Look at shield skill. There are 3 possibilities parry, weapon skill, or shield bash. If you don't like one you can get a weapon skill kite shield from a chest in high wall area very early game with 100 physical defence. If you like parry you can buy a kite shield with parry same stats very early.

So you're using the starting pyromancer armor and hand axe then? Because doing no damage and dying in 2 hits seems like a bad idea. I'll have something like 17 vit by level 120, just enough for my armor and weapons of choice. Knight is better for pure int or faith because it doesn't waste points in the other stat, keeping the low luck, and giving you a great base with vig/vit/end to work off of.

Knight starts with a grand total of 1 more Vig than the pyromancer. and you only need 1 more dex to use a straight sword.
Hell even getting your vig, str, dex and End costs less for you than it costs the knight to get pyromancer equivelant int/faith and attunement.
I think you're confusing Vig (Health) and Vit (Equip load)

You're entitled to your opinion here, but the numbers don't add up. I am intending to be a spellsword, which might skew numbers a bit.
with 13 str and 18 dex for weapon use, I can hit 40 Int by level 80 with respectable numbers in vigor, vitality, endurance, and atunement. Less for the last one than a pure caster, but that's alright. Knight is better than pyromancer for such a build at every level, and by extension a faithsword build would also function best as a knight.
If you're intending to use spells for every possible thing, pyromancer is probably better. But magic is so fucked currently that unless you're dedicating yourself 110% to a particular magic school, you're better off going spellsword for weapon buffs and utility spells.

You know, I hate to say, but I don't think I like this game.
The super fast and aggressive enemies mesh terribly with the speed of your character, magic and miracles are trash until near the end of the game, weapon balancing is in the shiter, quest's are obtuse as fuck, random enemies are harder than most bosses, poise only working on the super heavy weapons is just awful, and all this stupid fucking senseless fanservice...
The level design, enemy design, bosses, the whole tone, it does some things very right, but there's so much bullshit in the actual game part that it just doesn't hold up.
The game is exceptional. Really is. I don't give a fuck about PvP which I haven't tried yet but the world is immense, the game is challenging, the bosses are impressive, there are plenty of 'oh shit' moments and its damn addictive.
It's the best in the series and anyone who says otherwise is blinded by nostalgia or jealousy.
And yes, I have played Bloodborne to completion multiple times including DLC. The DLC does match the quality of DS3 I will admit.

So my brother's been testing hollow infusions and he came across something weird. Basically, he found went 40 Dex and 30 luck and for used the Hollow Cathus Shotel and claws, they both have C and below DEX scaling at the start and when hollowed, provide more scaling from Dex and Luck combined. It might be a weird form of quality build for certain under-utilised weapons since you can get +10 free luck at max hollow.

Am I the only person just really confused by this game? I've played DeS, DkS1/2, and BB (not OH), and I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing in DkS3. I do no damage (40 Dex, sharp infused weapons), enemies poise tank me so I can't by hyper aggressive, but shields are trash and are useless after one blocked attack. Gone is the countering/punishment system of every game before, but we don't even get the aggressive and fast paced style of BB. I'm just lost. If I block an attack, I get guard broken and I'm dead. If I try to poise tank, I get stunlocked because poise doesn't exist. If I try to stunlock an enemy, I get stunlocked because poise does exist for them.
I just like so many things about this game, but I don't even know what's going on with this combat.

armor is pointless, you get the same flat damage reduction from rags as a full set of havels armor.
What you get from armor is a small % decrease of the damage AFTER the flat reduction has been applied.
Heavy armor being pointless isn't a meme, it's a fact.
So are all the Souls of Cinder the ashes that other Ashen Ones have brought back to their throne? Despite the time travel bullshit? And then those ashen ones linked the flame?

The soul of cinder is the flame using it's own fuel to try and fight you off, because the ashen one is not the savior of the world, you are the bringer of the apocalypse whether you try to link the fire or snuff it out.
This is why you just slump over when you try to reingnite it, your quest was a lie.
