Unityfag here, how should i go about loading chunks in a 2d game? ive got tons of gameobjects with animations and scripts attached and im trying to optimize it but im encountering a few errors

my first idea was have a trigger around the player twice as big as the screen so when a player is anywhere near an object it becomes active but this will put all my animations out of sync

my second idea is have several trigger throughout the level and when the player touches them all objects in this trigger are active

Has anyone got a better idea how to go about this? i may have up to 300 of the same gameobject per level witht he same scripts and animations, is there a better way to go about this? maybe have all the animations copy a master animator, what about the scripts attached themself, just having them only be active when onscreen seems like the best option so far

Added the ability to switch the backround texture. I'm thinking of adding collectibles you can spend to unlock new backgrounds.
Just to give the player some sense of progression or something.

Of course the buttons are placeholders, I'll make a separate screen for these things.

I'm rewriting the game, so here's question:

Do you think having 3 save slots was any good or would just one be enough? If there was only one, I could do stuff like changing the menu background as you progress in game and have option to get into game faster and all. This would make managing stuff easier, but not sure if it's worth sacrificing 2 extra slots. Opinions?

Another question: Do you think naming your save file is stupid in game where you cant change MC's name? Castlevania had this so I thought it was good idea. The project has gone through too many changes and has became huge mess. At time I started working on it, I was lots worse than I'm now. The project also went through GM7 to GM:S conversion and I have changed lots of things though time and It's just unmanageable now. It just became very disgusting and hard for me to work on it and I feel it's faster to rewrite it properly than fight with that mess. I never intended to add this many shit in it.

This is also not only game I've been working on. I've never really shared my other stuff, except gifs of my oldest prototype of the game and then when I started working on this. I've also been working on top-down stealth shooter game that's inspired by Armor Hunter Mellowlink and Mode 7 racing game (I posted that here too. I abandoned it soon after I got the whole Mode7 work because it was too fucking pain in the ass to work with and never got those "skyboxes" work properly).

"Boost is death" raped me, I needed 38 tries to beat it. Still, don't change the level, it has a nice difficulty and I only noticed half-way through that I shouldn't boost at all (stupid aren't I?).

i also use google drive, it's automatic so I don't need to do anything.
there's no versioning but I have game maker make the auto-backups (GM's feature) on a separate HDD.

If I screw something up royally it's good enough to have the 16 backups.

That seems like it would be quite an annoyance.

Luckily its barely coded into anything right now so it would be easy to remove, though I'd get feedback first though, since unlike Darkest Dungeon, party members are permanent and unique from eachother.

Use HSB for your color cycling instead of RGB.
Test it out in Photoshop, or Unity color picker, I think both of them have HSV colors, which is similar. You can pick out a nice tone and slide the H to a new random tone.
Also, have you considered more than 1 color for the palette? You could make the background and the walls two complimentary tones, like orange and blue.

You don´t have to be smart or productive to benefit from versioning, it just means that you can delete shit instead of commenting it out in case you need it later. It helps keep things clean and organized.

Backing up to three different local drives seems like a lot of wasted effort though, Either you trust gdrive and it's unnecessary to be so redundant or you don't and you still don't have any reliable off-site backups in case your computer gets stolen or your house burns down or anything like that.

But again with the position awareness, I could easily just make overpowered attacks have cooldowns or push characters forwards/backwards in line so that they can no longer use said attack until moved back to the position the attack can be used in.

trade/economic dominance is massive... they not only had the money to keep all their imported soldiers fed, they had enough money to entice over other africans to fight for them. its not just that they made some fancy technology it's that they could actually maintain a supply line of it to a far away land and have so much of it that any losses they took were minimal.
and yeah they opportunely wedged themselves into internal conflicts, it's easier to divide and conquer where theres already fault lines.
