need help to id a freeware pc shmup
actually it's not even a proper shmup but a "sandbox" where you load "boss files" or a bunch of those then fight them
it had a very good editor where you could piece parts together to create bosses/fodder and allowed a lot of scripting to the point you could create a proper shmup with stages, boss with multiple phases that could split into multiple sub bosses etc.
i'm not talking about warning forever (it has nothing to do with what i said but every time i ask somebody mentions it)

If you want to pick a legitimate issue with guwange you could of said how unbalanced the stage 3 boss milking makes the game for scoring runs in which case i'd suggest blue label as it's fully re balanced and removes everything annoying about the original, keeping the chain is easier overall. I don't really know, myself. All I can gather is that it's generally seen as being even easier than the first Deathsmiles. I'm not sure how scoring works in Deathsmiles 2 but I think it's a lot simpler than the first one or something, so that might be a factor.
On a non-gameplay note, all the characters seem to have been flanderized a bit compared to the first game, and they kicked the fanservice up to 11. As mentioned, the art style got noticably worsealthough I think Windia's really cute in DS2.
I honestly would like a Deathsmiles 2 port at some point, especially if it comes with an English translation because I'm just... like that. While I certainly don't think it should've been this third port, I hope that it can still happen in the future.

You could still beat the best western score without any milking i believe, if you got a good optimized run of mostly all x16s on enemies and bosses and no miss i reckon 30mill is probably possible.

It's pretty fun to play as a light side-game.
The biggest issue I have is the pacing in most of the stages. It is not okay to have nothing happening on the screen and then suddenly spawning 15 enemies covering the whole screen who then start firing at the same time. That's just screwing over the player.
It doesn't help that some of the characters are completely useless for some stages. So you have to figure out which character fits best in the stage you're playing, which can be a bit annoying.
And then there's also the bossfights where the developer decided it was better to make most patterns confusing and unintuitive rather than straight-forward and sensical. I'm getting so sick of these kinds of pattern in shmups.

Well, I would say I squeezed about 85-90% of the scoring potential out of the photos that I did snap... I might be wrong as I haven't watched the WR replay but they feel reasonably close to being optimised (which is probably 120k-ish for the first three, only possible with RNG I think), and the 215k one might actually be. Taking the last two photos is in some way like playing the lottery; usually I can focus either on dodging the laser or the round bullets and just hope the other happens to fly past, and also that Shou doesn't move in too close, or too far. I haven't really learned how to take the last photo from above, even ignoring Nice Shot bonus, because the lasers spring up very fast, it might even be impossible if Shou is too high on the screen. Still, I think finishing this scene is realistic for me, and pretty fun.

So, I am a pretty newbie player to shmups in general. I managed to 1cc TH08 Normal some years ago and failed to 1cc TH11, so I dropped it. Now I bought myself Mushi and I wonder if that is a good game for what is mostly a beginner. I had word that Cave shooters are overall cool and I've read "Full State of the Jam" a couple of times, so I know about basic theory, but not much more than that. Should I just try to 1cc Novice Original before attempting the base game itself?

Mushi is fine for a beginner. It has Novice Mode which is like an extra easy version of everything in the regular game.

That's a decent start, I guess. Just move up to the higher difficulty levels when you feel ready. Though Novice Original is extremely easy so you might want to at least start at Novice Maniac or Original mode in the regular game.
