Dominions is a fantasy turn-based strategy game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.
It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a strategy game.

Actual Snakes, do you have pearls you could trade for Air or Earth gems?
I'm interested in a bulk sale. Death gems are cool too ofc.
>>137058190
Pearls are something I have none of and want to buy.
I have some death gems though.

So your people have dildos on the tips of their tails? And you go out into battle like that?
No wonder nobody but monkeys respects you.

You own Magus? How do you have no pearls?
How many death gems? I have a lot of earth gems, and yes amounts of air gems (but if we're trading 200+, I might need to check)
Are we letting this thread die after 10 posts?
>>137058609
Magus' pearl income is actually pretty small. It's main benefit appears to be infinite sages.
As for death gems, I have about.. 30.

>Dwarf Fortress players still hating elves
I legitimately don't get this meme. I love elves in that game. Who else brings me breeding pairs of War Eagles? Sure they get pissy about wood, but I don't want to trade my wood anyway. That shit gets turned into charcoal and beds and the elves get all the excess stone out of my fort. It's a very good relationship.

The big change is put the cap's Death income at 5/turn. You get extra 1/turn sites in your provinces that have your dominion and very low population, though the first 5 have a much higher threshold so you can get up to 10/turn pretty quickly. Forts are also more expensive.
>>137075267
gays aren't noble in the first place, they deserve to be hanged just like traps.
>>137073043
You don't get the blessings right off the bat though, right? Some of it has to be left to Empowerment or your domain gets fucked.
>>137075474
This doesn't really solve the 'tribless ermor' problem. Slightly less lictors doesn't make them easier to counter or anything. It doesn't make things easier for their neighbours, or mitigate the bot/utterdark/foul air trollbuild either.
Why not lower their cap gem income, make lictors shitter, and make their mages cheaper to summon? Cheaper mages, domsummoned priests, shitter lictors, and you have something like a playable nation instead of something that's either crap or overpowered.
Is there any nation more powerful than Ulm? And I'm not talking about EA steel maiden Ulm, or even MA pikemen and the morningstar infantry with shield Ulm. No, I'm talking about LA Ulm with its hordes of shit mages and masses of Pikeneers and Rangers.
>>137075904
>empowering to nine
Jesus fuck what the hell is wrong with your spending?
Also, path changes after game start don't change bless. If you want a double or triple bless, you have to make a sacrifice or two.
>>137075998

>>137075904
Blessings don't change with empowerment.
You need a minimum of 5 dominion or so to survive, 6-7 is considered a safe number.
Most heavy bless nations pick imprisoned pretenders with 9 in 2 magic paths for bless purposes.Read the fucking manual, newfriend cutie.
>>137075517
Well, the thing about gays is they aren't underage b& virgins shitposting about lynching people, so they have that going for them.
Dumbass question that I'm pretty sure I know the answer to, but which is pretty important for me to get right: There is no way for an enemy player to do a script that will consistently target my commander(s) if they are not archers, further forward than some troops, further backwards than other troops, no larger than my other troops, and not standing in the same place as another unit, right?
>>137075953
This rant has been responded to enough times that I'm frankly not even sure why I should bother.

Like W9B9 or 6 months of multiplayer
>>137075953
How is going from 15 gems down to 5 only slightly less gems?
>>137076332
Probably not, unless they've got a lot more hp or lower resistances, in which case mages might preferentially target them. Also, targeting fliers is a thing. Although, target orders can end up being more like suggestions than specific commands a lot of the time.
>>137076332
One of the factors in the (spell) targeting AI is hp density, so if your commanders are particularly beefy, long-range, high-precision stuff might target them. Sorry, but I don't know the specifics.
Something similar might also happen if your commanders have an elemental vulnerability (while the troops have none).
Also, if your commander is the only "different" one, (i.e. undead leading living troops, normal leading mindless, etc.)
>>137076332
If they're mindless and your troops are not, that's one way they can be targetted.
>>137076332
>>137077005
Forgot to say, obviously if they have S there's always magic duel.
>>137077017
Oops, got that the wrong way around.
If you have a non-mindless commander with mindless troops, there are ways to target the commander specifically.

>>137082058
No him, but I'd really like to know how you're supposed to dompush.
Many nations don't really have an option outside of just building more temples, and doing it that way takes forever to actually get anywhere.
>>137082569
Temples, blood saccing, march some priests up the other guy's ass, stealth preaching, temple raiding, stealth and stone idols, spam juggernauts, etc. There's an assload of ways.
>>137076814
Given an average ermor expansion/domspread.
>>137082847
Half those involve marching units into c'tissian dominion, which doesn't fix the issue in >>137081724.
Blood Saccing isn't widely available (but is great if you have it), and Juggernauts are expensive and require construction 9 plus deep astral access.
How long does it take to Call your god back from the dead? I've got quite a few H2s working on it but I'm wondering how long before I can put them back to work.
Also while researching this I found out they permanently lose one level from each path which is brutal but I guess it's my fault for getting him killed in the first place.
>>137087196
You need the equivalent of 50 H1 priests raising for a turn to get your god back, so 5 H2 priests would bring it back in 5 turns. Ur only has to spend half the number of priest turns on resurrecting their god which also doesn't lose paths from dying.
>>137087897
There's some random variation involved, so it can take slightly more or less than 50 priest-turns.
>>137085169
Only option that requires sending mages in is preaching down his dominion in captured provinces. And if you preach it down right, meaning promptly and efficiently, the risk of disease is pretty marginal. You're going to lose mages in any war you fight, MA C'tis just claims a few in a different way.
ded
>>137090484
nah I'm just reanimating
>>137090063
Sending in stealthy priests has pretty much the same issues as sending in mages (both are expensive and take fort turns) even if they technically don't have a magic path.
Temple raiding involves sending stuff into their dominion as well. Not necessarily mages, but enemy temples are unlikely to be poorly defended so I'd imagine magic of some kind will be needed.
>You're going to lose mages in any war you fight, MA C'tis just claims a few in a different way.
MA C'tis dominion is on top of losses from actually fighting them. If the dominion was the only issue it'd be easy to deal with.
I wasn't too salty about Japan backdstabbing me when it happened but I am kinda mad now cause it looks like le ebin skellingtons will win.

If the neighbor is super weak, you should just take their land for yourself before anyone else can. Gang bangs are to take down the leader to stop them from winning (and get yourself nice things in the process)
>>137099278
I was attempting to appear both generous and benevolent to my neighbors in order to create a bond of trust, also I'm 90% sure no else has scouted anyone else so their weakness may not be apparent.
So I've played a couple of games now but there's one major thing I don't really understand.
Underwater nations.
Why do they exist? What purpose do they serve? Why would you ever choose one over a land nation? Can they even win games? Just, why?
>>137099506
EA Atlantis is good. MA Pelagia is good. MA R'lyeh is good if Pelagia or Oceania aren't there to rush them and ruin their day.
They're different, and some of them do neat things.
>>137099506
You play UW nations in the hopes that you can grab a sub-par land expansion and then take all the UW provinces at your leisure. Then you remember that amphibious nations, mercenaries, and summons exist and you're sharing the sea with three land nations all of whom will war with you over a plot of kelp and that you can't do anything but raid them if you don't have a land border. And a land border means they'll march across it and kick your ass back into the drink.
Alternatively, people ignore you and you get to vulture and snowball to a position of holy fuck he's big, and then other people's sloppy play lets you win the game.
Really, UW nations suck ass and if you want UW you should play an amphibious nation like LA Atlantis or a UW amphibious nation like (pre nerf) Therodos.
>>137099506
I'm about oh . . . 2 or 3 turns away from winning here.
The advantage to being underwater, in a lot of cases, is having an early unassailable fortress if alone (you often are), and being turning the game into scrub-finder (because you're often adjacent to nearly everyone).
>>137082851
Those sites take a while to start appearing.
In the case of lictors that means it takes a while to properly start production, giving other nations time to get magic and/or gang up on Ermor. Once midgame rolls around they'll have around the same number of lictors but the main complaint about tribless ermor seems to be early, which this fixes.
In the case of BoT it weakens the stupid early BoT. It also makes them dependent on non-cap income so they need to actually defend their lands if they want to keep BoT up.

At first she casts Phoenix Power, it makes her F3, also she has 3 fire gems in her possesion. Then she just casts Flaming Arrows (it needs 1 gem to cast + 1 gem to jump from F3 to F4), so she is spending 2 gems, or the all 3 if she is not scripted to preserve them and she just reducing fatigue from the spell that way.

That's not true, you actually can only spend your level in gems. So for example, you cant reduce fatigue on an N1 casting a 1 gem spell.

There's no hard limit on the spell. You can only use a single gem to boost your level, but you can theoretically use as many as you path-level allows to reduce fatigue. The actual number of gems used to reduce fatigue is decided by the spellcasting AI, though.

>not using a meme name
>>137128579
What the fuck did you totally miss Points Of Light is the name of the dungeons and dragons cosmology (after planescape) and Silvanus and Chauntea are nature gods in Forgotten Realms?
>>137127009
No, you're wrong, reducing fatigue is through the casting at a higher effective level, which you can only spend 1 gem to do. The manual says that how it works and testing shows the same. Try a F3 mage with 3 fire gems casting Fire Elemental.
>>137128579
>Looks like I was the only one who likes giving my pretender a name that could reasonably be on a god.
Where do you think you are?
>>137128982
No, I'm not. Give an E5 mage 5 gems and script him to cast Earthquake.
In your test it didn't work because the spellcasting AI decided the spell wasn't fatiguing enough to use the third gem.
How's this looking for EA Caelum?
FSD is for both lines of summons, while EB for bloodstones (since I'm making this for a Summod game, without them I can't turn 1 RoS).
Scales are tentative.
>>137126190
El Bumpo.
Pls admin.
>>137132069
>5 paths on a 60 points per path chassis
That's not a good idea. Even disregarding your choices of paths and scales - which I won't comment too much on because I haven't played EA Caelum - you could do all that there on a Crone and have 129 points left.
>>137132069
A rainbow would be quite a bit cheaper than that, you're spending a ton of points just on new path costs.
>>137132307
I know, but I despise human rainbows on non-human nations.
ded
>>137132069
I've tried FSD before, I ended up not really getting much out of the astral compared to the death (though pretender was imprisoned, I did manage to sitesearch S fairly early with mercs+indies). I'd advise just dropping it, you can break into S via the D/F summons anyway.
>>137135225
Seconding this, you can't easily get all the site searching done for FSD unless you have an awake pretender. Better to just use FD to pop you into S and the points for better scales and dom.
Also use a damn rainbow already you're just throwing away points on a humanoid nation. Pick some chassis and call it an ascended wingless or some shit like that.
>>137135225
>>137136034
Good points. Thanks.
Awake expander + evil summons
I hope you fags appreciate how fast i ran to get back to home.
Fug you admin.
>>137140113
Did you just design a chaos power 2 Azi to expand and have him summon evil Caelum daevas and more shit with chaos power while taking order 3 dominion?
>>137141571
I like gold. Also, he expands fine in order and the stuff that you're summoning are supermages rather than troops.
>>137140792
If you can submit turn on time you don't need an extension. Running is good for you.
>>137142308
Fug you anon.
Hey Therodos, can I move through you to piss on Mictlan for invading an UW nation with Ichtyids?
>Pangaea attacks the Jews then goes AI next turn
Welp, this was shaping to be an interesting game until 2 major participants went AI.
But R'Lyeh i understand, they attacked Pangaea, got kicked out back into the sea and apparently gave up on trying to be relevant after that.
But what the fuck is wrong with Pan?
>>137144036
Are russians winning? Also, Pangaea attracts degenerates.
>>137144036
Sorry about staling again.
Also if there is a black list, that Pan should be on it.
>>137140113
Does Caelum need an awake expander?
>>137146047
No, it's got mammoths. The awake expander is nice, though, and lets you get enormous
>>137146047
Need, no. They've got flying troops that can capture chokepoints quickly and mammoths that wipe out most indies. But that doesn't mean they can't make good use of an awake expander.
Even if you don't want to get huge (and potentially get everyone's attention), there's an advantage in getting to your 'ideal' size a few turns before everyone else does.
>>137146586
That was my point.
>>137146740
Sure, but I'm not sure it's better than getting, say, a rainbow.
>>137147408
It's like 5-10 more provinces, which is nice.
>>137147408
Well that's one of the cool things about Dominions, I think. There are multiple approaches to most things and which is better depends on a lot of factors.
In some games, getting a bunch of extra provinces early on is more valuable. In others, having better mid- and endgame magic variety is. It's hard to say which is objectively more valuable.
so this game has no real economy management, no building stuff, no policy management, no diplomacy. How is that deep?
A rainbow brings very back-loaded power. Caelum is already pretty great late. An expander makes you stronger sooner
>>137148432
What do you mean there's no diplomacy? The game's meant to be played multiplayer.
>>137148432
Have you tried playing it?
>>137148564
"I declare war on you" is not diplomacy tho
>>137148657
Played about an hour. I liked how the battles work but that's pretty much it, nothing else to do.
>>137148432
>this game has limited width, how can it be deep?
How many games you know with like 3000 units, where you can script every individual mage using 1000 different spells?
Dominions isn't a 4X game where you're constantly balancing every aspect of your empire. It's a wargame, and the focus is entirely on killing your enemies.
>>137148676
If you think that's all that goes into the diplomatic layer of Dominions then... well, you fit in perfectly well on /domg/ at least.
There are no in-game mechanics for diplomacy in Dominions, that is true. But that just makes it more real in my opinion because there is an actual layer of trust and negotiation that has to happen for any agreement to happen. If someone doesn't think those agreements happen then that's why they keep losing their games.
>>137148213
For sure.
>>137148824
SP is utter dogshit, though.
>>137149473
Yeah I would play MP if the pirated version worked, but this game is not worth the price IMO, and I already spent a lot on games this last couple of months. Sorry to hijack the general, this game really isn't for me.
>>137150334
Bait
>>137150334
>this game really isn't for me
That's understandable, it's a pretty niche game and definitely not for everyone.
Though if the price is your main concern, you could just wait for a sale. It goes for 50% off quite regularly, and sometimes even 75%.
Well since some people were interested in a slow game (once scipting sets in 48 hour turns and once turns get overly complex even more), here's a poll to decide the age.

What's a good EA Nation for beginners?
>>137156154
Abysia
>>137156154
Whatever seems fun to you.
Practice a bit in singleplayer with it and jump into multiplayer afterwards.
>>137156659
This, except UW ones and Yomi.
>>137156504
Tried it, utterly failed at expanding.
>>137156659
Is there a nation with useful mages out of the box (no communions/booster items/bloodhunting needed) while having decent frontliners. I enjoyed MA Ulm because you just put troops in line and spam Magma Eruption and you'll be reasonable effective.
>>137157121
Pangea, Atlantis, Vanheim, Abysia itself.
>>137157121
Abysia fails at many things, but expansion should never be one of them. Very few nations have better expansion than Abysia in the EA.
Ofc, Abysia is a blood nation (and you either play it that way or lose), so I wouldn't reccomend it for beginners.
Pangaea is my go to rec for beginners, as recup helps a lot of their early mistakes, and W9 white centaurs are beasts.
Come on, you nigger.
>>137156892
What's wrong with Yomi? I've been checking out potential necromancy factions and their Demon Generals seem amazing.
>>137159261
Their troops are awful.
For necromancy, if you want the whole reanimation-of-lots-of-undead-hordes shtick, go for EA Lanka, MA Sceleria or LA C'tis.
>>137159261
Yomi is a necromancy faction? Did summod add reanimation to them or something?
>>137161159
I think they mean death magic.
>>137159261
>>137159357
Also N9 Jotunheim.
>>137143584
I'll say yes to the southern going channel at the moment but I will need compensation and will need to know how far south you are going via message this turn.
>>137124401
>Karma karma karma chameleon
that is a 10/10 name
>>137144269
I dont really know what i am doing.
So apparently Ur wants the bats to win.
Whoever's on the other side of Ur, feel free to rape him while his armies are busy invading me.
>>137164648
He attacked a province owned by bats as well. So uh . . .
#871, if curious
>>137157121
>Tried it, utterly failed at expanding.
Literally how?
They have one of the choppiest EA regular troops.
>>137165382
I guess him sending a guy to attack me might have been a misclick or something in that case.
It was a bit weird anyway.
>>137158635
Make me, faggot.
>>137165675
Did he send a single commander? If so he might have just been trying to get them killed off.
W9 lanka? Good idea? I can get it and a nice Growth/luck build on a dormant wyrm, or go for a minor bless and an awake expander.
>>137165382
Maybe Ur just wants to fight? Gotta respect that.
Also, friendly T'ien Chi, almost every time I think of an item I want that I can't access myself yet it turns out to require Nature one way or another. Hope you're expanding your manufacturing capacity in the face of this demand! If you have any investment opportunities, please let me know.
oh man I don't even know what I'm doing
>>137165839
Ah, I guess that would be it.
Still, Ur, if you're reading this give me a heads-up next time you do something like that or I'll just get paranoid over nothing.
>>137166026
Take earth on your pretender, is my advice. Because otherwise breaking into earth is a huge pita.
And you MUST break into earth for late game
>>137166114
I am somewhat capable of forging nature items. Any that need N2 (or even N3 with some time) and construction 4 I can make.
>>137166026
W is not so good on Lanka's big blood thugs, but it's great on Palashankas.
W/E or N/E are both great blesses for Lanka.
>>137166161
Did you really think one Enkidu Chief was a serious attack force? It was a misclick BTW.
