You gotta use some inventory glitch with item manager on Bungie.net. Never managed to get it work myself, but supposedly you can unequip everything from guns and armor to ships and sparrows. If you unequip your primary though, you get a spooky 0 light level auto rifle called Mashal-A0 that you can't inspect. So technically you can't unequip your primary once you first pick up the Khvostov in the first mission.
