Everything save for the world bosses can be done with pretty much anybody. People are saying Loki is required for world bosses, but that isn't true, seeing as I beat black dwarf with Sharon/Ultron/Nico last night having Nico doing the heavy lifting.
Ultimately, if you want to enjoy playing the game, pick who you like and run with them. If you want to do everything there is to do with relative ease, the character pool becomes much smaller. Also, be prepared to spend money if you choose the latter.

The meta for pre-1.9.5 was fine, because you needed to get revenges and no one was going to try and fight you if you were using the meta-only characters.

Smart Raccoon on Elsa might actually just be overkill on the SCD if you have her uni. Her uni gives her 35% SCD for 15 seconds on a 20 second cooldown, and you can pretty easily get at least 10% SCD from cards. Since SCD caps at 50%, that means the smart raccoon proc will be useless most of the time.
Unfortunately, Hawk's Eye is better for Elsa and Smart Raccoon is better for Loki.

IM's leadership gives 24% SCD. Same with Sharon. Without that SCD, you can't pop summons and shields (on characters that have those) fast enough to keep up with the World Boss' insane damage and attacks.
His leadership is what makes him good, not his kit. His kit is OK, but nothing special. That said, with his 2099 uni, he gets pretty good damage, and he'll probably be getting a Civil War uni in a couple months that buffs him up more.

Prior to comic cards, his and sharon's leaderships were the only way to get reliable SCD. SCD gear doesn't do much, and Smart Raccoon/Spy Tactics were good but still operated on a cooldown. Sharon and IM giving 24% SCD was huge.
But now you can get enough SCD from cards that cards + IM/SC + ISO-8 SCD sets becomes a bit redundant as it caps at 50%.
It's still a very useful leadership, just not as crucially important as it was before.

It might not seem as bad now because you're spending less gold to be matched with stronger teams, since each reroll returns a higher ranked player. But the core issue is the initial matchmaking.
Also reverting back seems to have caused some issues. No gears or buffs applying, cooldowns now applying when tagging. Clearly there's no testing or quality control going on.

Not really when the rewards aren't remotely worth the effort. If you're at a point where you're doing them, you have literally no use for level 4 exp chips and the relatively low amount of gold. Plus only 2 Chulk bios for a max of 6 a day? That's still a super-long grind of doing it each level everyday for a character you probably don't even want since he's just yet another male combat hero as if the game wasn't already stuffed with them already.
Rewards need improved on them, and the World Bosses need nerfed (and if need be, the characters too if them being super-overpowered is the reason for them being almost impossible to get). They can't be one-shot killing most characters since that means characters with extremely high dodge or shields is required for the fights, which makes most characters not viable.

For leveling, do whatever is the highest mission you can comfortably farm for highest experience. For ranking them up, you need to farm their bios, which drop from specific story/special/dimension rift missions depending on the character. Also make sure to get the free daily chest everyday for more characters/8 bios a day.

It's pretty clear that he won because he's got a +40% dodge ignore from his strikers. I can keep getting him to his 3rd phase without much trouble but his dodge at that point gets to the point where you just can't hurt him. The trick to the fight as absolutely to get loaded up with dodge ignore/hit the mark.
Unfortunately, I don't have BW, Mockingbird, Deathlok, or Sharon Carter at 6* yet (will have SC soon) so there's really not much I can do at this point. Luckily they're all farmable but it still means like two months of farming just to be able to beat Corvus. Guess I'll start on them next.

Go for it. Remember that everything but the first two bonuses get randomized each time you upgrade.
To get one 5*, you need 5 4*s, so from that angle, 4*s really aren't a big deal if you end up wasting them. Worst case, that's one 5* you miss out on in exchange for a suite of nice boosts in the meantime.

Yeah, it'd be one thing if it was a bunch of unfarmables, but all four are farmable. Mockingbird and BW have 20 bios a day, SC has 15, and all three appear as shifters. Plus farming Deathlok is the best place for consistent experience.

A 6* LLoki, like most things, can solo VS9. Pretty much any 6* can beat VS7 and most can do VS8. Generally, I'd recommend going for Ultron (insanely easy to farm, and can manage VS7-9 with relative ease) and Blingpin (bit harder to farm than Ultron, but his type advantage over Venom and Maestro makes him the best farmable character for VS7-9). Blingpin for VS9, Ultron for VS8, and pretty much any 6* that isn't Elektra should manage VS7.

Post nerf, the only problem with Corvus is his insane amounts of dodge in the third phase making so many of your attacks miss that you can't beat him in the time limit. To add, apparently the Quake (Modern) uni changes her striker ability from mind resist (useless) to +20% Dodge ignore.
So Quake/Deathlok/Sharon Carter/Mockingbird/Black Widow together would give you 100% dodge ignore, which would be more than enough to smoke Corvus with few problems.

Worth noting that dodge ignore doesn't effect Loki's illusions, so while Loki would be perfect for the first 2 phases, she likely wouldn't be able to pump out the DPS necessary for the final stage.
Weird to think that for the Corvus fight, having those 5 farmable characters is more useful than having Loki, Queen of Bullshit and Easy Mode.

SCD is useless on Elsa because her ability gives her 35% cooldown, and SCD caps at 50%. You can pretty easily get 10-15% SCD from cards, so any additional SCD would just be redundant.
It's useful on Loki, although as others have said, not as mandatory as it used to be because you can now get enough off of cards to keep her shields up.
I'd say keep Spy Tactics on Loki but try and get either a Prince of Lies, Hawk's Eye, or Overdrive on Elsa. PoL for survivability, Hawk's Eye/Overdrive for DPS.

Word from testers is starting to come back and it's not looking good. His 6* sounds awesome, but because the damage reflected isn't the damage your opponent dishes out before defenses but after. Since Destroyer's 4* gives 50% energy damage reduction ontop of his already high energy defense, this means that he's not actually reflecting very much damage and either way, is only reflecting the amount he takes. At best, he's a kamikaze against energy-exclusive attackers.

To fully awaken ISO-8, to unlock extra ISO-8 slots, to unequip Cards, to unequip Special Gears, to buy Comic Card chests, to buy Special Gear chests, to expand Inventory because Cards don't stack. All the aforementioned crystal-drainers were added in 2.0.0 which makes it pretty darn clear the direction the devs want to take with this once fantastic game.

Pure RNG. Custom gears have been nerfed across the board to be pretty much useless outside of the resisters. It takes 16 gears to make a High Obelisk, which is the only thing worth using now. It's pure and absolute RNG.
So basically you need to do at least a full bars worth of energy to get one High Obelisk, which will likely be useless (with a chance of being overpowered).

Biometrics are generally only used to rank up heroes.
You normally need 10 to unlock a hero, then they double for each rank so they go 20 > 40 > 80 > 160 > 320.
Each rank up makes the character stronger and unlocks new moves.
Gold is used for a large variety of things like leveling up skills, enhancing ISO-8 and a lot more.
You'll see as you play, but it's a good idea to save gold until you have a decent understanding of the system.
Crystals are the game's premium currency, they can be obtained by clearing levels for the first time, doing arena every week and clearing the daily achievements every day.
Or you can buy them.

Prior to the 1.9.5 update? You would have been fine. Now, the matchmaking is so fucked that you'll likely keep getting matched with people way above your skill level.
That said, you get the participation rewards regardless, and you still get 50 honor tokens for each match you lose, so even if you don't stand a chance at winning, it's still worth it to do all 10 rounds each day if only for the 25 daily crystals, iso-8 boosters, and 500 daily honor tokens. You will need more than 1 character to do VS especially for vs9 kingpin.
From my personal experience a 6/6/55 warmachine without cards can kill both hulk and venom in vs8, but not good enough for vs9 because of his high hit stun utility, meaning he can't do serious damage.
But his leadership is very useful to buff widow's dps and get her the help she need to kill vs9 kingpin.
Also don't even think about other speed hero other than goblin widow or Elsa, because spiderman a shit, every speed character a shit, silk is not for f2p.
6* Sharon Cartar is a cheese tho, she could 1 shot ultron in vs10-12 and has good leadership if u don't have SCD cards

After fighting Glaive and getting him to half health using gimped characters, I think the changes to raid mode are decent. It's still not super great, but it's at least semi-playable now.
As for fighting teams, I doubt it, they're hard as shit to farm and there's no way someone is going to be able to rank them up to 6* before the end of the year. I don't think.
As for gears and cards...
I'm torn on cards. I hate having them randomly drop potency, dropping all your stats by large percentages sometimes, but I like stacking effects and seeing how they evolve. They're also easy as hell to get from rifts... but they take up tons of inventory space.
Gears are in an interesting boat as I both enjoy and dislike them. They evolve, changing all stats and effects each rank up which is utter shit and have far reduced stats compared to the old gears... however they can have multiple effects, including some that proc on things which is super cool to me. I just wish they would randomly generate a new effect each rank up rather than rerolling everything every time. The fact you can't read all their stats in any window or rank them up in inventory is annoying as hell. They also seem to drop once per rift run so that's something at least.

You just need 10 bios to unlock them. Then you use any other character's biometrics to level them. Someone confirmed ~100 bios to level 40. Then you need the black anti-matter from WB mode to rank-up and the rainbow norn stones also from AB for mastery

The Black Order doesn't use their own bios for anything but unlocking. They use other characters' bios to level (rather than experience), the material that gets dropped as part of world boss to rank up, and the chaos nornstones from beating the world boss for mastery.
Because we don't know how much of the World Boss material is needed to rank up each time yet, nor do we know for sure if the chaos nornstones follow the same 30/60/90/120/150/180 costs of regular nornstones, it's hard to tell at this point how long it would take to rank them up to 60/6/6.
Either way, the restricting factor isn't the fact that you can only get 10 of their bios a week, since you only need 10 of their bios total, but the "black anti-matter."

Not really. Corvus requires having Black Widow, Deathlok, Mockingbird, Quake, and Sharon Carter at 60/6/6 to beat, none of which are meme characters. Even if you have the meme-characters, the fact that you need to spend other characters' bios to level up the black order means you'd need an excess amount of bios of 60/6/6 with 20/20/20/20 gear characters, something you're unlikely to have unless you're at a point where you've already filled out most of the roster. Plus since you can't re-use the same character in more than one WB round, having, say HB/Silk/Loki maxed out isn't really going to do you much good since that's still only 1-2 bios a day. Having OP 6* cards and OP High Obelisks are more important at this point than having maxed out meme-characters, and that shit is pure RNG.

If you use all 5 dodge ignore strikers, than that gives you 100% dodge ignore so the RNG of his dodges is no longer an issue.
Unfortunately, using all five of your strikers up on dodge ignore means you're missing out on +10% or more boosts to damage, which still makes it hard to beat him within the time-limit given the fact that you need to maximize DPS as much as you can.

Speaking of rifts, which rift level do y'all think is the best to farm now? I thought stage 5 because of 3*, but after spending hundreds of energy farming stage 5, I still have yet to get a single 3* card so it seems like it's not really worth it since the drop rate is so low. Figured stage 1 would at least give the most gears, but they rarely drop for me on stage 1 anymore so it seems like gear drop rates might scale with the level like bios do now.
Sticking to stage 2 for the time being since at least that has the possibility of getting 2* while only being 1 energy higher than stage 1 during hot time, but still not sure if that's the most efficient.

First two and the ability procs are unique to each card, so you want to pick 5 cards that you like the first two bonuses and proc on then upgrade the shit outta them and hope RNG smiles upon you.
If you get the ability proc at 5 instead of 6, it's probably not worth upgrading incase you lose it. Generally you're going to want to aim for the ability proc, since all the other stuff is too random to put faith into it appearing. RNG is never on your side.
