A general for all strategic, operational, and tactical war games that can't generate enough traffic to sustain their own generals. ARMA need not apply.

Wrong.

The tank is equipped with TC remote NSVT, all T-72s, even prototypes, did not feature this.

Also early T-72 did not have T-64A turret, albeit it had one very similar. The "new" turret was required due the autoloader of the T-64A not being adopted.

Only the T-80 original production model had a copy of the T-64A turret but also lacked remote NSVT.

Regarding the AARs. My last mission of mini-campaign isn't over yet, here's the situation so far.

In the south enemy tried rushing his armor through my road block, didn't work as well, he even started bypassing it in the south right through the river. Remnants of my armored forces are gathered around the southern mission objective, but they'll be all dead as this thread once enemy Leo 2A4 turns its frontal armor in their direction.

In the middle I've transfered BMP-2 platoon and recon elements with ATGMs from the northern side (which is ignored by the enemy) and preparing to fight yet another Leo 2A4 platoon. Once again, I can rely on side and rear hits only, so this is pretty much a game of chance.

Next turn started fairly good - our old friend Leutnant Rossbach has yet another enemy kill, this time it's Leo 2A4.
In the middle another Leo 2A4 is caught into crossfire and got it's side projection penetrated twice by T-72, resulting in a kill.
And finally in th middle RPG-7V team gets it's shit together and manages to hit another Leo 2A4 from 200 meters right in its shiny metal butt.

>>136421993
Someone even plays campaigns, I tried once, playing with Russian airborne company against Japan and got my shit handled to me by Type 90s and reservists spam.

Also, I'd love to code some shit like FPRS or WinSPMBT but in real time, like Armored Brigade, but on a higher level of command and with more strict OOBs

And enemy effectively counters my artillery with his FASCAM. Luckly only two tubes are lost, others are about to reposition.

>>136422772
Basically something like FCRS, but in real time?

As for campaign - I've only managed to win one battle out of four so far, others were a draw. And all of them resulted in mutual destruction, so its pretty tough out here too.

Enemy is approaching mission objective in what looks like a combined arms force. For some weird reason Gepards are leading the way. Well, happend to me in Eugene's Wargame too.

Meanwhile I pop a couple of 2A4 in the north and lose a T-55, which I decided to reposition a bit closer, to enemy Milan

Leutnant Rossbach scores his tenth kill, it was Leopard 2A4. Me and enemy are in opposite situations now - I've lost almost all my infantry, bar mech company HQ and some ATGM and AAA. And he's out of armor, while his infantry finally starts creeping at my mission objectives. Unfortunately for me he has some Milan II which could be a disaster for me.

Woo-hoo, it's finally over and looks like are in for a major victory! Also it's 5th time both me and enemy have very little to fight with in the end. This time my artillery was a game-saver - not sure I'd stand my ground if those waves of enemy Jagers and PzGrens made it to my positions in time and in full numbers

Nope, just a marginal victory. And the campaign is finally over, all in all it was quite interesting to play. Fun fact - the only modern enemy MBT I've knocked out with frontal penetration was a M1A1 in one of the first mission. If this resembles real life, then Cold war gone hot would be a world of hurt for NVA, CSLA and Wojsko Polskie. In SPMBT only Soviets possess tank ammunition that can somewhat reliably penetrate contemporary enemy MBTs. And even then tons of ATGMs they have on pretty much anything are good only against older MBTs or IFVs

The NSVT is just rotated forwards that's all (duh), it's not remote controlled. If you look well enough you'd see flaps on hull sides, no T-64 model ever had them. As for the turret, I forgot to write "T-64A styled turret", yea it wasn't straight from T-64A.

the T-72 NSVT's magazine is different from the T-64, (50 rnds vs. 150 rnds)
the T-72 NSVT has a collimator sight just above it, which the T-64 lacks
the T-64 has the TC IR always aligned immediately left of the NSVT

T-64bm is probably the best cost effective medium tank as of now, better than the k1 and mexas.
T-72bu is a requirement for superheavy spearhead tactics as it will only be stopped by a m1a2, atgm plane, lucky or plentiful tow-2, longbow and infantry nests such as woods and cities.
Best (and only) option for a fighter is a pair of veteran mig-25pd.

But in any case, you should play men of war instead as it is a massively better game.
>>
>>136473887
T-64BM is the current meta medium tank for USSR
T-72BU is one of the higher end tanks that can compete with higher tier Abrams

Ignore the memeposters. Having a naval tab is fine, you'll regret it if you'll accidentally join a land/naval game.
Just a tip, the minimum should be:
>2 Jianghu
>3 Hujian

Jianghu is mainly for coastal bombardment and sector capturing, Hujian is the real deal and you will never want to lose them. If possible, bring your FOB as close as possible to the coast, otherwise just hope one of your teammates has a supply ship.

The other 3 slots can be whatever you want. I personally suggest naval infantry, so as USSR, it would be:

>BTR-** Morskaya Pekhota
>BTR-** Spetznaz GRU
>Afghanskii
Afghanskii for immediate air support on landing and as a cheap (20+5) transport for land CV. Just dump one next to a spare CV and ship it around.

For strategy Wargame titles there's not that much under the 'real time' category other than Graviteam Tactics: Mius front and maybe Combat Mission which is really better played its turn-based mode. There's a lot of hex titles like Flashpoint Campaigns but they are all turn-based.

For Arma there are no public 'milsim servers', just a lot of groups that have events every week or two. I'd recommend Broma and Murshun which are 4chan affiliated groups which have no barriers to entry and if after trying them they aren't realistic enough you can move on to other groups.

Making a game from scratch is a huge time sink. Honestly its better to check what engines are available and see if there's one that fits your needs; the result might be less bloated or less prone to bugs. If you're trying to make something super niche you might be out of luck though.

FPS, there's Project Reality, which is a free standalone mod of BF2. It's got a shitload of content from factions, weapons, maps and so on. There's even Nam maps, and Falklands is coming soon. There's also a WWII beta.

Squad is the same idea, except it's early access, and you need to buy it. There's no content for it at the moment, so skip it for now.

Insurgency is okay, it's more of a tac-shooter. Lots of mods for it.

RTS there's Graviteam Tactics and Combat Mission, both have a fairly steep learning curve. If you want something simpler, Wargame and Men of War exist. There's plenty of hexshit to find. Older games like WinSPMBT an Close Combat are also really good. If you're looking for RTS, check the welcome games in the OP.

Maps are standart 100x80 size.

That >>136437765 guys is quite right. Use 'z'-key indirect fire, it doesn't require full LOS, for instance it can fire through smoke and trees. MG-teams are great at it.

Other than that - it really depends on the situation. In any way try to suppress enemy artillery first (if they're on-map, you can spot them by smoked zones in the enemy rear, if they're offmap it's more complicated - you need to have an offmap arty yourself, if it's not ordered to fire it will do counter-battery at the enemy firing arty. I don't remember full details, check the manual.

If you have TIs you can abuse smoke and be able to fire at enemy units that hasn't got it. Smoke generally can be a game changer here - you could smoke out a part of enemy defence and concentrate your fire on the rest so you could pick out defenders one by one. Remember that tank platoon leaders usually have some smoke shell. And another thing - usually you'd like to manually turn off automatic AI smoke screening when your armor comes under fire, it usually rather annoying during attack since you could lose LOS at unwanted time. It's done inside unit's stats view, select your unit and press spacebar.

Also, don't forget to set Target Reference Points - you'll be able to fire arty much quicker if have these. It's done at artillery page during the setup phase.

And a more 'gamey' advice.
When it comes to random attack/assault missions AI's deployment of troops is ofter rather silly - it generally fails to cover whole map height, so you can find a safe passage to enemy rear with your scouts and exploit it. When you cap some mission objectives AI generally tries to recapture them, so it's entirely possible that you'll be the one defending after that. And it becomes much easier then.

Some points that I could come up with quickly.

How are victories calculated in Steel Panthers?
I just wone with 5k points and the enemy had 300
I lost about 160 men and 3 tanks and he lost ten times that, but somehow its only a marignal victory

So i've been jerking around a little bit with GTOS just to see the differences from GTMF and i think the interface and graphic is actually better on the older title for some reason.
It just seems much more polished, the only things i don't like so far is that the unit status bar is cut in two at the bottom of the screen (instead of the vertical left side bar) and that the squads icons have no indicator to show if the units has viable AT weaponry or smoke.
And the enviroment appears to be more credible, Mius has that strange gloomy atmosphere with summer-like grass paired and cloudy weather that just don't cut it.
Also, is there a way to remove the horrible blue boxes surrounding units when selected in squad name mode?

Not even just airspammer, I use almost exclusively napalm. I think it's offset by the fact I use only airborne infantry.

The term 'Gavin' is some bullshit fabricated by popular culture. No body in an actual armed force calls it that.

MSTA-S is based on T-80 chassis, with T-72 engine.

Your MoD picked a good IFV to spend dem oil bux on. If you have to import for IFVs, the BMP-3 is the way to go.
