No, soft cap means when the experience rate slows way the fuck down. There are several soft caps in this game.
Contribution points soft cap at 300.
Skill points soft cap at 300
Energy caps at the point of all gathered knowledge and all mob knowledge at S+ rank
Energy cap will only occur when they stop releasing content.
Class level soft cap is 50 then another soft cap at 55 then again at 57, at 57 the grind becomes fuck you tier as you lose nearly 30 hours of work if you die.
Tradeskills cap at Guru20
Training skills breath, life, strength cap at 30.
Skill points technically only cap out when you run out of skills to get. There will be a secondary skill tree come awakening weapons depending on classes.
Class level and contribution do not cap, just gets harder. On a technical stand point contribution technically caps when you can invest in every single node and rent every single contribution item.

Content scaling is objectively bad, even under the correct circumstances of "wanting to level with friends but too underleveled". The only -decent- MMORPG with level scaling is FFXIV and it's bad even in that.
This is just a case of poor planning. If you plan on leveling with friends, make an alt to level on your own while you have a character dedicated to group play.
And I hope you didn't spend $30 without knowing this game is a grindfest of 'shitty mobs', because that's essentially what the ENTIRE leveling process is.

This game is a grindfest. If you're doing nothing but quests without grinding you're always going to find yourself below the recommended levels for quests, and being two levels below the mobs you're trying to kill is fucking annoying.

It' not just leveling I have issues with.
The entire game is designed as a singleplayer experience.
You need to gather materials and craft items all by yourself if you don't want to end up spending billions on final products people post on market.
And to do that, you need to level professions as you go because of energy requirements, can't go "max level first, powerlevel professions after".

With no level cap it makes people feel behind if they don't keep up in levels. Instead of getting to, lets say a hard cap of 50 then focusing on life skills/gear/whatever. It makes it a lot harder for players to catch up to higher levels. And this game heavily favors no-lifers much more then other mmos. I'm enjoying it so far but I really do dislike the leveling system.

Those monsters are complete bullshit, anyway. As a Valkyrie they melt me if they touch me, you need to attack them but they almost incessantly strike back because they always aggro in groups of three, and shield throw does pitiful damage to them.
Thankfully SPAMMING SoJ combo keeps them down, even the violent ones, for some reason. The problem at that point are the ranged fucks like the wizards and agile ones. If a fighter staggers me I'm pretty much dead, anyway, even with 150 dp. The other ridiculous thing is that I wonder how other classes deal with them, unless they all have a similar big damage combo like SoJ they can spam to keep them down.

As a Tamer I Trample to inflict Bound on them all, and the dual Waves will generally knock them down, too. Trembling stuns most of them for a while, and Void Lightning will deal damage to everything while keeping me defensive so they don't often do anything to me while I'm using it. Surging Tide forces Heilang to stagger everything in front of him which helps a lot. But a surprise Giant Mane popping up behind me for a back attack drops most of my HP which is where the scare came from
