You know, I used to think this was one of the best generals in the board, but recently I've come to realize it's actually pretty awful.
I mean, most the threads eventually devolve into meta shitstorms halfway through. There's more discussions about what is or isn't a roguelike, whether Crawl is shit or not/when it became shit, if paid roguelikes are still roguelikes, memes etc etc. than there's actual on-topic posting.
Just say the phrase "not a roguelike" in reference to any popular game that's widely agreed to be a roguelike and you have a very high chance of succesfully derailing the thread for an hour or two.
We may not have many shitposters but we sure as fuck have the nastiest ones. They are largely not ironic and they legitimately believe they help preserve the general's quality while simultaneously shitting it up. The best example of this is ponyposter samefagging one of the aformentioned meta shitstorms into the world and then melting down by spamming pony porn all over the pĺace when someone mentioned Qud.
The ones that ARE ironic seem to never actually talk about roguelikes.

I increased the grass generation for testing purposes -- usually the fields are much smaller and further between. Normal ground has a 3% chance to catch fire, flattened grass has a 20% chance, and tall grass has a 40% chance. Ash and water have a 0% chance.
I do plan on implementing consumables that will let you cause fires. I also plan on creating monster abilities that let them use fire attacks somehow.
Some of the artifact abilities I'm considering to put in the game (it's gear-driven, with 3 equipment slots that have randomly generated passive effects that you can upgrade with gold to unlock) are immunity to fire and items do not get destroyed by fire.

You can adjust the difficulty on the fly and it'll take effect in new spawns and newly generated chunks. So you can give yourself a town and a week or two to get your feet under you as higher monster evolution starts ramping up then start increasing the spawn rates every other season or something.

By the way, examine with a shovel to clear all the rubble then hit /, F nail, hit enter to filter on nail, hit A to select all adjacent, set the destination pane to your inventory with I then use ',' to move all nails in the surrounding 9 tiles to your inventory. It makes hoovering them up much less arthritic.
Land mines, booby traps, and grenades with gasoline are a popular use. Once you find a nail gun, a nail gun and a nail rifle are cheap training. Remember to take focus books that day so you keep making progress. Like the others said, a carpet of caltrops makes life easy.

I'd say that cowardice isn't that bad as long as you know how to bait enemies and abuse LoS, but if you get surrounded it's REALLY bad
Sacrificing both dodging and armour is a very stupid idea unless you're a troll, the huge size and natural AC+robust+regen make up for it when you start getting Ru's redirects and stuns
Bad apt is really fucking annoying on a race with low apts, having everything negative has it take a lot longer to skill up shit
As for the abilities, the healing one is good in a pinch if you haven't gotten the other two yet. About a quarter/two fifths of your health and mana is more than a HW pot would give on a big race.
The jump is...weird. The damage is rarely worth it, you should use it for running away or for killing fodder when approaching. Never used it much
Apocalipse is completely broken. About twice the damage of a good Slouch, regardless of enemy speed, and it's unavoidable. Use it once and you've cleared Orc if your LoS is good. The draining is basically nothing, it's the same as getting hit by a wight twice

+9 Battleaxe of Chopping is super legit, especially if you want to go all in on shields for a large shield. You can even rebrand it, and the chances of you finding something better are pretty slim. Is this a bug or something but sometimes when I use the mouse in DCSS it does a double click. Only happens in DCSS other vidya other mouse usage doesn't double click.
Playing a smithy Naugrim (of Nogrod) for the first time in Sil. What are the two best freebie Smithing abilities to take, and what are the 3 best things to make at the 100' forge? Here's what I can afford:

An early mattock could be fun, and I haven't found an axe yet. But should I go battle axe or great axe? (No shield yet.)

I could just use up the forge to kit myself out with basic protective gear and save the other free ability for a deeper forge, once I see the need for a particular resistance that random drops aren't giving me.

3 empty jewelry slots at 100', three minor stat boosts for very little investment. Or I could make a Horn of Terror or Warning. Those can be fun. Not like I'm using my Voice for anything else right now.

No idea but search around on the forums. There's some stuff for smithing even if it's a bit outdated. You can make a chart of what item can get what ench and what artifact property. It helps when you know how much those +1,2,3 forge gloves are, the +1 grace circlet, the +1 grace amulet and light, the +3 smithing war hammer and +3 smithing war hammer of accompaniment, artifacts with masterpiece and jeweler, common resists with both evasion, protection and melee boosts like a dwarf mask.

You can go weaponsmith+enchantment to kit a greatspear+longbow of gondolin and glaive (defender).
Tons of options with armoursmith. Artistry for doublefine helm/round shield/leather. Enchantment for gloves of the forge <+2> and a cloak of protection and shield of deflection or boots of running. This branches very well into grabbing jewelry and making 2x Accuracy rings at your next forge.
Jewelry only gets good at 13 points imo, which allows crafting of the aforementioned +2 accuracy rings, or +2 evasion rings. A great thing to craft early is a +0 amulet of the blessed realm. Other breakpoints for jewelry are 15(+1 stat amulets) 16(feanorian lamp of brightness) and 18(+1 stat rings).
I think I got that right. I played about 50 Naugrim Nogrod and they were all suffering. Enjoy!

You can gamble on the chance for an ego hat/gloves, Shield/LShield of resist or reflection or a not shit artifact. You can gamble on a haste wand. Rod probably wont do dick for you at this point.
