I like to use empty settlements like little hobo camps for myself like that when traveling so I have a place nearby to stay when passing through.

Bethesda cut an entire second main quest from Oblivion dealing with the player becoming a duke/duchess of Colvania and rising the ranks up to a position in the Elder Counsel because they felt it detracted from the Oblivion crisis events

I'd think if they wanted them to be totally ded they'd allow you to bury them, or make it a fade to black scene in front of the pod with "Bury Nora" or something on it, and a grave marker somewhere near Sanctuary.
Then every time you go "activate" the headstone you'll hear your SS say "Goodbye, hun..." like they do with Shaun's headstone in the Institute ending. So I personally think Far Harbor will either have a fully revived spouse using SCIENCE or synth. Far Harbor is based on a place called Bar Harbor that researched heavily into human regeneration, and did some weird shit with eels and starfishes, to see if humans could grow back tissue / limbs like a Starfish.
And they also probably have a cure for Cancer down there somewhere, which would be pretty fucked if you sided with institute until the end, only to find the cure after Father dies.

It also feels like a massive waste of possible tearjerker elements, like, say, taking Synth Shaun to see his "mom." Just so you could let him know what she looked like. Possibly then he'd ask questions, and you could either lie or tell the truth, about how she died, who killed her, etc. This could have been a particularly touching way of starting "The replacement" quest had it not been cut as well, with Synth Shaun begging you to make mom alive again with Institute technology.
I'd be a little bummed if he's not involved in any way in a DLC where she comes back to life, but there's potentially people that blew him to smithereens...

For me, its a 50/50 between Sigma trooper and star paladin.
I voted S.Paladin however because while Enclave troops are prime humans, its that very mutation which ought to give a standard waster the edge.
If it was untrained prime human v untrained waster, I'd go for the untrained prime human because they're much more likely to be well fed, looked after and so on. However, a star paladin isn't going to be starving, weak or diseased. They're going to be well looked after with all of the best technology the Brotherhood can get to keep them alive and fit. They'll have less fancy training than the Enclave and slightly worse equipment, but they make up for it with better real world training. They're battle proven. They KNOW they can take a hit and shit all over their opponents.

Just because Nora was pregnant and most of the storyboarding drawn from the POV of Nate doesn't mean she couldn't have been a player character. It can sort of imply that you could have selected control of the character later (maybe at the point where they're absconding with the child) or even just before. Imagine the switchover.
EIther you're Nate watching these scientists perform invasive surgery on Nora to remove Shaun or you get to experience it from first person.
Movies where you're presented with one character you're certain is a protagonist only to be replaced with a hero that wasn't the focus up until then do exist, and would have been an interesting way to approach the game.
It would have also made Nora feel a titch more like the bride from Kill Bill.
