Okay, but why does it say;

Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World) is a free-to-play digital battlefield, focusing on military aircraft simulation. It includes a FREE TF-51D and an Su-25T attack aircraft.

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/alpha/
Does this means that all modules have to be re-purchased for 2.0? Or are there new modules for 2.0?

2.0 is the new version of DCS, it is currently in alpha whilst the Georgia map is ported to the new terrain engine and therefore only has the NTTR terrain for now.

When that is complete, 1.5 & 2.0 will merge into one version with the free Georgie map & the payware NTTR on one .exe.

All your modules are usable on both versions and don't / won't need to be re-bought.
>>
>>136139248
Okay, so right now I can try the new terrain for free in the Alpha while they are porting the east block-map to a new engine, but when the engine and 2.0 is finished I will have to pay for the new sand/NA terrain?

Then why are people saying it cost too much, when it's free right now? Okay, maybe in the future it will cost too much, but not right now, if it's free, right?
>>
>>136140741
Sand is basically an alpha test/preorder right now.

You have to pay to fly on Nevada.
>>
>>136140741
Sand is $60 and has always been $60. You must buy it if you want to play the 2.0 alpha and you can only play it on the alpha. You can play the georgia map for free on 1.5 stable or 1.5 beta. Eventually DCS stable will be upgraded to 2.0 and both maps will be playable on the same 2.0, but Georgia will still be free and sand will still be $60 or possibly more.

>>136143105
It was actually 40-something bucks for a while last year.

In the US at least, they were never pursued in military endeavors due to safety concerns, namely that counter-rotating blades could collide due to flexing torsion under hard or unusual maneuvers, which humorously led them to pursuing canted rotors and other weird shit that was actually more dangerous to fly.

we totally still had a few though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrodyne_RON_Rotorcycle

>>136168837
>>136168470
So I'm thinking of adding a few extra flyables to this op for added entertainment.

There's a Russian Flyables mod that adds: the following (disregarding the 6 non-combat aircraft it adds):
>MiG-23MLD
>MiG-25PD
>MiG-27K
>MiG-31
>Su-17M4
>Su-24M
>Su-30
>Su-34

All these sound great but the mod is kinda shit and many of the cockpit placements are retarded, so I'm going through and modifying them myself so they are actually functional. For example in the Su-24 its impossible to see the SHVAL in the HUD Repeater screen in the Su-27 cockpit it uses so I changed the position so its visible again.

Anyway, probably only going to add an Su-24 or 2 and maybe something else, depending on what people want. The Su-24 will mainly be for pinpoint strikes and SEAD called for by the choppers.

And I know you're gonna say something like:
>required mods
>REEEEE

But this isn't required and frankly an A-10C or Su-25T will probably do a much better job but its fun to fly something that isn't one of the currently available modules.

Also I'll probably start adding more stuff like this to ops because frankly I'm getting bored of waiting around for more modules to come out.

Download to come soon™

I thought you were talking in general. The F-15s flight model is fine and arguably one of the best in DCS depending in how seriously you take the term PFM. Fly the MiG-29 or Su-33 if you want an example of a plane with a shitty flight model. Their ground handling and transition between on the ground and in the air are especially weird because the whole thing is scripted.
>>
>>136185808
The FM is excellent, if you are a super autist you may notice some edge of envelope nitpicks.
>>
>>136186313
Because they haven't had their flight models updated yet, is this hard to understand?

That's why they aren't sold as separate modules, when they get FM updates they will be sold separately as well.
>>
I want to start FSX again but I don't want to fly without a purpose. Has anyone tried FSEconomy?
>>
>>136186994
I'm not sure what you're trying to argue anymore. Of course they're old and shitty, it's why I used them as an example of what an old and shitty flight model is like.

The F-15C flight model is perfectly fine.

Background: Iranian aircraft have hit and sank one US Frigate, damaged another, and sank two Kuwaiti oil tankers two days previously. In order to protect the tankers and allied naval forces in the Persian Gulf, the US launches Operation Righteous Fury.

>BLUFOR: Flying F-14Bs, F/A-18Cs, A-6E Intruders from two carriers must strike Iranian land- and sea-based A2A and A2S missile platforms (both shore installations and ships), airfields, and CnC and communications posts.
>REDFOR: Flying F-14Bs (for balance) and F-5s, with AI F-4 Phantom II's for balance as needed. REDFOR must defend its airfields and CnC facilities while attempting to sink the US carriers.

>>
>>136199942
I'd be okay with sacrificing a LITTLE realism for the sake of a balanced mission, hence giving the Iranians the -B when historically they only had -As at the time. The question is balancing a mission like that.

It might actually work better if the human players on the OpFor side act more like aggressor pilots, where their job is not necessarily to "win" the mission but rather provide more of a challenge to the US side than the AI could provide.
>>
>>136200709
It's only really the human pilots that will care about the different between A & B I think, the AI will likely treat them identically since most of the improvements the A+/B offered are abstracted when the AI flies the jet.

Do the Iranians have any MiG-21bis? Perhaps captured from the Iraqis like their Mirage F1 fleet.
>>
>>136201004
All I can find is this:

>The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) was formed from the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 that ousted Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlevi. During and after the war with Iraq, which raged from September 1980 to August 1988, Iran tried to rebuild its stock of aircraft and in 1989 purchased 12 MiG-21 PFs and a number of MiG-21 UMs from East Germany but the aircraft were impounded at the repair plant in Dresden and none were delivered. (Some sources suggest 2 arrived in Iran but this is doubtful.) Photos exist of a MiG-21 PF and a MiG-21 UM wearing green/tan desert camouflage but no insignia whatsoever.

>18 Chengdu F-7Ms were ordered in 1985 and delivered in 1987; some sources suggest the number was 21. Additionally, four Guizhou FT-7 trainers were procured at the same time. Understandably there was great secrecy about this order as China was already supplying large numbers of F-7s to Iraq.

>Based at TAB 5, Umidiyeh, they serve with 51, 52 and 53 Tactical Fighter Squadrons and wear tan/bluish grey camouflage. No confirmation has been found for a story in circulation suggesting that 12 were successfully used in the Iraqi war thanks to their similarity to the enemy’s MiG-21 s, nor that a further 100 were subsequently ordered.

>However, the delivery in 1993 of 18 F-7Ns and seven FT-7 trainers, and five more in 1996 have been recorded.

>It has also been suggested that the Air Force wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also use this fighter.

http://www.aviatia.net/military-aircraft/iran-mig-21/

So....maybe?
>>
>>136201341
Well maybe not even "maybe", but I wonder if the F-7M and the MiG-21bis are comparable enough that the MiG can serve as a stand-in without seeming out of place.

>>
>>136205082

If you're so concerned give Iran some Mig-29s.

They basically recieved all of Iraq's airforce during the 1991 Gulf War. That includes Mig-29s, Su-25s, and Mig-21s.

If you wanted it to be historically accurate, just set the mission after 1991, and make sure you use Mig-29A, not S.

>After entering Persian Gulf, Iran announces it will not allow the CBG to transit the Strait to exit the Persian Gulf, essentially trapping the CBG in the Gulf.

>Scenario: US CBG is at the far left of the map, must transit safely through Strait. Iran must not allow US CBG through strait without causing significant damage.

Depends if it's a purely PvP mission, itf it's versus AI then the balancing is done via numbers not equipment. And as >>136206032 said, in a 90s scenario the Iranian AF inventory is hugely wide ranging and includes more or less everything we have in DCS.

FC3 planes flight models are as follows:

PFM: (professional fight model based on input from pilots who've flown the plane for real)
F-15C
Su-27

AFM: (advanced flight model based on a variety of sources from official documents to fluid dynamics simulations)
A-10A
Su-25
Su-25T

SFM: (standard flight model that the engine automatically generates based on the aircraft's 3d model, these aircraft are scheduled to receive a PFM in future)
Su-33
MiG-29
MiG-29S

Why even update? Surely after over a decade of work BMS is flawless?

Does buying the rights to a game really give you the right to shit all over a user made mod for no reason? Do they really hope to squeeze a few more sales out of an ancient game? I don't play BMS or know in depth the whole situation with this new publisher but it sounds like a bunch of copyright vulture bullshit.
