Ok, this is probably the most ridiculous otabbing spriggan I have ever rolled. I'm literally just a better Vinestalker at this point, and had one of the easiest Spider rune in my life. I thought the early game was gonna fuck me over from lack of arrows (SpHu with a bow, I was theorycrafting some ways to take advantage of spriggan speed + ranged combat and it's weird that spriggans have such a good bow apt so I went with it) but RNG paid off in the end

No matter what, every unique can and will one shot you unless you haste/slow/run/retreat. You have no idea how much damage the black knight does, the orc officer is basically still in the babbymode realm. The knight does 200 damage per slash.

Anyone else remember the glory days of Crawl, back in 6.5 or so, when rolling Mountain Dwarf Fighter was the only option that didn't earn you massive respect for a successful run? Shit's gotten so easy now I had to stop playing; and for every new item/enemy/whatever that gets added the devteam strips 3 things out in return, then removes 1 more mechanic to make it even MORE streamlined and simple to appease the speedrunners.

It was glorious. Shit was so hard. Every time I got even up to level 13 or so it felt like a glorious victory.
Now I win and it's like "meh, that wasn't too hard". Even doing ziggurats or wandering Pan (oh wait, they just removed Pan, didn't they, can't have anything that those speedrunners won't use) is hardly life-threatening.
And the current array of options for player characters might be unique compared to other RLs, but a lot of them just feel wierd for the sake of being wierd.

Nah, I took a break from Crawl for at least a year, probably close to two, having never managed to get the orb because [refuses to read spoilers].
Decided to download it again a year or so ago and my second run got me the orb despite being totally out of practice. And then I kept getting it, regularly and consistently. It wasn't the same game that would kick my ass with a grin: most of the dick moves were gone, dying from starvation was something you'd have to purposefully be trying to accomplish, even as a spriggan, and the enemies were easier with a more gradual difficulty curve instead of the sudden difficulty spikes that would catch a newbie off guard which you'd find at certain points in earlier versions.

Where is the danger in a regular 3 rune DCSS game now? I've only been playing for a week after a 2 year break, and everything seems to have been fucking babby-proofed.

Anon pls. Modern Sigmund is easy to shut down with just about any wand, potion, or scroll you might have. Gone are the days of desperately burning a wand dry against him and watching him inexorably advance to your doom.

If you consistently have people asking the devs to quit making the game easier over the course of a lengthy period of time, complaining that the game has gotten less difficult with recent versions, that would suggest that there might indeed be a lessening in the difficulty of the game. It's not just me and another few anons here, a lot of people have seen this and dislike it.

I finally threw in the towel when I saw the 0.16 changelog (believe it was that one, maybe I'm thinking of the wrong version). Among other things, the switch to everything being done as square-only rather than circular (for spells and other such things) really stuck in my craw as their rationale when met with a lot of flak about it was "well it makes the game simpler!" As well, it was continuing a trend I'd been following for many months of removal, simplification, and lowering the difficulty. At a certain point that has already been reached, it feels dishonest to call the game Dungeon Crawl.
Crawl was the only RL I was playing at the time, and I actually popped in the thread to see about finding one that was similar to the old Crawl: more difficulty, much more complexity.
Is One Way Heroics still okay to discuss here, or is it too casual for the likes of /rlg/?

Won't argue with you that Mummies are a harder race than basically anything else you could choose that's not gimping yourself with a strange playstyle.
However, I firmly believe that with thoughtful playing based on what's been given to you by the time you find an altar or your preferred god, MuMo is not a terribly hard choice. The two * in piety can be very strong depending on your god of choice, and there's nothing stopping you from using that rare, but possible, badass whip/dagger of electrocution you found instead of your crumbling, bandaged fists as a MuMo.
On DDA, if I stick a solar panel on a vehicle tile that has a roof on it, will the solar panel still charge like normal? Or will the panel be "under' the roof tile, preventing it from working? I don't have enough panels to do it yet, but I'm wondering if I'm able to stick solar panels all over the top of the RV i've fixed up.
And somewhat related, how do funnels work on vehicles? Is it like a funnel on the ground where it has to be installed above a water tank to transfer rainwater into it, or is it like a solar panel and I can just stick as many I want wherever I want and they just fill the tank? And like my initial question, I'd like to know if funnels work with roof tiles or if the roof blocks it.

Vampires are great for foodless in the mid-lategame, but earlygame is awful.

No but seriously all versions are good. I've won the troll archmage in the latest prerelease that was available at the time, which was about 65 or something. It's way easier in pre5 because they didn't nerf the herbs, but that's kinda cheesing the game. I think I approve of this new method.
