Haven't posted in a while, but I've done a lot of refactoring and art adjustments, and decided on a working title for now. I'll be working hard over the next week to ensure the demo is ready now that I have a lot more time.

I'm still a beginner in pixel art myself so take my advice with a grain of salt but don't be afraid to play with contrast more, try to use darker and lighter colors and see how it looks like.

1. i think your construction is good, i mean the overall shape is very sharp and realistic, so you got that right

2.trees are with no doubt are hard to color, most of the trees iv seen have flat colors or really deep shading, and most of them don't have alot of branches. some artists like to stylize their trees like pic related to create some dramatic effect
3.you definatly should have focused on highlights before small detail, you do have some but its just not noticeable
4.its hard to see the big picture when only 1 asset is presented but its easier to shade trees that have leaves in them, dead trees are certainly good technical practice

A dungeon. With a ring or an amulet deep inside it. You have to obtain that amulet, and then escape the dungeon. You can play as an Elf, a Dorf, a Human, or maybe like a half-orc or something. There will be goblins and slimes in the dungeon, so you'd better be prepared.

How do you even do multiple resolutions without screwing up the sprites? Do you make multiple sets of different sized sprites or does your game just squash/stretch them? Not looking forward to UI and menus, I only finished the main menu and that was a pain for me. Still need to do settings, handling multiple inputs for multiplayer, options, etc. Yuck.

You must mean point/nearest neighbor filtering.
This gets rid of the blurriness but this only useful for games that use pixel art.

I agree with a lot of the points you are making, though I think we kinda got off on the wrong foot. If you are going to only make a game for yourself to enjoy than that can be completely pointless and a wasted of your own time just to fulfill your own narcissistic needs.

What I mean is be your own play tester obviously, and critique your work properly. Using yourself for what you like is a good way to determine if your game is enjoyable or not. Personally, I hate turn based JRPG type combats. I do believe I can make a "Good" turn based RPG, though it would be completely out of my element, and I would dread every bit of play testing, and wouldn't wont to continue it. If I did something I enjoy, let's say like Castlevania for arguments sake, I'd look forward to building something I would actually enjoy.

Sure I can just replay COTM, but my goal is to make similar experience for myself, and the players. Kind of like landscape painters, why bother painting something that has been done 1,000,000 time before?

Answer: Because they enjoy it.

Made some new sprites for when you're low health / near death. Not entirely satisfied with the cursor sprite... it's hard to draw hands.

Apart from these sprites, what's a good way to indicate that you're low health / near death / in danger? I was tempted to put in a 'bloody screen' effect as a joke, but maybe that'd be annoying if it was in there for the whole game.

Made some updates to my low-level socket library. Now I'm able to collect connection quality statistics like ping and packet loss (both C2S and S2C). Useful when simulating shitty connections and for playtesting.

Mixamo (https://www.mixamo.com/) just got bought out by Adobe, so they're putting all their assets up for free, 3d character animations and a few characters, which can be imported into unity (via fuse iirc).

You need an adobe account (free) and here's a script to stick in your chrome dev console: http://pastebin.com/rUrDgm0J

Instructions for chrome users:

>hit F12

>paste the aforementioned script into the console (at the bottom)
>leave it run

It takes a good while to do, and unfortunately it doesn't do characters, but there isn't many of them. Each animation used to cost $15 or so, so this saves you around $32k.

To load the default ship, press 'o'
To delete, its right click
To go into the simulation scene, press 'p'
To load the ship, press 'o', then 'i' to link everything together properly.
The arrow keys control the broken thrust code
'g' activates gravity


If you want to delete the default ship and make your own from scratch, you're going to need to go into 'Builder2.2_data' and delete the only file in the 'Vessels' folder and restart the game.

To save your ship once you've done this, press 'i'.
