About SL for pvp:
I really think we need to do some math and decide on one fast before someone else does. It needs to be at a level where "VIT END max, min str dex" builds are somewhat even with the "40 vit end str dex" builds.
I honestly think that 120 was a little low in DS1. The vit gouge build that me and Lucifer ran was just better than any non-min-stats build.

bloodborne's pvp is in a much better state than ds3's; everything that isn't a duel is 2/3v1 R1 spam, roll spam unpunishable-chugfest, and the duels are the same except they're 1v1 and there's no chugging (usually)

Blessed weapon adds like 20 AR. It's supposed to be great because it gives the blessed effect which makes it do more damage to like two enemy times and grants you very very slow regeneration.
It really is useless. There is no situation where it would be better to cast blessed over Lightning Blade. Lightning Blade does more damage to the point it outdoes Blessed Weapon's AR bonus against certain foes. You also only get it after reaching upper Lothric so you will NEVER use it against skeletons unless you go back later.
It really seems like it should be an early miracle and the first one you unlock. It's just a shitty little thing that you should be casting because you have nothing better.
So does ng+ change the game in any way?

There is a certain point where "invest all of your stats in vit and end and just use a flaming sword" is roughtly equal to the "invest in str/dex to deal more damage but with less health and end" build.
In DS1, with 120SL the max vit gouge build was just better than the scaling build. More SL to spend would fix this, and give the scaling weapon build more damage, while making the vit gouge build not much more powerful at all.

The flow of time is convoluted in Lothricdran, anon.
The Untended Graves and the Dark Firelink Shrine can all be access via bonfire teleportation, and are different variations on the Firelink Shrine at different points in time.
Basically, when you kill Gundyr at the Untended Graves, you're the fucking reason he's pinned to the ground with a coiled sword in the beginning of the game.

Actually Untended Graves is just firelink in the present. The one you are at is a recreation by Ludleth for the purpose of linking the flame. That whole Gundyr bullshit is non-sense.
He was beaten a long time ago and became a Scabbard. You read that on Champion Gundyrs Armor. Which is the past tense as in he was already beaten and became a Scabbard and the sword was removed. You find it at the Firelink in Untended Graves as a sword shard.

Why are there all these spells in the game if they don't actually damage enemies, take too long to cast, the projectiles are too slow, they miss enemies because they don't home, their effects are meaningless, they require lots of stat investment, cost mana to cast, need upgraded catalysts, and cost FP to cast?
Why does using a single spell have 10 restrictions when I can do more damage with a single R1 of a Straight Sword?
I used Lifehunt Scythe on an enemy with 30 Faith and an upgraded A-Scaling Talisman. In the case when the enemy didn't immediately hit first and interrupt me which literally every single fucking enemy in this game does, it did barely ANY damage.
So
WHY is it in the game?
This flashy fucking thing you need stats for does nothing. This isn't just a bad from a balance perspective, it's bad from a fucking cosmetic perspective. You bring out a fucking ghostly scythe and it doesn't actually hurt enemies at all? Why did you get somebody to make a flashy animation and then just shit on his work by having it make no tangible impact in the game? Why at no point in the entire development cycle did anyone sit down and tell the developers "uh guys, magic doesn't actually fucking do anything do any enemy at any point and has no purpose"
Why were these damage calculations shipped to retail. It's four weeks since release, this game has recieved a balance patch, and yet this clearly gigantic, MASSIVE issue has not been resolved.
Also WHY do Greatswords do barely any more damage than straight swords? Why was this game shipped with these numbers. Who greenlit this? This is a fucking bermuda triangle mystery. WHO allowed this?

lifehunt scythe is a Hex. Hexes require an Hex catalyst and scale with FAI+INT. you should have used sunless talisman or caitha's chime on a FAI+INT hybrid build
Gwyn was one million times better than cinder. Cinder will only ever be a reference. A bland, meaningless masturbation of past significance. Gywn was the most powerful bossfight in game history and knowing they couldn't top it, they just made gwyn 2 but with a wacky form shifting 1st half and none of the tragedy

In the previous souls games you could generally rely on magic doing decent damage at a base level, the problems stemmed from the fact their damage scaled absurdly high.
In Dark Souls 3, every spell feels like you're using a throwing knife. It's bizarre. You level up your stats and you're still throwing flashy firebombs and shiny throwing knifes at people. You keep expecting their damage to reach a good level and it just never happens. Because, in a regular NG scenario, you are using a quarter for your FP bar to take off 1/5th of an enemy's healthbar but there are 20 of those enemies in an area.
Oh, and since every enemy has gigantic, quick, flashy gap closing gigantic AoE attacks they can use from halfway across the stage, they will already be in your face before you fire off a single spell. Past a certain point in the game, there are barely any enemies that won't catch up to you and be ready to instantly kill you in a 7-hit combo (of which 3 attacks are enough to be lethal) before you get a single soul arrow off.
Any close range magic has a massively long windup, which is a big issue when normal weapons are free and hit faster, and they also hit harder. Wrath of Gods for example is literally impossible to cast by the game's own rules of combat, in no scenario will you ever use this on a group of enemies because if a single one of them attacks you once, the spell will be cancelled.
Somebody designed this spell and balanced it with specific damage and cast times in mind, but then they put it in a game where there is not a single situation where it will be useful, ever. At all. At any point. The reasoning behind situational spells is that you can actually use them eventually.
If you do cast it, it does damage so pathetic it DOESN'T MATCH THE SPELL. This is the main problem with magic, they are weak and pathetic which doesn't match their visuals, which breaks immersion.

It's the same as in other games.
Poison is worthless because poison's damage is meaningless and you can't inflict it immediately, whilst losing damage/scaling on your weapon.
Bleed never builds up fast enough to be a threat. You lose damage/scaling on your weapon to get it. If your enemy actually takes naked hits then the fact you bleed them out doesn't matter since you could have done the same thing with another infusion and they take the damage immediately. Some weapons already do bleed damage and have enough to inflict it in a regular combo on PvE enemies.
In the scenario that Poison or Bleed were ever a threat or effective, players would just cure it with consumables.
Most enemies die too quickly to care about status and bosses are immune most of the time.
Basically you could buff Poison and Bleed in about 8 different ways and it would still continue to be laughably inferior, and thus why they're in the game at all is a real mystery.

I just finished the game for the first time. I played the whole game using a pure knightquality build, no spells, miracles or anything. I wore the fugitive knight armor, and kept the starting longsword from start to finish, ending up with a +10 refined longsword.

the way to make a good bleed build is to use carthus rouge and hollow infusion. hollow infusion gives +5 LCK if you're hollow so you can get +10 between main and offhand. hollow infusion adds LCK scaling but does not remove existing scaling, so the best way is to go 40 DEX + 30 LUCK, get the remaining 10 LUCK from hollow infusion, and use a dex bleed weapon like manikin claws or especially, especially warden twinblades

Offensive spells are absolute dogshit bad in PvE, and only slightly less so in PvP. If you go faith, you'll only do so for the heal and Lightning/Darkmoon blade buffs. Maybe Oath or Deep Protection, but those are very minor.

Well, I did. Everything else seemed either too slow or too weak. My longsword allowed me to spam normal attacks enough to kill most enemies in one flurry of hits when emptying my full stamina bar on them.

Dark has worse textures, framerate, and level design than Demon's. You can definitely notice Miyazaki's absence when you play DS2 and while the bosses/world design/story is better in Dark 1, Dark 2 was much more enjoyable for me. Can we talk about straight swords in PvP? There is no reason for them to be so fucking strong. I've fought a lot of games with the Gotthard Twin Swords, until I switched over to try something new. But in a lot of the matches I've been in, people have been using the twin swords, or even worse, the Dark Sword.
One hit by the Dark Sword, buffed up or not, opens you up to R1 spam, or at least two-three hits, which for me at 36 VIG (SL120), its somehow 2/3rd my HP because of what I wear.
I hope FROM has plans to balance a lot of weapons in the future. In the mean time, anyone have any idea how to counter people who use weapons like the aforementioned?

Profaned Greatsword UGS user here, the Dark Sword is a bitch, especially because of phantom hits that WILL open you up for a second hit. The biggest advice I have is forcing them to use up all their stamina in R1 hits and then going on the offensive. For me I like baiting them out with 2HR1s that allow me to get another hit in with hyperarmor usually even if it gets me a hit in return. The issue after is punishing before they heal, which can be difficult and downright impossible if they have phantoms and spam rolls.

God no, King's UGS is a STR weapon with S-scaling fully upgraded. You lose out on more overall damage making it split damage even with Flame Weapon since Flame Weapon is the worst buff and Fire damage is the worst elemental damage type in general.

No, infusing it with anything will ruin its main positive, which is a pure physical Strike UGS with great damage. Though FUGS makes it almost irrelevant for that purpose. If you don't have enough levels in STR to two-hand it already you might as well just use another weapon that will be better for infusion that doesn't have great innate scaling.

You can use Flame Weapon if you have the spare attunement slots, but if you have resins just use Charcoal Pine Resin instead. If I remember right resins are better damage wise on weapons, and Flame Weapon is a far worse flat buff compared to the resin. Compare the damage yourself on it to see.
