You should go for it, anon. It might seem like a long time but you'll see the effects dramatically even before you start your first raw VN. You'll suddenly find yourself understanding entire sentences when watching anime as you learn more and more. It a revolutionary experience.

You got supremely ripped off. You can learn the language to VN-reading levels by spending virtually nothing. Japanese is one of the easiest languages to self-teach at least to a basic level.
If anybody's thinking of "learning kanji" with heisig, don't do it. It's useless unless you want to write kanji. I learned > 1000 of it from that and when I read, the keywords/heisig recognition doesn't even play any part in recognizing the word. You just read kanji as their readings depending on the word. The heisig keyword plays no part at all. Just read with a text hooker after doing vocabulary and eventually you learn vocabulary/kanji/kanji readings along the way by reading them and seeing them repeated throughout the text.

Building a solid grammar base is key, since the text hooker will often parse things wrongly. I attempted to read Hoshimemo - Eternal Heart a week after beginning Japanese, thinking that the text hooker would carry me through it, but obviously I didn't understand shit since I had only done the first part of Tae Kim. After about two months of Anki and completing Tae Kim, I began reading EH again a couple days ago. I'm able to comprehend what they're saying in EH, although my reading speed is still far slower than the speed the characters talk at. I'm also really reliant on the texthooker because of all the supernatural stuff.
If you have Core 2k and Tae Kim completed, you'll be fine with moege. Read something like Koirizo's fandisc or Eternal Heart if you liked either of the original VNs andwant to see the main heroines get married, if you read something like Hanahira you'll probably be bored out of your mind and end up quitting.

The problem I have with this statement is that it implies that stories being good is just a matter of personal preference, when that's clearly not the case. There's a pretty clear difference in actual craft between Twilight and The Great Gatsby, regardless of how much you like either of them.

I'm not sure I agree with you on that. Maybe for the first few seasons, but it's losing steam. Not to mention universal acclaim is basically meaningless as a barometer of quality when the other shows I mentioned have got the same or more amount of critical acclaim. The only advantage GOT has over them is a budget and a low barrier of entry.
I'll be honest that I don't actually know much about the dude beyond memes, but claiming that GOT is the best show on tv seems to me to be indicative of a lack of taste, which is really what we're discussing here. There's a difference between reading something and appreciating something.

And honestly, TV has very little "good" shows compared to books, mostly because it's a very young medium. There's probably less than 10 contenders for the best TV show, whereas there's hundreds of books that have their own claim to that title for different reasons. GoT, BB and whatnot are all of the same relative quality, it's stupid to say that one is 'objectively' better than the other or whatever since they all have zero literary merit besides pure entertainment, and different people are entertained in different ways. Saying that one has bad taste because he likes one of those "10 shows" more than the other is silly.
And again, taste in TV has no correlation to taste in books. I don't know about you but I sure as well wouldn't want to read some random thriller like Breaking Bad as a book.

Not really. It's a matter of analyzing how they convey their ideas and which one does it better within the medium. For example Breaking Bad does some pretty dope things with cinematography that are rarely seen in television, it has a cast full of fucking phenomenal performances and nails the tragic elements of the story, while Game of Thrones has pretty basic cinematography, average performances and a meandering story that's slowly unvavelling.

Real talk. After replaying Ikikoi I realise how good the H scenes are in it. They are just long enough to be enjoyable but not overly lengthy to overstay their welcome. The art is excellent and the angles aren't obnoxious. There is also the variety of positions and acts.
