You can replay those missions and potentially get higher ranked versions of those characters. Also if you run a couple of missions with them you can level them up. I know I have an S Rank bionics guy.

'Snake Tales' (which is what I now call modded MGSV, in honor of the Snake Tales missions that saved MGS2's story and-bait-and-switch character, but relied on the still excellent gameplay to entice the player) has completely altered my liking and perception.
Forget about Kojima, forget about the abandoned story. And just enjoy the Fox engine and open world gameplay of MGSV to its near full potential, with your own ever evolving and random missions, using whatever head canon you want. I don't know, I've found it pretty helpful when you do have a shot. Namely, when you get spotted by some sniper on the opposite side of the platform or on a different platform, I've been able to keep from getting the alert by headshotting the guy before he can call his buddies up.

MGO is bad, but I still think it'd be better if the rewards you got for winning a round or something was in GMP and resources and stuff you could take back to your own MB, give you another revenue stream outside of FOBs or free roam.
Even with MGO as it is, I think it'd go over better if MGO was giving you a chance to play out those combat deployments you send your staff out on, allowing you to take control of a staff member and see what he/she does out in the field when Snake deploys them.
