What graphics settings have you found to be the best balance between Performance and Looks in Attila?

I have a 760 and I'm just wondering if others have already done the testing. The only way I'm gonna get 60fps is with all low, so I'm looking to make some compromises.

>Sassanid Empire is a thing
>A faction named Persia is in the game

Nothing wrong with that at all. "Persian Empire" is like calling the Netherlands "Holland", or all of Great Britain as "England".

Persia is just one small part of Iran, which is what most Iranian empires have called themselves. The language of the Achaemenid and Sassanid empires came from Persia proper, but the whole foundation of it as an empire was the unification of Persia with the other Iranian regions.

So, having Persia revolt is no worse than having Italia revolt in the WRE. Literally the only difference is that we're not used to calling the Roman Empire the Italian Empire.

Many famous people throughout history were pretty inbred by modern standards, given that marrying outside of your family could have serious political implications for both parties, marrying a cousin was a safe option if you couldn't find a potential spouse elsewhere that wouldn't upset the balance of power.

So I'm currently doing a campaign as Venedians, I hold the 3 provinces in pic related. It's currently 407 AD, I'm not at war with anyone and the huns are friendly due to my tribute of food.
Currently, I'm focusing on building my provinces (or rebuilding in the previously razed ones) and unsure of what to do next. I figured I'd just expand further toward the east and take the wood from that province, then south toward Dacia after the nomads are done with it?
I'm kinda afraid I might be stretching my forces to thin.
>>
>>135101508
It doubles your chance of birth defects relative to the general population from 2% to 4%. It's significant but not catastrophic.

Over successive generations it can become more of an issue, particularly in regards to child mortality rates, but luckily most human societies, and thus their nobolities, don't last that many generations and there will always be that one dark horse who marries a pleb or barbar slave girl.

Remember kids, if you ever become the overlord of an empire, encourage your nobles to Blanda Upp.
>>
Who are the Venedians ancestors to?
>>
>>135102278
Germans, Poles, Lithuanians, everyone in that general region. It's been more than a millennia, trying to pin ancestry to one particular group is pretty pointless.

Speaking of increasing fertility, did anyone ever make a mod that lets aquiducts and qanats increase fertility? It'd also be great if there was a mod that somehow negated the climate penalties for the far south, or at least the Nile and Mesopotamia. Maybe a modifier that boosts fertility, and increases every time that the climate gets worse? A shame you can't just exempt provinces from climate change.

It begins. I learned from my first failed Island Slav run that it'll take you twice as long as the migration to be able to support two full stacks of anything but the shittiest levies.

So, our High King Darko's fateful decree is not as crazy as it could have been. We will leave our homes intact, and leave behind a sufficient garrison force to protect them... however, the King has received visions from Perun:

"Beyond the Huns' anger and destruction, there will be a world for the taking. Our World!"

He insists on gathering up as large an army as possible, and setting out to find a distant Promised Land, safe from the Huns. When asked where we could flee that would truly be beyond the reach of the Huns, he simply pointed his finger to the South.

Darko says that he shall never return to the verdant fields of Europe, and that, some day, he shall call upon the rest of his people to join him. The people are bewildered by this seeming insanity. However, there is no mass rebellion, as the nobles of the realm see a good chance to take over for themselves. A man named Porgo, young and bold, takes it upon himself to lead the defense of the Venedian homeland.

There shall be difficult days ahead...

Public order goes down the drain, rebels everywhere, get raided, cant defend due to war weariness ---> cycle continues, what happens when it hits 100%?
Im at 53% and my units start the battle already shaking, I mean I know I technically have some frenchmen with me but this is getting ridicolous.

I lost the battle and my heir, and decided to just reload to the turn before instead of restarting the entire campaign again. I don't give a fuck about scrubbery at this point, I'm just trying to get enough money to support a migration south.

Scared of our time powers, the Roxolanians decline to declare war a second time, but the Geats, zealous protectors of the space-time continuum, declare war on us in their stead.

It's interesting. Turn 1 I moved my faction leader and his son to the sea and moved all the way to Britain. After I took care of the White Hun shitters I disbanded all my armies in the East and let it sit. For some reason the AI loves me however and my satraps all played nice with each other and goon-squaded any naysayers. Additionally the ERE has barely been touched and they have not declared war or anything.

Meanwhile I took Britain and camped until I got elephants and all the fun cav and naft throwers. Then I started removing Barbars. Their spear spam is annoying, but the AI can only do so much against a stack of 17 cataphracts and 2 elephants.

For a long time, you'll want at least a few yari kachi units waiting behind your gun line.

Sometimes, the enemy WILL get off a cavalry or even melee infantry charge, and then you want some dedicated melee infantry of your own to hold them off. They're also good for being the first over the wall in sieges.

If it's anything like Attila, it isn't really important unless you want to invade an enemy who has a full fleet. They're really useful against enemies who are trying to invade you across the sea, however, because you can easily take out a normal embarked army with a full navy.

>>135120645

Things are looking up. We outran all our enemies, and have been moving fast enough that our tresspasses haven't yet created any new ones.

Indeed, after a long journey of many years, through harsh steppe and harsher mountains, the Venedian people have finally arrived in the promised land - the Fertile Crescent.

But we cannot settle just yet - there is rumor of a magical dam still further to the south, which has been blessed by Mokosh. How else could it turn desert into Paradise, and grant its masters bountiful harvests throughout their empire?

So, onward, brave Venedi! Our journey is almost at an end!

Not all that important except for two things.
Guarding your armies when they're at sea and taking out enemy armies at sea.
Tiny navies are fully capable of taking out full stack armies in transports.

I usually go with 4-6 artillery ships, 6-8 missile ships and then a few melee ships to run interfernce/ram enemy ships.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammer_and_anvil

The hammer and anvil is a relatively simple maneuver. It begins with two infantry forces of varying strengths engaging in a frontal assault. While the infantry lines are fixed in the engagement, a cavalry force maneuvers around the enemy and attacks from behind, sandwiching it into the friendly infantry. Generally, the force attempting the maneuver needs to have a superior amount of cavalry to be successful.
>>
>>135133093
what the fuck
>>
>>135133093
Right, here's the deal.
Get lots of spearmen or anyone with a shield.
Put them in front.
Fill the rest with archers. Sometimes send a few in front of shield guys for extra range. Retreat them behind infantry when the enemy get's too close.
Have 4 cav, 2 on each side. When the enemy touches your guys, swing them around and hit them in their backs. Have your archers do nothing while this happens.
As for M2. If you have more firepower than the enemy, even if you engage the battle, they will come to you. I guess the AI's rationing is that they don't want you to stand there and pick them off. So you're going to do just that. Have more archers than the enemy. Stand on a hill, make sure they aren't all targeting the first fucking peasant bowman that comes within their range, and just stand still until they touch your infantry.

What are you talking about?

Actually, here's just your standard army. 9 spear militia 4 or 5 bowmen of some sort, I actually rather like peasant bowmen, they're cheap as fuck and you don't really give a damn if they take enemy return fire.
And leave space for mercenary spearmen when you encounter an enemy army that's actually decent. Your general is all you really need for cav. If you hit one flank with him you can cause a chain rout pretty well.

Germanic crossbowmen or hunters?

There is not really a point of using cavalry in Shogun 2 and in Rome 2 theyre great so fuck off.
In Shogun 2 im replaying as Oda atm and all im doing is set up and support a spearwall that makes even Samurai rout after 20 seconds of fighting, so there is no point to rearcharge them since the fights are so short.
I only use the generals to hunt down routing units.
The frontlines collapse so fast due to the high mortality that cavalry isnt necessary.

If you're talking about A'far Swordsman or whatever the Aksum unit is, it is because of three things.

1) The sword unit has a fear bonus against everyone
2) swords > spears
3) Charge bonus, too.

The game crashed and a streamer I like came on, so I gave up for the night.

There's a small chance I may come on to finish the battle later, but it'll probably have to wait for tomorrow.

First, if you're just playing it for the campaign with autoresolving, go play Paradox games. If you've made it 250 hours playing M2 as a simplistic grand strategy game (which is what the campaign is), you'll love the fuck out of Crusader Kings II.

Second, it's easy as fuck to win battles in Attila. If you've got 75 hours in it, I think you're good enough to manage the WRE on normal/hard.

WRE is piss-easy to play as, because your infantry are better than anyone elses. Abandon everything outside of Italy (don't need to raze it - just abandon it and let the AI conquer it over time), then concentrate all of your armies around northern Italy.

Your main army should be 10-12 infantry, 2-4 archers/xbowmen, 4 cavalry, and an onager. This basic template works for almost every army you can play, and against most enemies. Just make the infantry line out of the toughest units you can afford, preferably with shieldwall or spearwall or testudo.

Next post will detail how to win battles in Attila.

how the hell am I supposed to know if TROM3 is working properly without getting halfway into a game

Again, it's because of their insane charge bonus and the fact that they have a fear aura around them that makes their enemies want to run. Use your axe units instead.

Well, uh, first of all, the main Shogun 2 menu will have TROM3 right in the middle, where Shogun 2's title would be. When you start a campaign, you should start with a unit that looks like a katana samurai, but is named differently.

This is a lot of words, if you don't want to read it, I'll make a really short tl;dr at the end.

Most enemy armies will look roughly like what I told you to build above. Roman armies will have more infantry and less archers and cav, and barbars will also tend to have less cav.

You start a battle by forming a line out of your melee infantry. You never want the line to be less than 3 men thick, but aside from that, you want it to be as wide as possible. If these infantry have the shieldwall, spearwall, testudo, or pikewall abilities, use them, but remember that these abilities make a unit bunch up, and this will reduce the thickness of the line. So, if you don't start the battle with your men in one of these formations, leave them 4-5 men thick so they keep a good thickness in shieldwall or etc. Picrelated.

When the battle actually starts, and you see how wide the enemy's line is, adjust the length of your line. You want to make sure that your line is at least as thick as the enemy line. If that's not possible, then have the infantry units at either side of your line bend back a bit, so that your line looks like a trapezoid without a bottom. After this, you can forget about them.

Place archers in front of the line. When the enemy gets close, run them behind the line. If they're crossbowmen, turn off free fire, because otherwise they'll shoot into the backs of your men and kill them. Make sure to get your archers behind quickly if the enemy tries to charge them with cavalry - this is common, but stupid, because it usually ends with their cavalry chasing your archers into your main infantry line, which gets them killed.

Dealing with cavalry next.
