You know, rather than comparing the Priest legendary to Faceless Manipulator, I think it should be seen as a bigger Raptor that not only works with Deathrattles but also things like divine shield and end of turn effects.
If you have even one of those things on the board when your turn 6 comes, Volazj is pretty good value.
He also has the added versatility of being useful very late in the game in control versus control matchups to duplicate Ysera, Rag & co.

I thought roar could have been made minions only. That extra 2 face damage was often a tipping point. So many games are stabilized at 13-14 hp. And if it wasn't enough, you could just nerf it again. mirror entity is a pain but it's generally overpowered only when it's cheated out by mad scientist
otherwise, if you play anything lower value than a vanilla 3-drop they're losing out on a lot of value. Granted, they still get tempo up on you since the creature is summoned on your turn, so they'll usually get first attack. That just makes it a generally decent card, as class cards are supposed to be.
Also, you forgot that mages by definition are supposed to be the guys that have an answer to everything. That's kind of their thing. They don't particularly excel at anything. Tempo mage was fucking busted though.

When a card references "Your minions" it means the ones on the board. If it says "In your hand" it means in your hand.
Hearthstone card text never references the board directly.
Personally I think it's pretty bad. The effect should be "When you play a minion summon a 1/1 copy of it". That would be more powerful and allow for it to be used as a comeback mechanic rather than a 'win more' mechanic as it is now.
