Let's play a game. You have to pick a loadout among the following ones, the era is 1939/1940, you can pick your front, but you're stuck with a biplane of your choice. Your tasks will include but won't be limited to: bomber interception, bomber escort, attacks on armored trains, airfield raids, anti shipping, anti tank, CAS.

4 wing + 2 nose mounted rifle caliber machineguns, 400 rounds per gun, 900RPM, you can change the convergence settings however you like, and you get a gunsnake that is almost as accurate as a sight with radar assist. Bomb rack that can load up to 150 kg of ordnance, no bombing sight other than a reticle that shows where your craft's nose is pointing at.

2 nose mounted medium calibre autocannons/heavy machineguns, 150 rounds per gun, 400RPM. You can change the convergence setting to your liking. Gyroscopic sight with adjustable wingspan. Bomb rack that can load up to 100 kg to ordnance, bombsight with adjustable speed, altitude and dive angle.

A single 50mm low velocity cannon, 10 rounds, 20RPM. Standard reflector sight, plus a single nose mounted machinegun equipped with tracers that has ballistic properties roughly similar to the main gun. No bombs.

>>
>>137686031
It's supposed to be an hypothetical lightweight low velocity short barrel gun meant to fire only HE/HEI/HEAT shells. I guess that I could change the rules so that set 1 and 2 are single engine planes, the former with no armor whatsoever a la Zero, the latter with some resemblance of armor but nothing too fancy, and set 3 is something like the 110.

LN is planning on multiseat and also supposedly writing an AI RIO that is much smarter than anything in the game right now and which can communicate with you and be a proper effective RIO. I'm not sure if both the player and AI RIO will be available at the first beta launch or if just one or the other will come first, but by the final release you'll have both options (if we live long enough to see final release).

And which ones are active/semi active/IR, etc.? Are they directly analogous to the AIM-120, AIM9, etc.?

I haven't played any slavshit, just did literally 3 minutes in the editor setting up my radar controls, but I didn't see a way for multi-target tracking like you can do with the F-15, although I probably missed something.

Should I just stick with R-73 for close range IR, and R-27ET for longer range engagements until I get gud so I'm not confusing myself? (I still don't know if the R-27 is IR, Semi-active or active. It seems the R-27's variants are all completely different in that regard despite having the same overall designation.)
>>
>>137704237
R-60 is very old, has a very short range, and a tiny warhead. Rear aspect OR with very limited all aspect capability at spitting range. Unless you're in a MiG-21,the

R-73 is arguably the best dogfight missile in the game with its high off boresight tech and crazy maneuverability. Seems to be more susceptible to CMs than Sidewinder though. All aspect IR.

R-27ER is your standard medium range SARH missile. It technically had a longer range and flies faster than the AMRAAM, but in practice that's not something you can really exploit. There's not much to say about it, really.

R-27ET is an all aspect IR missile with longer range than all other IR missiles. Easy to spoof if the enemy sees it coming, but a great missile for sneak attacks.

R-77 is an active radar missile that only the MiG-29S can fire and is utter shit. Unbelievably short range for a radar guided missile and bleeds energy faster than a Snakeye. If I ever use these, I tend to use them like extended range R-73s.
>>
>>137704237
23(E)T: IR guided, mid range. Can actually kill shit.
23(E)R: semi active radar guided, trash. It has two uses: 1. increasing your drag (that's why some Flanker drivers just don't bother with them/jettison them if they can't change the loadout), 2. scaring off bluefor green shitter shitters because they get a radar warning when you fire it at them.
77: active radar guide but has a really fucking long semi active phase. It's shit, but it can take F-15 cunts off guard if they assume it's a 23ER.
73: IR guided, short range, godly.
60(M): IR guided, short range, kind of shitty.

Vikhr: for killing tanks.
Kh25, I think? Laser beam riding guide, it's shit but the warhead is okay I guess.
>>
>>137705247
So in other words Russians BVR capability is dogshit compared to BLUFOR and you should just try to avoid it at all costs and try to rely on close-in IR missiles?
>>
>>137705336
No

All BVR capability in DCS is dogshit, BVR doesn't even really exist.

If you know how to use them ERs can get you kills, in a straight up fight, but you need to know how to use them, also they are mostly there to get you into ET range.
>>
>>137705336
More or less.
>>
>>137705247
I forgot, none of the IR missiles give radar warnings when you fire them. However you do need to use the radar for IFF.
>>
>>137705165
On the Su-27/MiG-29S:

The R-27R/ER are your medium range SARH missiles analogous to the AIM-7M, the R is a bit worse, the ER a bit better. Being SARH they go for chaff more or less 100% of the time.

The R-27T/ET have no western analogue in DCS, they're medium range IR guided fire and forget missiles. They have similar kinematic ranges to the 27R/ER but you may need to be a bit closer than Rmax to get Launch Authorisation.

The ARH R-77 is MiG-29S only and is analogous to the AIM-120B, however it goes pitbull very late meaning in most situations it should be treated more like a SARH missile that is considerably more accurate.

R-73 is the ultimate IR dogfight missile, it turns like a beast and if it loses sight of the target will keep turning in its last known direction until it reacquires it again. This is how it performs the 180 turns you see in webms.
>>
>>137705494
When you lock with EOS and turn on the radar the enemy wont get a radar warning.
>>
>>137705583
They don't? I thought that they did get a radar warning, but only for an instant. Good to know if it's true.
>>
>>137705583
>>137705656
I think that bug was fixed ages ago desu.
>>
>>137705656
Nope they don't, if you don't believe me and can't test it, turn it on and off for a split second they 100% don't get a warning then, but only if you have them locked with EOS.

Sadly because it's actually some sort of glitch that's actually realistic it effects the opposite as well.

If you lock someone on radar, then turn on EOS and turn off the radar, so that you are only tracking them with EOS, they'll continue getting a lock tone until you relock purely with EOS.
>>
>>137705583
I'm not sure that's true. If you flash the radar quickly on and off then you can IFF faster than the RWR will be able to tell it's been spiked, but staying locked I'm pretty sure will give a lock warning.
>>
>>137705707
It's not a bug doe.

The radar has an IFF interrogator, it doesn't need to turn on the radar to check IFF.

Do you guys use English cockpits or original language cockpits? I feel like a pussy using English for the MiG-21 and I know it well enough by now that I could probably switch to Russian, but I tried that and it gave me Russian tooltips too which is just too much. There has to be a way to have Russian with English tooltips, right? I swear that's how it was originally.

And for the Mirage I at first tried using a modded English cockpit but it turns out that I can handle the original French fine, it's not too hard to understand anyway and all you have to know is that A is off, M is on, G is left, and D is right.
>>
>>137729965
I use english cockpit just because I get pissed off at the fact that even the tool tips for the MiG-21 in native cockpit are in fucking russian. If they weren't I'd just leave it in native language, because every time I go back to FC3 russian planes I dread the fucking english Bitching Betty.

>>
>>137729965
I just spent 4 years learning Russian, so I might as well use it.

It pisses me off that not all the tooltips in native cockpit are in Russian. The Sapphire's buttons are in English.
>>
The new caucasus map cannot come soon enough. The quality of the ground textures really aren't sufficient for helicopter ops when you are always going to be so close and intimate with the ground.
>>
>>137741374
>new caucasus map

What? I thought there were no plans to update it, besides little things like importing the tree collision shit from NTTR, etc.

They'd need to entirely re-do it if they want it to not look garbage from anywhere below 10km. It's not just the textures (and FLIR textures), it's the polygon count as well. The massive mountain range in the middle of the map is barely more than just pyramids. Can't even use Combined Arms on the Caucasus map because there are just random vertical portions around the map where it should be a gradual incline, making it impossible to traverse in ground vehicles a lot of the time.
>>
>>137742165
>look garbage from anywhere below 10km.

For whoever was asking in the teamspeak yesterday about the Huey.

Not including the miscellaneous stuff like radios, lights, etc., it's 12 steps to get the thing airbourne, + 1 button flick to clear the last warning light (IFF, not required to get into the air).

2 minutes from loading in to being airbourne and fully operational, and literally half of that time is just holding the starter button until the RPMs get to the correct amount.

Does the BMS update go inside the 4.33 folder? It keeps on trying to make its own during the set up process.

>>
>>137757947
This update makes a new game installation and requires a full, legitimate copy of Falcon 4.0 to work.
>>
>>137759348
I should have expected such incompetence. At least it's only a 1gb download.

Only just set up my controls the other day and didn't even get a chance to play it properly, hopefully they transfer over.

No don't uninstall, it's an update. But it requires a complete falcon 4 install.

My torrent install worked perfectly.

The download is ~500MBish but is it really only 600MB when installed
programs like games usually unpack >double the download size

>>137764851
What's that?
>>
>>137765128
I checked the size of the folder I have it installed in.
>>
>>137764851
>>137765128
Searched up, read description. this might just be the thing I need.
but does it work for Win10?
>>
>>137765128
It's a program that sorts folder by size and shows exactly how much space EVERYTHING takes. It also shows how much space a determinate file extension takes, and has a fuckton more features. Thanks to it I freed up something like 20GB in 3 minutes, and I know exactly in which order I should watch and delete shit I downloaded years ago and I never got to.
>>
Last night we simulated what would happen if you put my ass in the cockpit of an F-16 on a strike mission against a North Korean airbase.

Having limited knowledge of what the fuck I was doing, the result was poor. Upon arriving to the target, I was unable to drop my ordinance on command, and instead dropped it some fucking how I don't know.

The target was missed, and I was killed in action by something while I was alt tabbed trying to figure out why I'm so garbage.

Also taxied into the grass at start of mission.

10/10 would BMS ops again.
>>
>>137769157
I wish I was there. shame, I was busy last night
>>
>binds worked perfectly in 4.33
>in 4.33 u1 the pedals are now the primary input device according to BMS and nothing will change it

I'm fucking platinum mad right now. I've tried everything and not a single fucking thing works. No matter what I do or what ID# I set the controllers to, BMS thinks my rudder pedals are the primary device, which completely fucks all my keybinds up.
>>
>>137771218
You can use the Excel sheet to "easily" re-assign the DX IDs that the keybinds use. It's the only way I know how to do it aside from rebinding everything, and once you figure out how to use it, it's a fairly easy thing to do.
>>
>>137771218
Happen to me in warthunder before. It thinks my keypad thumb stick as joystick and changed throttles to joysticks, and pedals to throttles. Messed everything up, pretty much pushed me passed the point of finally quitting that Slav bias BS of a game
>>
BMS ops WHEN
>>
>>137771465
>>137771712
I fixed it.

Apparently in Update 1 they added a new text file called "DeviceSorting" in User\Config that makes it so the controllers are always in the "correct" positions. Problem is that it detected them in the wrong order when I installed and nothing I was doing was changing the order.

The more you know I guess.
>>
>>137772809
If you're in North America I might be able to run some ops tonight if you're interested.
>>
>>137772850

R-27ER - Good range, absolutley garbage guidance
R-27T - Super garbage
R-27ET - This makes F15 babies cry

i turned on my air brakes with B right before touching down and after touchdown i held down on the wheel brakes (w).

Throttle to idle, pop the drag chute, don't land so insanely fast.

Landing flaps will allow you to land at much slower speeds.

Yeah but takeoff you are trying to get *into* the air and you have a lot more fuel and external stores loaded that necessitate that speed.

you either didn't use the brakes or did not land perfectly :^) (a bit too fast). you don't really need to use the chute but not all landings are going to be perfect.

are there any tricks to spotting enemy ground units from far away? i have view distance at max but i can't spot things until they have that colored UI dot on them... and even then i might not spot it well enough at first glance.

it takes me a long time to get the lock on place using the ATGM TV thing so i only have time to get off one missile per run.
>>
>>137822667
Put model enlargement on small.

and bear in mind planes more often than not are not finding their own targets, they will have a waypoint over a strike target or will be talked on by a JTAC.
>>
>>137822667
before the autism army arrives and shittalks you for using labels...

Everything you describe is intentional, seeing targets with the naked eye from miles away just isn't possible. The labels even makes attacking them almost trivial. Basically the answer is practice, practice, practice.

Usually you have a rough idea where your targets are by the mission breifing/waypoints. Then you use the electro optical system with its good zoom to scan for them while approaching.

Since you're still playing with labels it's even easier, just line up the targeting piper on the hud with the label, use the TV to make a lock, then shoot. It is possible but not really intended to fire more than 1 vikhr per run in.

Your HUD will give you a dynamic launch zone. On the left hand side an arrow will tick down a range ladder. When it is between the 2 thick blocks 'LA' will appear and you are in the correct parameters for a shot.

No, these are situations that don't really happen in 'real' ops anyway do I wouldn't get used to mindless 104th style A2G.

In a real mission you tend to know where the target will be, the rough locations of threats and you don't tend to respawn all that much either.
>>
this DCS game seems really stupid imo, no trolling.

it's just:
>spend 30 minutes watching tutorials to learn what magic button combos to press to turn the damn plane on
>set waypoint 1 in ENR mode
>press the autopilot button
>alt tab or go afk and check back 10 minutes later
>zoom in and stare at a monitor screen even though i'm already staring at a monitor screen
>fly directly at the thing you want to blow up until you're close enough to get shot down by it
>try to pull away after blowing it up and get shot down in the process

I have no idea if Su-25T has such things but in A-10C you can type in coordinates as a waypoint and slew sensors to that. That's the most efficient way I know of to do A2G using the F10 map.

>>137836008

Not a native speaker, but still, "air force" doesn't sound right in French. It would become "force de l'air". They don't have a concept of just sticking 2 words together without anything. After all, Franks are not filthy Germanic barbarians but the purest descendants of the Roman empire. :^)

If you honestly think that and aren't just shitposting, DCS might not be for you.

The best I can tell you is that the Su-25T isn't the most engaging or fleshed out plane in DCS. I didnt really get into DCS until I got into something that could do air to air.
>>
>>137837740
SU-25t is superior planefu
>>
>>137836008
Ok, I will pick it apart.
>spend 30 minutes watching tutorials to learn what magic button combos to press to turn the damn plane on
Su-25T doesn't have a clickable cockpit, also that is overly exaggerated, you can do with like 5 button presses.
>alt tab or go afk and check back 10 minutes later
What is time acceleration, alternatively pick a not shitty training mission to get the basics.

>fly directly at the thing you want to blow up until you're close enough to get shot down by it
Doing it wroooong. Use longer range missiles to take out dangerous targets at standoff range. Granted the Su-25T is shit at that since the fucking optical system is in the nose pointing forward, but you should still keep more range until you have identified a good target.

Holy fuck a new module needs to come out already so I'm not tempted to mod the game and want to kill myself at how poorly DCS is coded.

I wanted to add new weapons like SDBs and AGM-123s (think rocket powered GBU-12s), but I have to figure out how ED managed to code the mess that is DCS. That said, I am making slow progress.

Modding without any documentation is suffering.

Can it be 3-4 weeks from now already?

I feel like I've gotten kind of gud with Mirage and MiG-21 and want it to be Blue Flag time.

I don't have WW2shit so I can't play Case Blue. I'm glad they reneged on the 6-day time limit on events from now on, though. I need my 2 weeks of insanity.

Also I learnt myself how to inair refuel tonight. There's no reason I'd ever have to do this in DCS, is there?

So, how will ED react to this, is there a chance that they'll add it to the game?
>>
>>137926160
Maybe. Worse comes to worse it'll end up with being a very polished mod.
>>
>>137926160
As far as I've heard they're supportive of it. It's getting released originally as a free mod with a standard (read fairly basic) flight model like the non-upgraded FC3 planes but with a clickable cockpit, but if there's enough interest they might try and get it done as an official module, which would require more time and effort I imagine.

What do you guys think the chances are that Leatherneck would consider churning out a MiG-23 of some variant after the Tomcat/Viggen are out?

That is if they can pay the bumtastic licensing fees from the most jewish company.

Engineering projects are not the same as artistic expressions and are not afforded the same protections.

The name falls under branding and is therefore a contentious issue they can avoid by simply not mentioning 'skyhawk'.

As well as the fact that none of this is an issue if it's freeware.

They said they were at least interested in doing it because it would be relatively easy due to being similar to the MiG-21, but they said that years ago. In a year or two when they're ready to start a new plane who knows what their plans might have changed to.

Likely, they've already said the avionics would share 80% of their code with the 21bis.

MiG-23ML pls LN, Soviet unicorn variant MLD can get tae fuk. If we get that one it'll be stuck in the vacuum between 3rd and 4th gen, better to get the ML that can fight a future F-4E on even terms.

So everyday I get an email from some Tech sergeant in Intel giving an update about world events and issues pertaining to air force/air power around the world. It always has a quiz question asking you to ID some military aircraft.

Today it was an SU47, and the dude used a screenshot of an Ace Combat game instead of a photo.

So, today an Ace Combat screen shot was sent from one government computer to a bunch of others. Kek.

How much better is the X52 pro compared to the base model? Only one I can find in Australia under $200AUD is second hand off ebay.

Anything better in that price range?
>>
>>138008745
It's only marginally better. Supposedly the sensors are a bit more accurate, but I'm not sure if that's true. Functionally they're identical.

>Anything better in that price range?
No, not really. The HOTAS market is shit. The only thing that's sort of in that price range is the CH Fighterstick + Throttle (which are good enough to end up as an endgame HOTAS), but I don't remember how much those cost, and you'll have to live without a rudder unless you buy pedals.

As much as an X-55 and the 256 potentiometers they have are shit.

So isn't the Viggen supposed to have the ground radar and stuff which LN needs to wait on ED to implement? How is it supposed to come out soon if ED is probably nowhere near implementing it themselves in the F/A-18C much less opening it up to the third party devs. Or am I mixing up the Viggen with the Harrier which was canceled because of the ground radar?

Also does LN have to wait on ED's new carrier stuff for the F-14? I know they're making their own Forrestal carrier, but do they need ED to make the code for the crew and aircraft elevators and all that other shit?

LN are doing their own ground mapping radar the same way the had their own radar system for the Mig-21.

IIRC Razbam is doing the AV-8B Night Attack harrier first, and then the Gr7/9[?]. And when they get the ground radar template/system from ED, they'll start working on shit which has it.

Give me ideas for some relatively simple but fun ops to design for myself. I want to play some comfy singleplayer DCS. Options are F-86, MiG-21, Mirage, or Ka-50. Maybe A-10C too, but it's too complicated to be comfy.

How good would I have to be to not get told to fuck off in a dcs op with you guys? I've barely used any fixed wings, basically just been fucking around with the huey, without weapons. What fighter would you recommend for a beginner to learn?

How do you communicate, teamspeak/similar, or ingame radios?
>>
>>138047141
MIG-21 is literally the most "simple" fighter to learn due to primitive systems. It's a good fighter for learning basics, but you probably won't be killing many F-15s online with it due to aforementioned primitive systems.

MiG-21 is lots of fun to fly too, though. For the time being the only other "fighter" ingame is that's at full DCS fidelity is the Mirage, and that's still in beta.

If you learn one of the FC3 fighters, you've basically learned all of them. Flight models have varying quirks, but they work basically the same way and the binds you wind up setting will probably be identical.
>>
>>138047141
>How good would I have to be to not get told to fuck off in a dcs op with you guys?
I don't think it's humanly possible to be so bad that people don't want to play with you. Being a micspamming shitter on the other hand...

>What fighter would you recommend for a beginner to learn?
Depends on what you want out of it. We play more or less every plane, just not always at the same time.

The current ops are usually either:
>Guardians of the Caucasus campaign: MiG-21
>Tyrannik's relaxed ops: More or less every plane + a few modded flyables.
>Custard's autismo ops: Mirage + A-10A&C

>How do you communicate?
For now, Teamspeak with whisper lists to talk between flights as its the simplest. Personally I'm open to using a radio mod at some point but that's a contentious issue.
>>
>>138047141

If Reiza support wasn't so shit and they actually gave me a GSC Steam key on time I would've messed around with Automobilista, but as it is now I I missed my shot at GSC Redux and have no interest in buying the game again.

I've been playing Raceroom in the meantime. As much as I think it's business model is 300% shit, the game does continually get better at a glacial pace. However I am disheartened after hearing that interview they had where it shows that the fate of R3E is subject to the whims of Raceroom Pro customers and Raceroom Entertainment. Funny enough they've already confirmed that they're not modeling the Meteor, Brimstone, Marte ER, or Storm Shadow. ASRAAM is a maybe.

Basically the only shit you get is the same last gen stuff as the Hornet has. I guess VEAO really doesn't want to bother themselves with making their own weapons.
