What makes a good Sonic level? Variety, speed or clever platforming? A mix of all three?
That Bunnyhop video got me thinking, and the best levels I've played were the ones where I had to think about when to go fast.

Platforming that allows the player to progress quickly if they time their jumps (and other abilities if applicable) properly instead of forcing them to wait for moving platforms. Branching paths that adhere to the "harder path = faster, easier path = slower" principle. My personal preference is for a Sonic level to follow two "Rules of 3": there should be at least 3 branching paths, and each path should increase the time to finish the level by around 3 minutes (for example, doing the quickest path should take 3 minutes, middle path 6 minutes, slowest path 9 minutes) although I know a lot of people will think that's too long.
