Star Fury makes little shiny stars that explode downward on impact and fall through terrain, illuminating the dark spots.

Yes. This is mainly an issue with bosses and other large knockback resistant enemies. With normal enemies, even if you have to get in their faces you can still at prevent them from hitting you by knocking them back. Bigger mobs? Better resign yourself to taking damage if you want to melee with an actually melee ranged weapon.

It helps, but it doesn't solve the problem of you being right next to an enemy who only has to move an inch to damage you. Unfortunately, the only way I'd imagine to fix the solution is to actually give mobs move sets. I'll reserve judgement on that mod until I actually play it though. It certainly sounds like an improvement.

The issue isn't touch damage in general. A distinct charge having touch damage is fine. The problem is that even if they aren't charging, touching them still hurts. And I'm not sure there's any boss whose entire kit is just charging. Even Eye spits out lil minions from time to time.

How about when using melee weapons or melee related armor, the enemy hitbox needed to hit you is made smaller compared to the original?
This allows for touch damage still but also lets you stay more close without getting ass ravaged unlike mage/ranged
or perhaps a mechanic that lets you block/evade a certain amount of touch damages every 10 seconds or so?

The problem is not having any block or dodge button. Touch damage is just another way of doing things.
I prefer having enemies execute attacks with proper hitboxes rather than having damage on contact, but oh well. The issue isn't the method itself, but how they implement it.

It was one of the most satisfying moments I experienced in gaming. I wasn't even getting hit a lot after some time.
But the mod had some rage-inducing moments, too. It's fun, but unbalanced IMO with a roller coaster difficulty spike.

I passed that part of the game and then moved my world over to another computer, I had lots of early game achievements left over and I've yet to get around to that one.

It's a challenge, and I think every run has to have some leeway to use something not your main weapon. It's like when I run New Vegas for a specialty run. if I do 9mm pistols, then I start with them at the beginning of the game, but if I do something like explosives I can use a melee weapon or unarmed until I get reliable amounts of explosives.
If you focus on using alternate weapons it's fine, being a "trapper" would mean not even using throwing weapons which I thought should work, like throwing shuriken.

Oh now there's an idea. Maybe some proximity traps based on how the landmine functions. Maybe an early game one would be a simple bear trap that does some damage and holds the enemy still for a bit. Another one releases a burst of armor corroding poison, maybe. A higher end one explodes in an icy burst to freeze enemies in an area briefly.
And of course, we can't expand on a weapon type without adding a completely extraneous armor set to go with it, can we? The set'll boost trap damage, and maybe have a coon skin hat.

I'd like to set up some kind of farm for the Mechanical Boss summoning items. I know they won't drop if you've beaten that boss on that wolrd before, so I was thinking of making a new world, rushing the Wall of Flesh, then setting up a big empty space for enemies to run at me while my minions AFK kill them
Which biome would be the best for this? Maybe a place with just melee oriented enemies so they can't fire arrows like skeleton archers, or when it gets night the Gastropods won't laser me to death.

Why farm for those when you can just farm for the items you use to craft them, which are much easier to come by? The only ingredients that you'd probably need to farm for are souls and maybe rotten flesh/vertebrae. Just set up a farm in the cavern layer of the Corruption/Crimson. All the other ingredients I always have lying around in large amounts: lenses, iron, bone.
Servers back up, come hang out and slay some demons, new characters preferred, you can get gear near spawn.

I just try to make a house out of one type theme each. Early on I do one of each kind of wood, my house is always plain regular wood. Before hardmode I try to have crimson/corruption theme, dungeon theme, I always throw a bee/hive out in the jungle for the tiki guy.
