Balthier, Vaan, and Basch are all really good. Basch can use Draw Fire/Retaliate in case you don't have Gilgamesh. Ashe is a not-terrible BM, and Penelo's a good WM. Zack is the only one that's all that good in the VII event, though Yuffie has her uses.

You're fucking right they're good, especially Sentinel's Grimoire. Your top priority should be getting Tyro (or Cloud) to level 65 and getting his Memory Crystal 2 from the Hall of Rites, so that you can get the Record Materia that starts you off with a full SB bar.
I'd also recommend getting Gilgamesh from the Hall of Rites ASAP if you don't have him so that you can use that SSB. Perhaps Lightning too, if you can't wait a bit over a month for her next event.

I don't get it, "fixing it" shouldn't take any more effort than just equipping all that stuff yourself, since you'll still have to do that anyway. The only real issue for me is the Default SBs being equipped, since it doesn't replace any RMs or abilities when the character has one equipped.
New guy here, managed to get Basch and Vaan thanks to roaming OP. My melees are yuffie, balthier and Cloud. With ashe hitting weaknesses for completion and penelo has cure and blindna. I read that Basch is really good but is that with an SSB weapon? His basic soul break seems good to use when a boss rolls around.
Also I beat that mission somewhat easily thanks to XII synergy, are the elite ones much harder? I've realized the difference in 5 or 10 on a difficultly score could mean a boss has 2k more hp or 20k more hp

Basch is good even without an SB, Knights are great and he can Draw Fire/Retaliate which is incredibly useful for new players. His default SB honestly isn't worth using like almost every other one, it has a long cast time and the buff is barely noticeable.

Well, Japan has seen an increase in +MAG all SBs which should come to us soon and just got its first 2-hit BM skill, so there might be hope.
Anyone else still playing this game with mage parties? The VII event was still doable, but rather hard, but it feelslike the bosses are gaining a ton of RES every week. My lack of VII synergy probably didn't help.

That's my point. Optimize doesn't make anything faster - I still have to go through everything manually except now I also need to unequip shit SBs. The RM part is annoying because if I have a character with Pride of the Red Wings I presumably want them to use a sword instead of a shitty knife because the character above them got assigned the last sword for being further up in the party. The only thing optimize is useful for is dailies.

Celes, Agrias, Y'shtola (assuming SS2), Lightning, Yuffie (once she gets her MC2). All the attackers get self healing, you get to use three of the best 5* abilities (Saint Cross, Thief's Revenge and Full Charge) and between those characters, you have a nice mix of utility. Shout for RW obviously.

The numbers don't always tell the whole story. Kuja 2 has 3 qt relics4 if you count kuja :^)to 2 male relics, and 2 of the qt relics are SSB (beatrix and garnet) with the third being eiko's golem flute - all of these are really high quality relics.

I'm not sure if this is the wrong thread to ask this question in, but I was recently trying to install Final Fantasy XI to get into the private server Supernova, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to work. The site that says whether or not the server is down also doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any information on this, or could anyone tell me of a better private server out there? Is it just better to suck it up and reactivate my account at this point if all I want to do is run through the storylines?

Definitely do the retail FFXI if you want to run through storylines. AFAIK no private servers even have all the expansion stories active, and none of them have trust (which actually lets you play through them solo)
