The problem is that the usual “Digimon invade the real world” or “the real world and the digital world begin to merge” plot points can only be resolved either by closing the gate again, forever (like Tamers), or by ending up with a world where Digimon are widely known and common in the real world, which would essentially turn the setting into Pokémon.
