This is definitely one of my favorites as well. There's something about the size of the world that makes it seem way larger and more detailed when you have the W1 view. Especially in Novigrad, the buildings are just bigger for whatever reason.
I haven't played since HoS but I just checked up on mods and the W2 armor mod should be essential . Any armor that isn't witcher gear or the Redanian halberdier armor looks disgustingly bad. Such a disappointment when they added so much emphasis to loot compared to the first game, and also with the possibilities the concept art showed. W2 armor mod actually makes me want to use thing other than witcher gear.
Scabbard mod also seems like something the game should have had on release.

Is it possible to install GOG on one PC, download a game (say TW3), then transfer it to another PC? I don't mean pirating, I just mean I have 2 computers, 1 is a toaster but with a great internet connection and one is my rig but it has a shit connection. Played this when it came out (pirate) and got to the point in the story where you go to some big criminal's underground arena in Novigrad, I must have been like level 13?
Never went to Skellige either but I did a fair amount of side quests in White Orchard and in the Novigrad area.

It's not linear. You can choose the skills you want for Geralt from the sword, magic and alchemy trees. You have different choices in quests and you can RP within Geralt's predefined character. There's a bunch of stuff to do in every game and especially in TW3 with its huge maps.

I am glad CDPR recognized the chemistry between Geralt and Triss and made her the main romance in the trilogy.

I replay A Matter of Life and Death at least once a day, it is my favorite quest in the entire trilogy, I love every second of it.

I think that DAI is way better than TW3. Here's why:
- better graphics:
The DAI environments look gorgeous and are varied. In TW3 you spend 3/4 of the game wading through swamps and trying to climb ugly low-res mountains. The characters look gorgeous AND natural in DAI. Cole looks like a real teenagers, Varric has a wide nose, Cassandra looks like a model. In TW3 everyone looks like plastic mannequins and, quite frankly, just ugly (Yennefer with her constant bitch face, Triss and her wrinkled acne-riddled face, Geralt is just an old creepy dude etc).
- better characters
TW3 characters are extremely one-dimensional. Ciri is a mary sue. Yennefer is a bitch. Triss is cute waifu. Geralt is an edgelord. Dandelion is a closeted homosexual. Zoltan is bro. Meanwhile the DAI characters are 3-dimensional with desires of their own. Vivienne is ambitious and afraid of her own magical powers, which she tries to suppress and hide behind a bitchy mask. Dorian is a scholar on the run who wants to make the world a better place, while struggling with his sexuality, his relationship with his father and his future, etc.

TW3 is an extremely drawn out fetch quest until you find Ciri, the Kear Morhen battle is nice, but then it continues to be a fetch quest (gather the allies and things you need for the final battle). Compare that to the EXTREMELY varied DAI main story quests where you defend a burning village, attend a finely crafted ball, visit the future, meet a mind-reading friendly spirit, go to an ancient temple and meet thousands of years old elves, etc. Besides, you never really care for Ciri. She can take care of herself and is basically a watered-down Hawke from DA2.

The Wild Hunt is a joke. Compare that to the desire to take down Corypheus because of all the harm he's personally caused. And Coryupheus's dragon is way more badass than any of the red riders could ever be.

well, the main issue with the triss romance was that it was obviously tacked on, lacked any reactivity and barely had any content in the final act, which is something that cdpr seemed to acknowledge as well. slapping on some more half-assed lines shut up most of the waifufags, so the takeaway from this particular instance was that waifufags don't care about the quality of the content, just the quantity. however, i think the main lesson here for cdpr would be not to include waifus in the future games, but rather fully fleshed-out complex and flawed characters, like yen, and to a lesser degree tw1/tw2 triss as well. maybe i'm wrong, but non-waifus don't seem to attract as cancerous fan bases.

well, they tried something big with tw3, an open world and being a sequel to both the previous games and also the books. it was quite the monumental task so it's understandable that certain characters and storylines got streamlined in the process, otherwise the game would have ended up being convoluted. i admit they butchered triss and roche, and yen/ciri should have had more mother-daughter moments, but i didn't have much of a problem with the rest.

To be fair, creating an entirely new cast with interesting dynamics of their own is different than coming up with a cast that interacts interestingly with existing characters and themes.

It's funny because all the shit that happens in TW2 is because Triss was lying and hiding the Lodge from Geralt and sending him on the wild goose chase with his life on the line just to protect her own secrets. She also used Geralt's amnesia to enter into a relationship with him, all the while hiding Yen and Ciri's existence from him. But you're right, the writers still seem to think that she's a dindu nuffin sweetheart. I think it's the one case where the death of the author applies for sure.

I think the end credits of the games should list them all. I remember sitting through TW2 end credits the first time I played and they were really detailed, but it's been years since then so I don't remember the details.
