I get a negative perk and then when I come back to the estate, it's locked in. Is this a bug? Is there some kind of lock-in quota? What kind of shit is this? I don't need to be spending 5000 gold each time I come back from a quest.

Son, unless you're getting Compulsive every fucking time, you're wasting your money.

>All heroes level 5 to 6
>Didn't do the bosses
You literally brought this upon yourself with shitty planning. The Apprentice bosses can be done at resolve level 0 and are trivial at 2, while the Veteran ones can be done reasonably at level 2 and aren't too hard at 3/4.
If you didn't get every apprentice and veteran boss done before you had a single guy turn level 5, then you planned to fail.

Cull out the members with max manias.
Be patient until you get an antique, run a party with her with HWM / M@A Guard.
Trade your excess heirlooms for the ones you need to upgrade your members.Look up some faqs regarding bosses, there's no shame in help in this game.
>>136404538
Unless you have a casual grinding mod in this game, no. Your high level heroes will say their too good for the dungeon, and it makes sense because it makes the game way too easy if that was the case.
>>136404707
>Your high level heroes will say their too good for the dungeon
oh, that's make sense, will take it into consideration
Would it be more interesting for blight/bleed crits increase the dot damage rather than duration. Enemies usually don't last more than two turns anyhow, or it's ones that you aren't in a rush for to nuke down
>>136404707
>Run Auntie in a party with someone else to Guard
If Auntie forces someone to guard her, and then you guard that person, do you end up with a 3 character guard chain?
>>136405659
No.
Auntie forced HWM to guard her, and if M@A guards HWM, it just goes to M@A. It's better that HWM guards auntie because of the riposte and dodge buffs though.

>>136418229
Because you don't get to hold onto your Lovecraftian estate without cats, or at least hounds to identify the Mi-Go
>>136418141
If we are thinking to the same pic, then I think it's the boost to morale to the males heroes caused by 1) the fact the Plague Doctor is in fact a girl, 2) not only she's a girl but she's also hot and 3) she's stripping.
I mean, the crusader probably never saw breasts this close before.

Oh. I never understood what the "balls of fog" meant, I always assumed it was either a very stinky smell or that the body temperature of a person was really high. In some cases it means they're breathing but those are obvious since it comes out of the mouth or near the face, rather than surrounding the body.
So it is a morale boost then, it's a good picture. Even with the pits hair and belly button pubes it all looked really on character and blends in.

>(Aside from a Mark party with an Arbalest - Hound Master - Bounty Hunter - Hellion quartet.)
>>136439916
I think on apprentice anything may work.
Not sure if there are much options on veteran and champion.
You need to bring heroes who can do a guaranteed fuseman kill, he'll be most likely in rank 3+4.
Also since there can be a lot of AoE damage, Vestals partyheal is pretty neat here.
Just don't bring an antiquarian.
>>136439916
I like to run redundant aoe for him, so like, graverobber/vestal/highway bro/leper, do double dAgger, grapeshot, and hew to clear out the extra bad guys, seems to work so far (though you sometimes have to end up single targeting the fuseman if he gets in r4 or if he isn't taking enough damage)
Let me share with you the terrible wonders I have come to know...

A-town a/k/a Atlanta. *tips fitted cap*
Doing champ dungeons is a blast, its like playing the game for the first time again. All these crits and dodges, holy light how stressful (and fun).
>>136458409
>tfw only one Apprentice boss mission left

>tfw nobody died but all came out super-stressed

>>136460043
Hope you are prepared forthe terrible Veteran Necromancer.
>>136462489
>tfw that was the first Veteran boss I got in the game
>tfw I almost went against it with mostly LVL2 heroes
I mean he supposed to be the easiest of all, isn't he? Either way, I really should start doing Veteran runs on the regular.
>>136463334
Yep. And you really should, Veteran is where the true Dankest Dungeon begins.
Why is she so based /dadg/? I find myself using her in every single fucking team. Is there any better healer alternative? Am I just shit?
Post your fave set up back to front.
Plague Doc, Highwayman, Helion, Leper
Man, it always happens.
>Vestal gets dropped to zero hp
She has pretty good deathblow resistance, should be fine.
>Killed on first hit while at death's blow.
Damn it game.
>>136467414
On that note. Which dungeon you guys think a level 0 vestal will have the best chance to survive in a veteran dungeon?
The party members I intend to take are Hellion, Highwayman, Vestal, and Antiqurian.
>>136466012
Occultist on average has a higher single target heal, but it's super inconsistent. Vestal is good for AoE reliable healing.
>>136468918
ruins if you kill spearmen fast
cove otherwise but level 0 vestal won't be enough to outheal the snabeti snab
>>136469523
Are there parties I can run without healers that one get rekt?
>>136470137
you can do level 0 runs without a healer just fine
short veteran runs too
>>136470137
You can use stuns and off healers like crusaders, plaguefus, arbalests/etc.
> doing long cove run

> check her buffs
> remember i buffed her with curious incantation (+50% stress resist) just the camp ago for whatever reason
> probably because i had 1 camping point left
> skill costs 1 camping point so why not
I'm such a fucking idiot sometimes holy shit, damn right I'm mad
>>136462489
necromancer sucks balls on all difficulties
veteran swine is when it gets brutal
> have +40% virtue chance from trinkets
> hero still gets afflicted
Holy shit, anyone knows the base chance for getting virtuous?
>>136475469
i dont mean to shitpost, but why would you go on a quest fully expecting to get stressed to afliction levels?
>>136475947
You can get +100 stress from single curios, aiming for virtuous heroes if there's a tough fight ahead.
>>136475947
Some people like to buff hero virtue, and then try to get that hero stressed out as quick as possible by reading books, smashing bas reliefs, etc.
Seems pretty risky for me, but I guess it'd be good if you have a crusader or jester on the team. Some of them have campfire skills that heal extra stress on an afflicted hero, but that's still risky because an afflicted hero might refuse the stress heal, wasting previous camp points.
>>136475947
Cheesing by bringing +virtuous trinkets and Irrepressible, if pulled off correctly, essentially means a run you can't lose. You don't lose virtues even if you get 100 stress, and the buffs they give make it next to impossible anyways.
Is there a team that can reliably do each of the 4 areas at champion w/o getting their shit rekt?
Current lineup is Occ > GR > HM > BH, most battles I don't have the damage output to take out the enemy back row before shit gets real
>>136476360
PD-Occ-HM-Hel
Stun or kill the back row with PD and Hellion, have HM spam Guard Dog on Hellion. As long as there are two enemies left, there's no penalty for stalling, and you take almost no damage thanks to dog man. Use the time to heal with PD and Occ.
>>136475469
Base virtue chance is 25%.
Or, at least, it's the best estimate available based on sample size for going virtuous, the fact that you can still go virtuous with -virtue% items equipped and Ennui lowering the chance by 25%.
>>136476213
>>136476235
>>136476236
ooh alright then, shame the good quirks are so random, and locking them is only worth it on level >3 heroes
>>136476360
Give the occultist tentacle grab, and have him grab the 3rd guy. Then have the bounty hunter use a stun bomb on the 4th guy. Assuming the attacks connect and they don't resist the stun/move, you have a 2/3 chance of getting those backrow guys in the front row.
Alternatively, you can dump +damage trinkets and quirks on the GR, put her in the 4th rank, and have her lunge at the 3rd rank enemy. If the attack kills the 3rd guy, you can have the occultist use tentacle grab on the other back row guy instead.
Antiquarian runs are so good
>>136477010
how does one do them ? have the 3 of them spam guard me on 1 of them, and use the stab ??
>>136477010
4 antiquarian runs are even better!
>>136477123
Have two of them in the back row and each guarded by a highway man and a man at arms with riposte active.
>>136477129
do enemies drop more antiques when you have multiple antiquarians
>>136477746
One antique per antiquarian from fights (not for curios, though). Gold also stacks for 500 more per antiquarian.
So with 4 antiquarians you get 4 antiques per fight and gold stacks to 3500.
>>136439916
I usually run Arba+Vestal+Grave+Hellion
But I've seen luck with Vestal+Plague+Grave+Hellion
why does nobody have eyes
>>136478008
so you basically drop everything but the small coins, the antiques and money from your inventory with a 4 AQ run ?
>>136476912
>>136476764
Ty. While I'm here, does anyone run abyssal artillery on Occultist for the extra damage, or is it better to have solely debuffs?
>>136478297
Depends on how full your inventory gets. >>136477129 was a long champ extermination run and I still had trouble filling it until the very end.
But generally: minor antiques > rare antiques > full stack of rubies/sapphires > gold > trapezohedrons > everything else is trash.
>>136478568
deppends on your party, i run artillery on the occ when he is with a PD, the blight + artilley is allways allmost enought to kill the 3rtd and 4rth enemy rank
>>136478910
you should be able to stack trapezohedrons with antiquarians
>>136479039
It's a bummer gems don't stack more with her in general.
just imagine how hard the heores dick must be after successfuly dungeoning, do they hump each other or carry onaholes?
>>136479039
Look, the asshole isn't magic. They're already stuffing 500 extra gold coins up there.
>>136478568
Sacrificial Stab is better in 90 percent of the situations. If you want to have fun, take an Occultist with Eldritch Slayer, Abyssal Artillery, Eldritch Slaying Ring and Eldritch Killing Incense to the Cove. He can take out the back fishes by himself easily.
Honestly, the -dmg debuff isn't amazing except for certain enemies (giants in Weald, Swinetaurs, Swine God, etc.). Only take the vulnerability hex if you have decent mark synergy (BH, Arb, HM, the other ones aren't that great).
I usually take Wyrd Reconstruction, SacStab, Daemon's Pull and Weakening Curse.
>>136479157

>>136481756
It's a good rank 2/3 fill.
His stress heal is insane and if you don't need it you can use his bleed attacks.
What the fuck is this and why can't I remove it?
>>136481756
send him with an abom to negate his stress gain each turn, or on long missions, otherwise its shiiiit
>>136482334
It's the amount of cocks she has taken
>>136481081
It's not possible for two revelations to kill a tanky hero if they're at full health and 0 stress.
Which they should be since the dungeon is full of fights with lmao2cultists making it abusable for a healer and stress healer.
My Leper sponged two of those back to back, then the MAA guarded him and then the Templars had to deal with 50 damage crits every round.
I get the Vestalt is probably a reference to Warhammer Fantasy's "Sisters of Sigmar" with the Warhammer 40k name equivalent "Sister of Battle".
Are there other very specific possible references? I understand the Plague Doctor is a fucking plague doctor and the Occultist may be someone out of Arabian Nights but what about the others? Crusader is Dank Souls and the Man-at-Arms is a German soldier of the Holy Roman Empire?
>>136481756
Jester is literally just a buff whore, as his offensive capabilities are completely garbage. He either does wacky movement based attacks that inevitably do no fucking damage or just miss, or has pathetic bleed attacks that are only useful against the Flesh.
But man, those buffs are more than good enough. His Stress Heal with a Bright Tambourine is really good, and Battle Ballad is absolutely crazy since Speed and Accuracy is really important in Champion dungeons and the extra crit is icing on the cake. And since he can move to literally anywhere in the party and has high speed you can use him to fix any bad shuffles.
His health sucks but he has decent dodge, and you should typically combo him with a healer so you can abuse those situations where your team can just stall for heals. So in somewhere like DD2 or the Cove he's really great.
I combo him with Leper. Both heroes are bad on their own but they make a brutal combo together.
>>136482985
Do you need the talismans of the flame for the third part of the Darkest Dungeon too?
>>136483860
The Occultist is actually straight from Lovecraft, based on Abdul Alhazred who authored the Necronomicon.
Similarly the Antiquarian is a Lovecraft thing, he uses that specific term alot although the design itself is more a Silk Road theme.
The Arbalest's father was killed by a racist lynch mob so it's referencing that, i'm not sure if the "pillage and bandage" aspect is based on something since it seems a very deliberate motif.
>>136483981
No, they're only for the second mission thankfully.
That said, I highly recommend a Plague Doctor with Blinding Gas and stun trinkets for DD3.
>>136483860
The seals the Man-at-Arms has on his armor look like purity seals from Warhammer and 40k. His overall theme seems like a foot-soldier from Warhammer Fantasy.
>>136483860
straight from the wiki
>The Leper has inspirations taken from Baldwin the IV, a king of Jerusalem who was also known as "The Leper." In fact, one of the pregenerated names for The Leper is Baldwin.
>>136484328
wait they killed him because he was a nigger? i never did understand that comic but maybe the people outside where all white and not just shadows? they did live near a swamp if I recall correctly so maybe they were seclusive due to raicis,
>>136484725
Yeah he does look like a Knight of the Blazing sun, but then again totally-not-fantasy-Germany is heavily based on the Holy Roman Empire. I somehow missed the blessing roll of paper thing, I guess since it wasn't red I just assumed it was something else.
Keep in mind the armors are different, not all artist made them super over stylized.
Fantastic

Thanks for the input (and for the other Anons too), I beat the 8 Pounder with an Arbalest - Occulist - Hound Master - Man-At-Arms team. Worked fine with 2-3 minor annoyances (but those were all on me), though that fucking cannon indeed hits like a truck (again: on me).

Even though that comic touched me the mostand I'm far from being black, I think the motivation behind the mob's aggression cannot be determined. We simply don't have enough information for that.
>>136484328
>>136484829
The motivations for the mob are left ambiguous. In case you haven't noticed, ambiguous backstories have been a running theme with these backstory comics, and I'm pretty sure all the other heroes are going to be like this.
The Arbalest mentions her being a general's daughter, so I like to think the father in that comic was a war criminal. But for all we know, she might have just been talking about an adoptive father who took her in after her real one died.

Junia's Head + Heal Trinkets.
I use him mainly for Heals and mark, since I can't reliably get a Vestal out thanks to Abomination.
The entire strategy revolves around Abom and Plagie throwing bombs and vomit over squares 2-3-4 with 3 being the primary focus of blight damage.
Bounty just sits there and hacks away at marked targets, while everything else dies by turn 2-3

I JUST WANTED TO HELP OKAY
Man, long dungeons feel like such a waste - the first half of it I just end up constantly ditching stuff because my inventory is full. The only thing making them remotely worthwhile are the hidden rooms
>>136556684
If you bring an antiquarian with you it's immensely profitable
Are mark parties good for long dungeons?
>>136555731
No, there is no such thing. Religious abominations don't accept non-religious Abominations into their ranks.*tips non-existing kalimavkion*
>>136556684
The key with Long dungeons is 1) deciding in advance if heirlooms or gold will be the priority, 2) constantly using up consumables from your inventory in order to maximise available space and 3) having at least two empty trinket slots on your characters.
>>136557438
Anything is good for good dungeons as long as it's fitting for the dungeon it takes place. Aside from that, the importance of both the Jester (as an anti-stress hero) and proper camp skills are definitely bigger, so it might be a good idea to take these into consideration.
Would you guys say that the Raider's Talisman is worth it? Perks look pretty dank.
It's been forever since i last played, so i can't remember if the 100% food eaten really is as problematic as one might think.

>>136557778

>>136558551
>Would you say that Jester is required for long dungeons?
Not required, as long as you have a secondary plan to either deal with or mitigate stress.
>>136557778
That thing is the shit. Never left the hamlet without it after getting assblasted by 5 traps in a medium ruins run with torch >75% at all times..
>>136558551
Houndmaster, Vestal, and Crusader are all solid second choices for stress reduction. Each of them have good or decent camp skills that drop stress across the board, while HM and C can mitigate stress somewhat in combat. Crusader's camp skill is particularly good because it also buffs stress resistance on everybody, and he heals even more stress on himself if he becomes afflicted.
>>136557885
>>136558035
Good idea indeed, and I haven't read it anywhere so far. Ideally, I try to use 1 (musthave) trinket / hero, and even if I need to throw another one or two to the mix, I make sure it's generally useful and not restricted to a class. Last but not least, always keep in mind what's a trinket worth.
>>136558551
Required? I don't think so. Useful? Definitely. At Apprentice level (long) missions, I don't even need to camp 9 times out of 10 - so even if things go South, you could camp to reduce stress. Having Heroes with self-stress heal (e.g. Leper) could be valuable at higher level without a Jester.
>>136558067
The traps don't have a "trap resist" listed though.

Sure, if you really want to waste inventory like that
>>136562003
Yeah, same with trinkets that do "+1 food consumed" before you camp
>>136560340
Doesn't really matter. Every other mechanic clearly indicates that 100% chance is not a certainty. You should not have remained in the mindset that it does.
Especially considering that the listed trap disarm chance so easily goes above 100%, even without trinkets. That should have given you a hint.

>>136586163
Bring two occultists w/weaking curse.
>>136586301
Vestal and Leper can only debuff the first 2 spots. You'd have to break 2 pews to get to him. That's assuming your Occultist doesn't get stunned even once.
>>136584668
This is why you take occultists for their utility of debuffing, pulling stunning and decent damage (great against eldritch). The healing is just an added bonus (which is why he doesn't have any trinkets that sync with the skill).
>>136586163
Best way to keep the fight under control is 2 occultist with weakening curse and an MAA with Wilbur's Flag guarding one of them. Even if the prophet goes towards both with the stun, you will still have a consistent stack of at least -120% damage.

Give him a demon's cauldron in the other slot, if debuffs won't stick. It's not like he has any bleed/blight skills to worry about, and it doesn't effect his damage, stun, or pull chance at all.
>>136587978
>and how am i supposed to get them back up to level 6 with only 1 free roster space
I don't understand the question. Are you saying your entire roster is leveled so high you can't send anybody with the newbie on an apprentice run? Because if so:
1) You're doing entirely too well to have any right to complain, faggots.
2) Just drag them along on a veteran run with a supportive team, pile on heals and guards, and level them that way. Some of the kickstarter trinkets give xp bonuses, if you're too impatient.
>>136587978
Power-level them through long champion dungeons. Give them the Ancestor's Portrait and whatever else and send them in with:
Houndmaster - dodge guard the lowbie, also enables stalling.
Jester - takes care of any and all stress and does bleed damage.
Vestal - consistent heals and does damage.
Every fight will be a massive slog and will require at least some stalling near the end, but the lowbie will be doing champ runs no problem next time! Even better if one of the 3 is a DD survivor!

Plague doctor masks were generally made from heavy, full-fleshed leather and designed to be stuffed with herbs and spices, because at the time it was believed that diseases were carried by miasma or bad smells (that's what the big pointed nose was for). The eyepieces were either heavy glass (glassmaking at the time had difficulty producing panes thinner than half an inch or so, and grinding was expensive) or in some cases very thin sheets of horn. They were generally fairly rigid and weighed around three to four pounds.
So yeah, they were pretty beefy.
My starting Crusader, Highwayman, and Vessel just died, and I'm only at like my 4th quest.

>Long Term Roadmap
>Steam Workshop Support – We remain super excited about empowering modders. Sometime this Spring, we want to have Steam Workshop support in the game and create some better tools. We’ll keep you posted as we make progress towards that.
>PS4 / Vita: We have great partners at Sony, and now that the Steam launch is out of the way, we can dedicate ourselves to figuring out a great controller scheme and continuing with the process of finishing up the PS4 and Vita versions. As you may already know, we showed the PS4 version in a hands-on demo at the PlayStation Experience (PSX) in San Francisco and December, and it was a hit!
>While we don’t have a firm release date yet, know that it is in work and we’ll update you when we can!
>Kickstarter Physical Rewards (Art books, prints, dioramas): The game art is done, so we can also begin production of these items!
>Other Awesome Stuff: While we can’t confirm specifics, let’s just say we aren’t out of ideas, and have some other things planned as well!
Besides the town events, the game should generally be complete. The devs kind of implied they want to add more monsters during some of their streams. They talked about hero corpses and said it was a good idea, but felt that the time the artist would need to make sprites for all the different dead heroes could be better invested in "something else like new monsters." So that might be the "more awesome stuff" the post was talking about.

Is there some sort of a list or guide that tells you how many quests of a particular tier are available at different character levels?
For example, I know the first Veteran difficulty quest starts showing up once you have two guys at resolve level 2, but what about the tiers after that? When will I stop having access to Veteran difficulty quests, for example?
>>136629997
It's a percentage based on how many people you have near or in the target level. So if you have a bunch of level 2s, you'll start seeing veteran quests. If you only have level 3-5s, you'll only get veteran and a few champion quests.

Blights and stuns in case she summons something nasty or you need to temporarily disable a charmed hero.
Otherwise, bring debuff resist. Pour that holy water before and during.
Don't make your party too rigid in positioning. She's bound to mess up your order if a hero is charmed and they go back at rank 4.
Also
>>136511269
I'm missing him so much :(
>>136646689
Stunners - her stun % is low for a boss (50/75/100) but she gets two actions. Stunning a lot will still lower the number of things she can do though. Stuns also let you safely disable your hero.
Avoid bringing guard characters (HM/M@A). They will invariably guard on her, and M@A may buff her.
Bring healing. Siren hersellf does barely any damage, but your charmed her might. Stress healing is probably skippable.
Bring holy water. Whoever has the lowest debuff resist is much much much more likely to get charmed, so you can control who gets charmed turn 1, or if you want 1 hero to never get charmed, have them drink it repeatedly throughout the fight (highest debuff resist NEVER gets targeted with charm)
Marking parties are really good because even if your team members get charmed they won't get the bonus damage due to no mark. So: BH, Occultist, Arbalest, HWM, GR.
>>136646689
Bring Holy Water with you and use it right before the fight. It increases debuff resistance, so it'll be hard for the Siren to steal anyone. Don't focus all your party's strength into one hero, and for the love of RNGesus don't bring a Man-at-Arms.

Negative quirks are gained randomly after quests, curio investigation, or from town activities. The skull represents the quirk being locked in, meaning other - quirks won't replace it. It will also cost more to remove if it is locked in. Negative quirks are locked in if they are left untreated for a set amount of time and if there is a slot left as there can only be 3 locked in at a time.

>>136647203
>if you want 1 hero to never get charmed, have them drink it repeatedly throughout the fight (highest debuff resist NEVER gets targeted with charm)
Just want to say this is only partially true, as if you have a hero with a fuckton of buffs then she'll prioritise charming them over the lowest debuff resistance hero.
Every time i've piled on a ton of buffs on one hero she's tried to steal it to the point of using charm twice a turn just to be an asshole.
So generally if you do go for the siren, the safest thing is to have team buffs as she will pick out your huge cthulhu statue gains Abomination/Hellion.

Random idea: would it make sense to bring an Antiquarian as an obvious bait? This way precious loot is pretty much guaranteed, while she can barely do any damage every time she gets taken.
Which should be (in theory) every occasion when the Siren uses her charm, thanks to the low debuff resistance. The rest of the team would be a BH, a HM (w/ no Guard) and I'll figure out the 4th.

>>136710472
Seems too gimmicky. What if the siren charms someone else?
Also, by bringing aunty, you're bringing less damage which could drag out the fight long enough for bad shit to start happening.
>>136722438
>What if the siren charms someone else?
Assuming that 1) the Siren only has maximum one charmed hero in her ranks and 2) the probability that the hero with the lowest Debuff resistance will be chosen is high, it should be totally viable. Unless RNGesus fucks you over, but this applies for everything in this game.
>you're bringing less damage which could drag out the fight
Again, solid point but a manageable risk. The Merchant's inability to fight would cause more headache in battles on the road to the Siren than the boss fight itself. Unfortunately, I could test this setup myself but I'm sure it would have been an interesting experiment.
been away for a week, any new updates? town events when?
>>136724562
>*couldn't test myself
Really, I got my first Antiquarian literally before the Siren run (which means 0 resolve = can't be upgraded) and I have way too less Apprentice level heroes (while the roster is full) to be able to afford unnecessary runs. Plus the reward was great at the moment, so ...
>>136725241
To my best knowledge, there's no new updates and Town Events still don't have ETA.They'll probably suck anyway.

If I brought a fuckton of holywater maybe I could have made siren keep picking her
>>136710472
During my first battle against the Siren, my aunty got charmed. Easiest boss fight ever
>>136729165
Did the siren manage to summon a creature?
Something to consider; in higher difficulties, she can summon a giant crab. In which case, I'd probably wish I brought someone other than aunty.
Why do peeps consider Fasting Seal a gud trinket? Does it have some secret effect aside from saving you gold?
>>136735048
It's overrated.
>>136735048
it means you carry less food which ends up being more loot you can carry in its place, also so you don't have that rare chance you had 0 food with a hunger tick
>>136735048
Speaking as someone who almost always gets hunger in the third hallway of the dungeon, I can see it being really helpful. Not as much as more damage, I don't think, but still nice to have if you've nothing better.
...Making me wonder how it works if everyone has one and you don't have food. Can you choose to eat zero food and get heals from it? Or feast for free?
>>136731128
No, I brought stuns so she was always wasting her action on a charm
>>136735048
They're good because you can stay in a dungeon indefinitely with no timer, reduce your inventory space consumption, save you money over time
Basically once you get good at the game and know how to build a composition, you don't really need good trinkets on your heroes anyway, so anything that reduces costs and increases the income of outings is great - since you're grinding for most of the game anyway. It helps that the Fasting Seal itself has no downside. +5 dodge and no bad effect. It's not a wasted slot.
>>136737393
Yes, you get full effects from feasting and hunger checks (even healing and stress relief) at 0 food cost
Hunger checks are just free 5% health for everyone if you have 4 fasting seals or bloodthirst rings
>>136737871
So you could bring an Antiquarian and four Fasting Seals into a dungeon and just pace around for random enemy spawns for a literal full inventory of rare antiques. Good god, the cash.
>>136484764
shit is that the same guy from "Kingdom of Heaven"
>>136738593
If you do that, the minor antiques stack for more than the rares. You could conceivably get 110k from a full inventory of them, which if you were crazy enough to do it with a long champion run would be 125k gold total for one quest.
Personally I use 4 fasting seals all the time with rare exceptions, like switching to 4 cleansing crystals for the Siren. I love the extra inventory space, not having to worry about food and the saving 1k+ gold per quest. Rolling in dough now.

two swine choppers up front, a cultist priest then a defensive growth. they all focus on the same character causing constant bleed and debuffing their heals received. the growth heals, guards and whatnot. maybe two cultists and two growths instead, or two choppers, something along those lines

To fall for such a little thing... a bump of thread
>>136774450
Nothing wrong with him exactly, it's just that he's absurdly good.
>>136774450
Some people consider him to be too powerful but in reality he's not powerful, he's obscenely versatile
He'll never put out the damage numbers of a hellion, bh, arbalest, etc. even in best conditions. He doesn't have the better DoTs and AoE stun of Plague Doctor. His stress heal is generally considered to be the weakest because you can't get a guarantee of stress reduction on the hero that needs it the most.
On the other hand he has all of those tools (stun, bleed, DoT) plus marking, guarding, great dodge chance, a great mark effect, and 'okay' damage. Fits in any party pretty much.

It's possible to win them gambling or for the Antiquarian's Trinket Scrounge campfire ability to find them, but it's a small chance requiring tons of effort for something that ultimately won't be worth it.

>>136778125
The only one I use is the matchstick from the 16 pounder, but the only reason I used it is because I won it a few weeks in when my grave robber developed the gambling only perk. The main reason to use them is because they usually don't have + stress damage like Ancestral trinkets, even if the Ancestor's trinkets are the best for damage. Pen + Musket Ball best trinkets.
What skills do you guys run on your Arbalest? I really hate Blindfire and Rallying Flare is only good for Wilbur. I'm starting to like Suppressing Fire a bit when I already have a marker but I mainly run her first ability, mark, heal and bola.
>>136778851
That's my setup as well, only taking flare for Siren or Swine God. I run Ancestor's Musket Ball and the Wrathful Bandanna, unless I want her to heal, in which case I bring Junia's Head.

Rallying flare could potentially be useful if you really needed to unstun a healer vs ball and chain pigs or anything else that stuns, but the question is why when you could just use her heal instead. Why unstun a damage dealer when you could just deal damage with arbalest? etc.

He's actually not bad. The torch bonus is actually a big boost because I average 4 turns a fight and 1 fight a hall, meaning on average I don't need to bring torches. I still buy a couple for panic light but it adds up fast. How do I into Abomination? Is there some secret trick to using him? From what I can tell, his damage is average-ish and the stress is too much of a penalty for long runs
>>136867671
stick him with a jester and youre golden.
BH/abom/jester/arab is my usual teamor was, since i just use the abom in any comp mod
>>136867671
While there are alternate compositions, he is pretty much always run with an occultist and a jester. He does good damage when transformed and jester's very high stress healing negates it entirely (restraining padlock and bright tambourine make it even easier).
If you don't mind running multiple heroes of the same kind, there are some somewhat cheesy builds like 4 abomination where you cycle 2 to the back to cooldown with absolution (self heal/stress heal) and the front two stay transformed to fight each battle on their own. This cheese is weak against anything with an important back rank because transformed aboms can't hit r4.
Honestly, he has never been a real favorite of mine personally, but that doesn't mean he isn't a powerhouse in the hands of others. DaD has a lot of different playstyles: if the abomination isn't working for you, don't feel pressured to force it.
So, while this might be shit, I'm looking at making skins of the DD classes forhomestuck.

His human skills aren't just filler; you don't need to transform every fight. His chains do average damage and stun, bile is an excellent blight move with much better AoE than PD's grenade (it hits the center ranks, which means it will usually still hit two targets even when large enemies spawn), and absolution is second only to the leper's moves for best self-heal in the game.
That "average-ish" damage you're seeing is his damage in human form. Transformed, his base damage is boosted, and rake buffs him further while turning the front ranks into paste.
He also gets some very good trinkets.

>If a hero looks like they will drain more money than they will bring in, fire them (apprentice leper comes home from a mission with 2 diseases, 120 stress, and kleptomanic? send him fucking packing) - the task ahead is terrible and weakness CANNOT be tolerated
Apprentice tier (resolve level 0-2) heroes are essentially worthless to you, you can feel free to fire them without feeling guilty, they're not something you want to invest in unless they show up with amazing quirks (evasive on houndmaster, fated on leper, quickdraw early riser on guard on any hero)
UPGRADE YOUR STAGECOACH. More heroes means you can get rid of your low tiers more easily if they become too costly to maintain. More roster means you can save more heroes in reserve for later. Experienced Recruits is ultimately what you're gunning for because new heroes will show up with...
>Higher level
>Fully upgraded weapons and armor for their level
>Fully upgraded skills (and more skill choices)
>More quirks
Remember - your goal is to manage the health of the HAMLET as a whole, not individual heroes. You want to bring in more heirlooms and wealth to strengthen the entire campaign, not to overinvest in the first hero you see.

Though I don't agree with that point, treating them as trainees until they hit level 3 is definitely an efficient way. So don't spend a dime on them unless it's necessary (hint: Medium missions with a Jester could make their Stress disappear for free while they're making money for you) and if they're looking good Quirk-wise when they hit Veteran level, you could start to invest into them. Ideally, you always want to have at very least a group of Apprentice level heroes to do easy missions, especially now with the introduction of the Antiquarian. After you have a nice collection of trinkets and at least semi-experienced with the game yourself, it's basically free money laying on the street. Don't be lazy and pick it up.

You always want to stack SPD on a character that wants to set up ripostes or you'll miss out on damage. Protect Me ASAP, it makes HWM much beefier.
The strategy works with M@A but it's much better with HWM for several reasons:
>Duelist's Advance does good damage, Retribution doesn't
>HWM has higher base damage, base dodge, and base speed - all things you want on your riposte character
>The Forward 1 from Advance sets up PBS
>Lower health means enemies are more likely to target HWM
The advantage of using M@A is that he's beefier in case you're worried about getting blitzed
Overall the strategy is a good one, Riposte has breathed new life into HWM as a hero

>>136911115
You can also try giving the Hwm some dodge buffs/trinkets, to help him avoid damage as he retaliates against it.
>>136911115
>>Lower health means enemies are more likely to target HWM
Is this actually relevant though? Too many times I've seen enemies randomly focusing down the toughest hero, or completely ignoring the hero with lowest health.

Maybe so, but with the antiquarian and getting familiarized with what positions the enemies can hit, you can boost your chance of the hwm being targeted.
So frontline fishes can only hit the first two hero ranks, so if you put your protected jewfu and highwayman there, they'll always be riposte'd because they can't hit the other heroes.

Thanks for the input! Unfortunately, I fucked up. Haven't lost anybody, but it was shameful. The main issue is that I literally ran out of Healers before the mission, and (though I *never* do this) I went without one on a Long mission. Since I doesn't even camp once in 8 times out of 10 and had plenty team-buffs, I thought it's worth a shot.
My overconfidence almost cost me valuable trinkets and ten thousand gold worth of loot. Lesson learned.Again.The MaA - Antiquarian combo worked well thoughuntil the first double CRIT, I'm definitely going to try again. Same for the HWM - Antiquarian combo.

Always have a surplus of healers, even if they're just meme arabs or triage crossbow
>>136917606
A mix of off healers like crusader + Plague doctor also works.
HOLD!
And now, the true test
Since a few weeks has passed since the patch, this is the new up-to-date tier list.

>hold fast
What do?
>>136917606
Believe me, having a pair of Vestal and Occultist in the roster is a must. The main issue is that they eventually level up, and the stagecoach can't keep up reliably with their tempo. This is exactly what happened with me. And happening as we speak.
>>136917606
Self-healing heroes are also solid alternatives, too bad the Leper refuse to team up with the Abomination. Even if you have a weak healer (like the Crusader), as long as he only needs to focus only one hero besides himself, it's fine with a few trinkets.

Nice blog, subscribed
The natural reflex in a riposte build is to stack on +dmg, and that's a valid way to do things, but since riposting requires getting targetted in the first place you may face a lot of
>damage, stress, stuns, diseases, debuffs
So another good way to build is to put Ancestor's Coat + Camouflage Cloak on your HWM for +30 dodge. With the extra dodge from Antiquarian (10-20) on top of the prot she gives, your 'tank' will be much safer.

>GR that low
>Abom that high
>Antiquarian that high
Heir what the fuck
>>136918848
>GR 2nd lowest tier
Do you not like crits?
>>136925061
Best crit rate is Arbalest
Not that guy though
>>136925432
Woah, seriously? She never crits for me.
>>136925657
Arbalest crit goes from 7.5 to 9.5, and her camp skill also gives +5 more crit
GR's crit is from 5 to 7
>>136926038
What about their attack skills? Lunge and Knife toss have pretty high crit chance.
>>136926443
Good point, those have 10% crit. Sniper shot only has 5% crit (+5% when marked), so GR would crit more if you aren't using camp skills or marking.
>>136918848
>Leper & Jester bottom tier
THEM'S FIGHTING WORDS
>>136926739
And as it scales, too, lunge knife throw and sniper shot all only gain 2% crit rate, but at max level the BONUS for marking has doubled to 10%
In all, you can therefore get 10% more crits with an arbalest in ideal conditions
>>136926739
>>136926941
No matter how hard you try, you won't mark every single enemy. And you have to build your team around marks to make it worth it.
>>136929728
That's true but crits matter much more for bosses than they do in hallways
No one's knocking a good reliable crit knife to burn off a little stress and maybe pick off a backliner, but that crit would go a lot further chipping off 50 or 60 health from a boss
