.

Every stat is cookiecutter.

That's a terrible point, the stats are now behind the armour piercing, strong defence vs large, strong attack vs large, etc.

What you would have as a number is now under a trait, it's literally the same as before only more varied because of the other units that are not humanoids and magic, also effects like etheral,magic and fire melee attack etc.

You are trying to make it look the same, it's not working, in fact it's the complete opposite and we haven't even seen all the effects yet.

Is this your first Total War game? Those raw stats never include the bonuses they get against specific units. That is what the upper half of the stat box is for, to tell you about those bonuses. Spears have always done more damage to cavalry, but they didn't have high stats than a standard swordsman.

They are a good unit that can put up a good fight against most things, but they will be painfully expensive. Sure, throw your GS against cav. It'll be a waste considering that spearmen could get the job done and are much cheaper.

In FotS, I could make a full stack of armstronk guns. I'd win every battle, but I'd have like one or two armies. Balance is more economical and generally more effective.

Very few of these extravagant collectors' editions have been any good, especially as of late. I came this close to buying the Fallout 4 CE and whataya know, the game and the CE were both shit. I dodged a bullet with that one.

Get the extended stats mod for Attila and boot it up.

wow, the game looks like shit. I know that a M2 mod isn't going to look the greatest, but everything looks so stiff and stilted. Watching some of the units move around is just painful, and basically look like they got the miniatures, and slapped wheels on them for movement.

This has literally been the case for every game in the series. The older engine suffers more, but even from Empire: Total War onwards it has only gotten marginally better, if not worse in some cases

Unit movement can still be stiff at times, trying to maneuver units in towns is painful, sometimes the units can bug out, etc etc

All of the criticism you gave was valid for Rome 2 for a while. And sadly it will likely still be valid for Creative Assembly's latest releases unless they did a major shake-up of their dev team

The only reason why they haven't taken off after Rome 2 is pretty much because of how buggy, unpolished and DLC-fragmented their games tend to be. If they didn't do that shit they would be trending on the pretty huge sale numbers Rome 2 generated compared to their earlier titles

Can't tell on the zoomed in view but that's probably what it is. Which makes sense for Dwarfs, they need to reduce the damage Magic does somehow. I was hoping they'd do it more like the older mechanics, where Dwarfs make magic more likely to misfire just by being there.

Another fun thing is that Thunderers are Shielded while only wearing shields on their backs, which I'm assuming means they're extra defended against non-flanking attacks. Makes sense.

Yeah, going back to the Thundering Falls video it looks like Magical Damage is represented as a blue symbol, so the blue shield is probably Magical Resistance.

Also, on the debate of Thunderers (handguns) versus Quarrellers (crossbows). Looks like it's the same as the tabletop where Crossbows get more range and damage but lose out on armor-piercing.

It's not about navies being too important or not, as it'd just increase micromanagement of little tiny battles on the campaign map.
It already kinda is that way in Shogun 2, navy can be fairly important given the lengths people will go to ship armies, and their very happy port sacking behavior.
None of the intricacies of naval interaction matters as it doesn't meet that poster's desire for really large scale naval battles. The AI just never builds a doomfleet.

I think naval battles are pretty boring in TW games personally so I don't care.

I know Man O' War isn't the most up to date thing, but Total War needs to take a page from their rulebooks. If you hurt a ship enough it gets its movement reduced and is eventually crippled.
