Minecraft for Windows 10 beta released, coded in C++.
FyberOptic ported the modloader "Meddle" to 1.9 snapshots.
1.9 Has been released, and it's buggy as all hell. Contains The End revamp, beets, YMMV new combat, witch sounds and other features. Check the wiki for more info.

Breh.
Fuck logic.
Some questions, while I'm building a modpack for a new serber (1.7.10, moderate kitchen sink).
Do I want to include RotaryCraft?
How do I make early-game advancement easier?
How do I make late-game advancement harder? (without making it into dumb grind - lots of resources required can be a thing, as long as the player can automate getting them)
Thaumcraft Minus Thaumcraft, or no?
RFTools, or no?
Who do I have to give sexual favors to to get a good nuclear mod? (Reactorcraft sucks, BigReactors sucks, IC2 is IC2...)
Should I include Blood Magic? Actually, is there any way to make BloodMagic not an overpowered piece of shit?

>>135463229
You don't need a train job to get inside a train
You just need to move to a country that has more respect for the most patrician form of transportation, and still has passenger trains
Either that or become one of those ye olde train hobos
>>135463065
That could be possible for 1.8.9, but nobody really seems to be making mods that uses moving blocks to their maximum potential.
Are there any good minecraft youtubers besides the guys who go around griefing everything?
>>135464975
Ethoslab is the only youtuber in general that I can deal with watching. He spends a fuckton of time and effort on his builds.
>>135458771
well I fucking would use something simpler but for a couple reasons I won't:
1) I want rails at standard gauge so the trains actually feel like trains instead of oversized minecarts. so, they'll occupy 3 blocks across. look up Rails of War, you'll get it.
2) ISBRH doesn't make any fucking sense. I can tell the Forge to load an obj model using TESR and it actually does it.
3) These are rails so they'll have to be smarter eventually, and blocks aren't terribly smart. but, looking at vanilla rails they use blocks just fine, so I'll have to borrow some concepts.
4) I will gladly use something simpler if you can point me to a working example or tutorial.Good fucking luck.

>Mod makers don't know how to design progression or endgame, they always just fall back to ungodly grind
Actually how SHOULD we do progression / endgame in modded Minecraft?
Bosses are meh since the combat system is shit.
Since worlds are procedurally generated, any attempt at making the player "find" a thing will just turn into grind real fast.
A pile of new tech / magic mechanics, each one requiring the last as infrastructure, seems like the way to go, but that would necessitate fuckloads of content.

if by power source you mean RF, my favourite source is non-renewable liquid fuels especially BC fuel. usually i make an array of 20 compression dynamos from TE. Other than BC fuel sometimes i use fuels made from EIO vat. But sometimes i go full autist and make my own fuels, mixing fuel with additives that increases octane rating like TEL or MMT.
I have another power setup for my alchemy lab, there is a shit tier mod called technomancy with %98 shit but has a little gem called essentia dynamo. This little fucker basically turns essentia into RF, i attach an alchemical furnace to it. This creates Mr. Fusion from the Back to the Future. When i have any excess materials dirt, cobble, saplings, seeds etc i throw em in furnace. Better than trashcans! sadly it produces only infernal amounts of RF not suitable for daily use.
>>135491438
>But sometimes i go full autist and make my own fuels, mixing fuel with additives that increases octane rating like TEL or MMT.
Do you mean you make your own fuels in MineTweaker, or what?
Is there a mod for mixing fuels with additives?
>>135492005
>jsonables for creating new liquids
>minechem for creating chemicals
>buildcraft for mixing additives with fuel
>minetweaker for binding them all
>cofh fuels.cfg for adding final fuel to combustion dynamo fuel list.
but currently minechem is a wreck and development is halted. because minetweaker support is finicky it's better to not include it. probably there are better ways of synthesizing additives.

>Cobbleworks
Is a cobblegen that requires a diamond pickaxe to make, if oyu have an RF producing mod, you can buff hte cobblegen to make sand, glass, gravel, etc in large quatities, but only if powered with RF.
>NEI (Requires code chicken core)
For looking up what can be seived, what can be composted, etc.

>Ex Nihilo
Required for fun.
>GoG3
Required for waifus.
>Placeable Tools
Lets you shift right click wooden blocks with tools to place the tool int eh block as a collidable block, letting you do things like make stairs out of swords or make a more fun looking combat training area.
>Treecapitator (Requires D3 Cores)
Makes tree farming less of a chore at midgame if you make your tree farm a checkerboard pattern and let them all grow, you can harvest huge amounts of trees form one log.

The best Mo'C config is to use Project Zulu instead.
It sounds like I'm memeing, but I'm serious. It does the same passive overworld mob stuff, except the models are better, the textures are better, and the code is better.
The only thing is that Project Zulu doesn't add as many hostile mobs, but why would you want dumb mobs like silver skeletons, anyway?

>ok, ok. Hear me. The only thing that could make a decent nuclear mod is I want nuclear pollution as a chunk based world effect. pls punish me for fucking around throwing nuclear waste in lava.
The question, I think, is "punish you how?" since Minecraft's combat is shit, so we can't take the Factorio route.
Maybe killing off all of the plants so you can't farm? Giving you an irradiated debuff? Making it so you can't respawn in the area?

>>135514203

In practice, the radiation mobs would be dumb not-zombies or dumb not-skeletons and their function would be to get 2-hit by the player's OP thaumotechnical resonant sword if the player is expecting them to be there, or annoy the shit out of people trying to build things.
I do like the idea of mutating mobs, however. Suddenly when you try to breed sheep, you get two-headed sheep-abominations with too many eyes and mandibles rather than a mammal mouth.
>>135513432
Stop the growth of sapling and seeds, make leaves decay, set a continual weakness effect in the area for a start
>>135511365
>What would you guys want out of a new nuclear mod?
A control room. All the mods I've seen focus so much on the reactor that the control mechanism is always boring.
It should look just like this, including white wool "radiation suits" like in the picture which serve as the base for the upgraded version
>>135515204
also, maybe you could add the chance that a block near the reactor would "melt" in a highly radioactive block that kill everyone near, and melt dropped items as well.
something like this. http://rarehistoricalphotos.com/the-elephant-foot-of-the-chernobyl-disaster-1986/
The blocks is indestructible and decay over... some years of gameplay? And the only hope to continue to live near is to shield it with some block, like specialized concrete, that decay and need to be replaced oftern with hazmat suit and so on.
Make it so It cannot be destroyed or removed, and it reform if deleted, and check if it's "shielded" by enoughs blocks around him.
something like 26 blocks of special concrete/lead, or a 5x5x5 cube of sand, and the sand itself is destroyed pretty fast.
>>135511365
Enrichment processes with centrifuges and laser isotope seperation

It's okay, anon, that means you still have taste.
>>135513432
Background radiation around nuclear plants is negligible
>>135516018
Meltdowns don't randomly happen for no reason.
>>135514329
Nor explosions. Chernobyl exploded because when the control rods (which were made of carbon, the Russian government knew this was a bad idea but covered it up) caused a power surge when they were activated and all the coolant instantly evaporated, the pressure of this caused the reactor to blow.
Another thing that people and mods never get is the difference between radiation and radioactive materials. Radiation is like light: it goes in a single direction in a straight line. Radiation only acts like a cloud when there are tiny particles of radioactive materials in the air, such as from a nuclear explosion.Realistic nuclear technology when?

I'm the guy who started this discussion andI already have in-world finite gas fluid flow code.
Unfortunately for fans of real-life science,it acts upon simple videogame-y rules, and doesn't respect stuff like PV=nRT. I got gas concentration to fit in metadata so these blocks don't need to be tile entities, but consequently they're pretty simple.

Here we fucking go again.
You know TC4's research would be fine if you got maybe 2-3x as many research points
I've scanned at least 80% of the items available to me and scanned nodes across thousands of square blocks and I'm still running out of primals. I think I've got most of the nonforbidden stuff down but I've got plenty of addons left to research and minor researches to buy. Pretty close to just cheating in a bunch of RP.

>>135563585
There is no set up at the moment. I had a circle track with a steam Loco with a linked tank cart, Liquid Loader with water, and an unloader
The Below the loader was a holding track/locking track.
above the unloader was a locking track
Actually, after writing all this I re-made it. Pic related.
I got the loading right, or at least it's retard proof, however, the unloading part is what gets me, I dont know how to get it to stop, unless I put the holding track after the unloader, and link some redstone to the track.
>>135566979
Actually, I took the time to actually read what one of the settings for the unloader is.

>>135568024
Holy shit, that works too. Thanks anon.
Ill probably be back with more retard questions, though.
>>135568786
Un/Loaders emit a redstone signal when whatever action they are supposed to do is fulfilled.
so an unloader emits a signal when it completely empties a tank cart, for example.
there are lots of track types to choose from and your mileage may vary with them, so try lots of things with your setup.
>>135461034
Ok, when I play with my friends it's always hard to know where they are unless I'm looking right at them, and I think that's because we can't make sounds. Is there a mod that allows a player to scream or make a sound so we could find ourselves better?

A modding community that cares. They all get together and make their mods work with each other, fix their bugs, and don't drag your computer speed down to the depths of Tartarus. Any modders who are known to cause e-drama and are beyond salvation will get cancer.

Question, should I be worried about lag with buildcraft pipes, including energy pipes?
>>135679731
depends on how many you use in the same couple chunks. if its like, giant pipe system for sorting items you might have some fps issues.
if its like, moving stuff from a box to another box to automate something tedious you have nothing to worry about. I've found BC pipes are only at their worst with fluids anyways.
>people pushing 1.9 mods
>forge causes mobs to lag horribly, they have no idea why
it's fucking 1.7.10 all over again. maybe skyboy will fix the problem and lex can take the credit again.
About how long would it be until 1.9 modded mc is the norm?
>>135683982
Hopefully only after the "final" 1.9 version comes out. 1.9 is at the same state (or even worse) as 1.8 and 1.7.2, some broken piece of shit that people update only to go I DID IT REDDIT! while complaining that people won't let go of the good version.
>>135683982
Not long i presume, I'm snooping through the code and I'm not seeing any massive changes from 1.8.9 to 1.9. It's mostly just methods being renamed and an extra event and enum attached to items for which hand does a thing.
I think that installing Veinminer on a skyblock was bad idea in hindsight.

Never mind.
I've seen several reports of servers that use modpacks with Choco Quest suffering from lag issues and requesting to remove it from those modpacks. In my own perspective, the modpack I built with CQ (and other mods that may also contribute to the lag) runs worse than a modpack with more mods (i.e., based on the "x mods loaded" message on the title screen).
So anyone has ideas on which mod to replace the exploration aspect brought by Choco Quest? The next best thing I'm thinking is Roguelike Dungeons, but I've seen people comment that it's also a laggy piece of shit.
>>135699634
It's kind of boring after the first one you explore. Sure it's procedurally generated, but there are only so many combinations room+hallway. They also tend to shit up the underground in prime building locations.
>>135700584
I'm looking into Ruins. Does that mod have dungeon-like structures unlike Recurrent Complex? I already have RC, by the way, and I don't have any issues for it.
>>135700745
Yeah, not huge ones but they get the job done.
>>135700802
It's a decent tradeoff. I suspect that the scripts used to control mob behavior and other stuff are causing the FPS to tank.
>>135700982
While were talking about exploration/dungeon mods I'd like to suggest shipwrecks. It adds quite a few different types of mini dungeon shipwrecks to loot.
>>135700982
Roguelike Dungeons doesn't use any scripts, all it does is generate mob spawners and abuse their NBT data or something to give mobs random armor and weapons.
Doomlike Dungeons might be interesting as well.

Maybe vanilla is ripping off of one of the hundreds of other games that have this feature.
What is the proper progression flowchart or something like that if you want to "complete" Minecraft? As in do everything the game has to offer. Something like
1. punching wood
2. wooden tools
3. stone tools
4. shelter
5. exploring caves/mining
6. iron and iron tools
7. etc.
Or is there such a guide somewhere out there that would lead me from punching trees to enchanting, nether, potion making and eventually the end?
is it just me or are the vast majority of builds people make ugly as sin? I watch YouTube videos and these people just have giant rooms full of machines and that's it, there's no theme, no atmosphere, it's just machines.

2. Punch wood
3. Put wood in crafting grid in inventory to make crafting bench.
4. Make wooden sword, wooden pickaxe, wooden hoe
5. Break grass until you get at least three wheat seeds, hoe dirt next to water, plant wheat
6. Use wooden pickaxe to mine 14 cobblestone
7. Make a furnace, craft stone axe and pickaxe, make torches by turning some logs into planks and burning logs using the planks as fuel
8. Build a portal by crafting a bucket out of three iron ingots and pouring lava source blocks into the shape of a 4x5 portal (and pouring water over it).
9. Ignite inside edge of portal with flint and steel
10. Enter portal, seek closest nether fortress, loot diamonds from fortress chests, kill blazes until you have two or three blaze rods
11. Craft enchanting table / brewing stand with blaze rods, but keep one rod in reserve for making blaze powder
12. Kill an enderman for an ender pearl, mix pearl with powder to get eye of ender
13. "Throw" the eye and follow it, repeat until you reach the x,z coordinates of a stronghold
14. Dig down into stronghold, receive ender portal
15. Go back to the nether, harvest the amount of blaze rods you need to make the eyes to finish the ender portal
16. Enter ender portal, kill the dragon with a bow, congrats you've beaten the game
17. Optional boss: You need a sword with looting enchantment on it to go hunt down wither skeletons in the Nether for the skulls to make the object that summons the Wither.

>>135742726
The power network algorithm never changed, as I explained a few days back. All that's changed is that (a) lossy power is now a config option and (b) pulses are no longer a thing, however (b) is entirely related to the machines and not the pipes.
The pulse-based power? I looked into ways in which it could be useful for gameplay, and I felt all were kind of forced and gimmicky so I scrapped it.
Right now I'm working on a lot of actual mechanic overhauls for BuildCraft 8, so that's when you might be able to judge if the mod's getting worse or better. Today, I worked on item pipes!

* First of all, coremods did not exist, and almost every major mod now relies on a coremod for one reason or another. While coremods are hacks, they're still more reliable than bundling patched .class files with your mod - they prevent conflicts on the file level.
* The sound APIs were nowhere near as fleshed out as they are now.
* The texture sheet registration was a massive hackjob only really fixed in 1.5.
* The client/server split was not as terrifying as some said, but it was an annoyance and caused the majority of mods to not have SMP releases at all. Of course, singleplayer-only players probably enjoyed that more, but hey - can't have everything.
* A lot of the Forge APIs were worse. No event bus, instead we had hard-coded handlers. There was no official fluid API, the primary one was provided by BuildCraft and a bit horrifying. One interesting thing I just spotted is that the Ore Dictionary works more or less like it used to in 1.2.5.
* There were no ISimpleBlockRenderingHandlers! Looking at BuildCraft 2.2, all custom rendering either relied on Mojang's built-in models or TESRs.

Possible meaning possible or possible meaning the effort outweighing feasibility? Because if it's the latter, every major mod, but if it's the former, you're a fucking retard for even asking.
>>135764305
Obviously including the case of effort outweighing feasibility - a lot of effort is involved in backporting engine/API features, whereas the feasibility is much lower than just fixing gameplay changes in a newer version while keeping the engine/API's - let's face it - net improvements.

Go get three villagers.
Put one on a floating platform, enclose him with slabs and put five doors nearby.

This will create a lag-inducing villager generator, especially if put within spawn chunks.

Somehow Forge has managed to crash the everlovingfuck out of Minecraft in almost every way imaginable. The Forge team is trying to blame Mojang as usual even though vanilla is pretty stable. Yet people are still releasing 1.9 mods as fast as they can crap them out. God help us.

>>135769083
If you're willing to invest the effort to make 1.2.5 have engine feature parity with 1.7.10 or 1.9, you probably should consider doing so already instead of complaining about it. I mean, look at FyberOptic - he made a modded version of alpha 1.2.6 just because he felt like it.
>>135811012
It's very easy to port mods from 1.8.9 to 1.9 (think 1.5 -> 1.6 level difficulty), so everyone's now rushing to claim "FIRST POST!", because races like that are, relatively to a lot of the other parts of modding, exciting and fun.
>>135809475
I'm not worried.
Just look at the list of mods available for 1.9: the usual baby's first mod stuff -- all blocks, no mechanics. Going by 1.8.9's pace we'll start seeing some real mods in six months.
>>135811286
RFTools has an almost complete port, Pressure Pipes is out, TechReborn is out. All are slightly buggy, but I don't think it's about porting difficulty, it's just that a lot of the big mods either want to finish porting to 1.8.9 first or wait for a stable 1.9.x release.

>>135809475
And I bet that, for the third time in a row, Forge will stay on the broken 1.9 release while ignoring all the possible bugfix releases that come out for that version until the "last" version comes out. And all that while some people keep insisting that 1.9 is master race trying to get everyone to update their mods and denying the presence of any bug.

I based the design on the fact that pure stone buildings are hard to build in real life, so I assumed they would use lighter materials (aka wood) for the higher levels.
It also makes sense to use cobblestone as a foundation due to it's higher blast resistance. So a stone foundation would offer better protection to creepers than a pure wooden building

I honestly have no idea. My golems will randomly stand on the jar next to the one its suppose to be filling and just spin on it for 5 minutes at a time. Fucking annoying when I push it off and goes right back to it.
>That feel when you find a colossal network of abandoned mine, ravine and caverns below your own fucking house
>That feel when your neighbor didn't know about it either
>That feel when there's enough shit in the entire clusterfuck to keep you both self-sufficient for a long time
I only wish TrainSerb admin could see it. There's so much of everything..
Wow, the server list looks bleak now that the deadwood has been cleared out.

Maybe they were trying to keep in line with material costs for other popular mods in terms of length. It's pretty cheap to run a copper wire for a long distance, not so much for a fluduct or something
>>135890025
I once played on a pvp server with a friend. We hid away on a tiny island in the middle of endless ocean, and stumbled upon a cave system. We logged on daily for literally months, and we never explored the whole thing. We were at some points over 800 blocks away from our house and the caves just kept going.
Eventually we quit, but I left a sign for anyone who might find our island telling them that they must continue our quest to map the mines.

Speaking of copper wire
>copper wire can handle 2k rf/t
>copper wire can only connect two lv connectors
>lv wire connectors have 256rf i/o maximum
>>135881749
Unrelated but isn't vazkii one of those transgenders?
>>135893241
LV wire: 2048
MV wire: 8096
HV wire: 32768
LV connector: 256
MV connector: 1024
HV connector: 4096
This can't be an accident, what is the point of this?

dead game dead thread

hello mcg, it's been awhile,
server I play on moved on to 1.9, and with that my inventory mods that helped a bunch mass craft items diedalong with 90% of the farms on the server, sending the whole server's naturally formed economy to hell
set up MC so long ago I forgot, think it was fml, forge and... too many items?
is there anything 1.9 compatible yet that helps a bunch with inventory and crafting?
any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I just did some tests. While the connectors can only input and output that amount to machines, they transfer the full wire amount. Thus the box on the right charged exactly 3 times faster than on the left, here.
can anyone confirm if this is notch??

Tell your server owner to not be an idiot.
>>135906056
I'm quite okay with 1.9, it's a refreshing change of pace, as for the farms, we'll rebuild them, we will persevere.
>replacing every single texture for basemetals
Send help, the tediousness is killing me.

is there anything in this pack that requires Java 8?
>>135912274
Looking at the crash report, it seems Better Foliage requires Java 8. Luckily, it's a clientside mod so you can cleanly remove it without any problems.
Is there a reason you don't want to/can't use Java 8, though?
>>135908835
What are you replacing them with? It seems like it has the best looking ingots available on 1.8.9 at the moment.
>>135908835
You're doing god's work, son.
I need to visit Tcon's github and tell them to add support for it already

I couldn't drink from any water sources after I rerolled out of a dry biome for easier clay access. What.
Most of the water was flowing thanks to Streams but I couldn't even drink from pondwater.
How much did Tcon change since mDiyo stopped working on it? I quit Minecraft when exosuits were in alpha.
>>135914375
Were you standing in it?
>>135914513
I didn't have to stand in it in my first world, I could just right-click drink from the shore. But yeah, I read something about standing in it and tried that and it still didn't work.
>>135914960
The water you are standing in needs to be touching two other source blocks, so maybe try wading deeper. It could also be saltwater or spring water that's keeping you from drinking.
Goodbye sweet thread.

can I get off on your ass instead?
>>135915257
That'd be easier to figure out if I knew what water sources were "salt" or "spring" since I was able to drink out of a bit of water in my first world that was surrounded by seaweed with no cattails anywhere. For all I know it could be checkerboarded fresh and salt just to fuck with me.
