"Not even once being understood.", a line from his UBW chant, in the future we know he ends up becoming a hero who is never recognized by the general public. How accurate is what Conjueror wrote anyway:
Because you have to be pretty hardcore into VNs (and reading in general) to even attempt reading it as a foreigner. It has the biggest split between median (85) and average (80) in egs of any VN I know.
It's inaccessible because it's hard to understand, extremely slow paced, and prioritizes fancy prose and literary merit over being fun. An average Japanese gamer who is into moe will never get past the prologue because it's too dense and tiring to read. People who would hate it usually can't/don't read it to begin with, so you don't hear many bad opinions. People who love it, meanwhile, get so captivated they can never shut up. :p
I imagine a lot of people in the western scene would go "?????????????" if DI actually got translated since there's nothing like it in the west (imagine FSN just 5x times more pretentious and long-winded -- and ppl already complain about that game being slow). Besides, I had to read DI twice to be confident I truly understood it, and it's like 80 hours long. It's an amazing work I respect for all that complexity and depth, but I'm not sure how good it is at actually entertaining people.

Conjueror is the main translator, Gare is the editor. Not sure what moogy and Haro do, but I guess they give input. Some lines can have multiple interpretations and you have to get pretty creative about localizing it, so having multiple people give opinions is helpful.

The parts seem to drag on and on and on, with flashbacks that could be significantly trimmed down, and even scenes that could be entirely cut out. I'd have to re-read it to tell you exactly which ones, but it certainly did NOT need to be as long as it was.
The ending hive scene was terrible. Like 1 hour long max. They could not have been more lazy. "Just kill everyone off with a cg or two thrown in guys, we're done with this shit let's get paid." 10 minute dialogue with the beta mind and that's that. Wow great novel.

群像劇という形で、それぞれの視点から語られるべき想いがあるのは
当然な事なので後者は致し方ないとしても、
こんな良い作品なのだからフルボイスで楽しみたかったですね。
内容自体が良すぎるために、その点だけが心から残念に感じました。

Alright, sorry for blogposting, but I wanted to get some things off my chest regarding MuvLuv.
I've gotten to episode 8 in Alternative so far, and it's been reminding me a bit of SteinsGate with the plot and all. However, Extra and Unlimited really failed to attach me to the characters and the world in the same way that the first half of SteinsGate did, so right now it just feels...dumb.
Theconstant CHOMP gore flashesseems like a cheap way of eliciting an emotional response for a character that I was never that close to in the first place. Not just that, but I've spent at least 30 hours on the series so far, and it feels like it's been literally constant build-up. I know I'm probably on the cusp of actual action happening, but I hope that at the end I won't be bitter at all the time spent on an unsatisfying, slow-moving plot, though seeing other people in this thread say they didn't like the ending does particularly instill me with confidence.
Wondering if you guys felt similarly,and sorry again for the blog post.

That depends on the story. A good bittersweet ending is about showing the consequences of the story, but also how the protagonist chooses to face them.
Saya no Uta's endings work, because they're earned. the game was never going to have a happy ending, but the sweetness is derived from the reactions of the characters, not the actual events of the ending.

Everyone has polarizing opinions on Grisaia no Kajitsu. As I am about to move on to another VN butI just have one question regardless if you dislike the GsK or not.
How does the consciousness of Michiru work/stack up? I wrapped up with her last and while I understand the two personalities I would like to hear some opinions on the real Michiru's psyche.
Starting with her base personality:

Here is where things get confusing for me.
Is she intentionally doing a poor job at being a tsundere to achieve the recognition she desires in the form of people laughing at her? Or is she so inept that she sucks at being a tsundere - which is a source of comedy, what she strives for regardless.
If it were the latter, you think she would try to be worse in her act. From seeing how she behaves I think she honestly believes she is doing a good job, otherwise she would try to fuck up more deliberately. Yet it seems she does not fuck up intentionally. Which makes me again question - when she fucks up is that her core self failing to maintain/execute her act? Because with her intent to find purpose through being a clown, she should be able to see that failing is to her benefit. Those around her are more amused by her presence, not necessarily laughing at her. This makes it even more complicated. At one point near the end she claims the tsundere act was to amuse people, but what part was amusing to them? Which part was she faking?

Well, I finally finished. Extra, Unlimited, and Alternative all in around 33 hours (give or take a few) over 4 days.
Honestly, I don't know what to think. Right now I'm leaning towards Alternative being a giant dissapointment, or maybe it was alright and the series is decent to good as a whole. Absolutely did not live up to the hype as well as Steins;Gate did, but maybe that's just me. I'll probably write a more detailed opinion tomorrow, after some much needed time for reflection...I fucking powered through this thing.

It seems to me that most people really loved Alternative and disliked Extra and the final ending, while I didn't like Alternative very much (still torn) but I at least enjoyed Extra (I mean, it was pretty generic shit, but it at least it was feel-good shit)

Doing something for entertainment is different from doing something for work. Why would you learn Chinese or Korean for the purpose of entertainment if there is no content in either language that interests you? You're only going to drop it after a couple days-weeks since there's no motivation to keep going.
If you're looking to earn money and obtain entertainment, a programming language is the best language to learn, especially if you like programming like I do.
Otherwise, if you already have enough skill with programming to make money like I do or simply don't like programming, Japanese isn't a bad language to learn for "fun", especially with the rise in popularity of Japanese media. One might be able to earn a small amount on the side through translating, although translating is not something I'd want to do for a living.
