You could do that
The torch up is higher at higher skill rank so make sure to upgrade your stuff.
Your only problem is that you'll have to use inspiring cry like crazy because you have NOTHING to hit back ranks so you're going to be ABSOLUTELY STRESSED.

I'm in a very similar spot, though I find it varies between 2 and 3 available quests. I think 11/28 of mine are still level 4.

After some more playtesting for my Heishi custom class, I’ve fixed a few things!
newest version:

changes:
-added move skill (whoops!)
-bounding dragon can now be used from 4,3 instead of 4, now inflicts (very) minor bleed
-koan now working as advertised (minor partywide stress heal and healing received buff)
to-do/needs:
-get draw stance to actually move him back (I’ll likely nab this from the antiquarian update, since my own tinkering hasn’t accomplished anything so far)
-get camping skills working (currently they are in his localization file, but don’t appear ingame–I’m likely forgetting a file for this, as I am dumb)
-art!
-sound effects! (needs more slashy sounds, needs sounds at all for some skills, unsure how to use or take sounds from other classes, if that’s possible)
thoughts:
-considering nerfing sweeping crane a bit, since I feel it’s sort of like hellion’s iron swan but more flexible (it moves you back, but you can target 3,4). I’ll keep playing around with it.
-thinking of lowering the stacking heal buff a bit (to 10/12/15/17/20%, i think), since it adds up very quickly if he’s being used for stress healing currently.
(to aniki: I'll be starting on the bannerman and hunter .info files later today if free time allows)

they can trigger their quirk, but it wont do anything if they do. you have to actually use the torch on it fro the shambler fight to the best of my knowledge (and cursory look at the wiki).

actually the picture is just on-topic for the feel i'm going for (totally-not-samurai-or-chinese-general). currently i'm using MaA's assets as placeholders for sprites/animations
as for the differences: for one, the heishi is very mobile (pretty much every attack sans the vanilla one moves him one direction or another), is better against eldritch stuff, and generally lacks status or shuffling, barring a minor bleed on one move.
it's closer to a more combat-oriented jester.
