The SP campaigns in EE are so bullshit that computer need to cheat.

I witnessed 8 tanks getting killed by enemy two, when they stopped firing back - standing at higher ground, having their "cycles" above head filled and then nothing. With no line of sight break.

At least I managed to do this stupid Able Archer in full. But ammount of rng with hunting helis with missiles was too much.

They are just very hard but not impossible. If you would find it too much, you can donwgrade, which removes portion of AI cheating (yes, Eugene decided at some point to improve AI and make it harder but that made SP campaigns unbalanced but Eugene dont care about SP at all).

"Not impossible" except for that optional objective at Evacuation.

IMO you should: Ditch the AS 332 in favour of more trucks or points elsewhere

Get rid of the FSK for cheap fire support Eryx

Ditch either the NASAMS or the Hawk and grab Amos instead, consider getting some cheaper AA

Maybe get the IKV 103 or a Tow 2 carrier in the vehicle tab, and maybe get the SK 60B in the air tab

Not to mention that tanks blowing up recon inf hidden in forrest, when it should have no chance to spot them. Tanks blowing them from nowhere, of course, since tanks with poor optics surely will spot infrantry hidden in forrest with very good optics.

And that recon vehicles that need to be ordered to stay every 5 minutes or it will decide to go somewhere for no reason.

I guess somebody at Eugene said "guys, players still manage to win SP campaigns, even when we made AI cheats, lets make their units randomly stop shooting or being unable to spot from few meters distance or we risk people having FUN with our games".

There is no thing such as "unseen" in EE single player. If the AI has LOS on something they can fire on it.

so the flashing unit marker means nothing when a unit is in cover?

Last time I tried attacking two Mi-24 with 4 Havoc, all 4 suffered aim system failture from enemy fire right from the bat, then all 4 died. Naturally, enemy Mi-24 were perfectly fine.

They learned their lesson from WW2, the way to make territorial gains quickly without massive casualties is through overwhelming firepower, since it's far cheaper to mass artillery than airpower they focused on that.

I remember I read Field Marshal Rammstein's memoirs and he was talking about artillery in WW2. The siege of Sevastopol which he commanded saw the largest build-up of German artillery in the war, 20 heavy guns for every kilometer of front. Compare this to the Soviets in 1945 who massed 400(!) guns for every kilometer of front.

It's battlefield doctrine that works pretty well today, look at the war in Ukraine, the overwhelming number of casualties on both sides is from artillery.

your infantry is way too fucking expensive. In the case of Motostrelki, you're paying for the transport more than the unit, but at the same time, you want quantity as well. Keep 1 card of BMP-3s, take another in the grenade launcher BMP-1 or MTLB. You might want a card of Spetz.

replace a card of Strela-10s for TORs or preferably the less expensive Tunguska.

Tanks are okay, I'd personally take some T-64BMs

Replace GRU with BRDM-3. If you like cheap disposable recce, get the BRDM-2.

Rest checks out alright.

Consider dropping the supply helicopter, they don't synergize that well with a fob and supply trucks.

Motostrelki '90 are pretty bad. The BMP-3 is awesome though, so bring at least one card of them in the BMP-3. Consider Spetsnaz, they have napalm launchers that make good work of enemy infantry, and VDV '90 who have an amazing RPG.

Supply looks ok, play around with the Nona and Vasilek and see which one you like more. The cool thing about the Vasilek is that it blows it's entire load at once on very short notice which makes it hard for the enemy to avoid it.

So some things

> unless you have cluster artillery or howitzers, you don't need a FOB. You have none of the above, and mortars carry a huge amount of ammo base.
>Strela-10M is an awful unit. Furthermore it fulfills no role in your deck. What does it do that a Tunguska does not do better? A single Tunguska will outkill two Strela-10M's.
>Subpar picks in the tank section. The OP tank right now is T-64BM, which can replace T-72BI and T-64BV in your deck. Also take as many superheavies as you can, bring both cards of T-80UM and T-72BU.
> Having a ground recon unit is important because they can keep up with your tanks in a push and keep spotting, which infantry can't keep up and helicopter recon is too easy to kill. Drop one of the GRU's for a BRDM-3. They also make great skirmishing units.
> Su-122-54 was recently nerfed, not a great unit anymore. Bring the Zhalo instead.

ok

I don't know how much you know about wargame's config structure, but I opened the two TAmmunition instances that represent the early 2A42 autocannon in an earlier version of wargame (v639). On the left is the AP ammunition, on the right is the HE. The accuracy of weapons in wargame is defined through their ammunition, by pointing to another instance in TModernWarfareHitrollRules that contains the accuracy numbers. I've opened the hitroll instances for both weapons and you'll see that the AP's accuracy is 0.15 while HE's is 0.25.

The pre-patch BMP-2 only had 15% accuracy when shooting at armored targets. Against soft targets its accuracy was 25%.

In the recent patch, Eugen set both those values to 0.2.

Mind you, this isn't an attack on Eugen, I just thought it funny that everyone says how much the BMP-2 kicks ass against infantry now, when in fact it's worse than it used to be. It's almost like a placebo effect.

The Chaparral's AIM-9D missiles were capable of tail-chase launches only, but offered ranges up to 5 miles. Also using an all-optical firing system, the Chaparral nevertheless required the operator to "settle" the missiles on the target for a period of time to allow them to lock on, limiting its ability to deal with quickly moving targets. Both vehicles were optionally supported by the AN/MPQ-49 Forward Area Alerting Radar (FAAR), but this system was towed by the Gama Goat and could not be used near the front lines.[5] The pair of weapons was, at best, a nuisance to the enemy and had limited performance against modern aircraft.

Unlike fixed-wing aircraft, attack helicopters had the ability to loiter near the front behind cover and pick their targets. They would then "pop up", launch a missile, and return to cover as soon as the missile hit its target. Using fast-reacting wire-guided or radio-command missiles meant the total engagement time was kept to a minimum, as there was little or no "lock-on" time required; the operator simply fired as soon as they were clear of the terrain, and then adjusted the missile's flight path onto the target while it flew. Against these aircraft, the Vulcan/Chaparral combination was effectively useless.[8]

The Vulcan could react quickly enough to the fleeting targets, but its 20 mm gun had an effective range of only about 1,200 meters, far shorter than the 3,000 to 5,000 meters range of the Spiral. While the Chaparral had enough range to engage the "Hind", its lengthy lock-on period meant the Hind would have hit its target and hidden behind terrain again before the Sidewinder would reach it. Additionally, the older Sidewinder missiles used on the Chaparral homed in on exhaust, and had limited capability against helicopters faced head-on.

Damn, this is brutal. Could beat the second smallest scenario only after 5-6 restarts. Assaulting enemy prepared defences while you have ~ same numbers and inferior armor is not what I'd call a good matchup.

Luckly I was saved by stupid cockhole AI who tried rushing my pinned down troops.

Game engine is really fucked up - I play BF4 smoothly while CMBS chokes on middle settings and lags on mouselook. All of that while looking poorly even by mid-00 standarts.

Interface is still horrible, pathfinding is still more dangerous than enemy AI.

Back to Wargame I guess - good thing those kind men from rutracker pirated it, I was considering buying Black Sea.

>Now this is really good wargame, but I really hate that game gives no information about hits/misses and penetration.
The recent beta patch gives information about chances to hit, but it only works singleplayer. No info re: penetration values however, which isn't that big of a deal since the vast majority of kills are "soft kills" ie. local routs, optics, firepower kills, mobility kills

>And I feel that some parts of the game are bugged up - for instance I had one hour delay for movement of my unscratched tanks more often than I should.
That is a bug indeed. I'll have to address it to the devs.

And I'd love to read about all that stuff, since its already modelled. Adds to immersion IMO. Ability to inspect hit info was a great feature in Graviteam Tacticts.

BTW does fresh Flaspoint Campaigns addon have more varied redfor OOB? I've grown tired of seeing just T-64s and occasional T-80s.
>>
On a side note I find it amusing that some Ukranian indie-developer, which can't even afford a proper translation of manual and their site, manages to create a wargame with infinitely better visuals than CM.
>>
>>133616797
The entire timeframe is July 1989. Similarly the REDFOR OOBs follow the (mostly) incorrect CFE treaty standards and NATO projections which think that T-80s were everywhere and in the thousands. Some units make little to no appearance: No maps take place north of Hamburg (I can fix that, though ;^)), and the 2nd Guards Tank Army is only involved in a single scenario. 20th GCA does not appear at all.

Equipment all the way down to M48s and T-62s exist, but you need to make your own scenarios for them. A lot of content requires user input, which isn't much of a problem because it's easy for anyone to do so.
>>
>>133618758

I'm always shit at creating user-made scenarios, I know a bit about warfare to appreciate wargames like this but I'm not nearly enough of an armchair general to devise interesting situations involving plausible combatants in my mind.

Last time I tried my hand at creating scenarios I basically just threw together a simulation of what would happen if ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Sweden) decided to mount a motorised invasion of Finland using Toyotaborne infantry with a a backup armor platoon of cucked Strvs.
>>
How different is the gameplay of mowas2 compared to wargame and what do I need to know before jumping into MP?
I guess the universal rule of "watch replays you noob" applies as well?
>>
>>133619274

Entirely different, they may as well be different genres.

In Wargame you command a batallion-sized force, the smallest unit of infantry is a squad of 5-10 men. In MOWAS2 you command a platoon-sized force, with every individual soldier being simulated in copious detail.

In Wargame you send 40 men to die in a street with a click of the mouse just so you can clear a corridor for your armor section. In MOWAS2 you make sure each individual soldier has enough ammo and throws their grenades properly.

MOWAS2 is much much faster, it's sort of action/tactics. And really different from wargame in pretty much anything. BTW just tried Call to Arms - new game in series - and it sucked really really bad. Enemy had M1A2 TUSKs, heaviest armor in my arsenal - BMP-3 with crappy bastion which cant score a kill even in rear projection, direct control is broken. First tank comes at level 15 and I guess its enough to drop it. Hope they'll make something playable of it before the release.

>Equipment all the way down to M48s and T-62s exist, but you need to make your own scenarios for them.

Yep, noticed that too and too bad not enough ppl are interesting in making scenarios for it, such a great databases rests unused. I am too impatient to try it myself.

AFAIK original devs do not exist anymore and Digitalmind soft initially were the publishers. May be wrong though.

Funny how they repeat horrible mistakes - you get competetive only when you rank which is a joke with tiny playerbase. And make things even worse - camera height was already annoyingly low in MOWAS2 and they make it even lower. Why the hell did they need to do it?!

I usually have good times with this deck, except when the enemy brings Longbows. I must be retarded, how do I counter them? I try to use the Tor but then it gets SEAD'd, and the gun AA is too short range to kill it. Are MANPADS the answer? Should I ditch the NK Igla and get the Russian Igla-N?

Is there something special about this unit? Last thread someone mentioned that it was efficient for its price.

Since I am naval fag, I would suggest switching out the Redut for 2 BALS, getting rid of the Najin for extra land units or landing troops, and upvetting the Hujians to 3 instead of 4: The accuracy increase helps the CIWS greatly.

With 1 AV and a 2a42 it will not survive to autocannon recon. If you want a cv that will survive no matter what, get a tank (only 10pts more expensive) and if you just want to survive artillery get a brdm.

Change Mi-6 out for more logi trucks. If you're REALLY burning for more supply, then bring the choppers.

I'm not sure the stats of the NorK Igla, but I think the Chink QW-1 is better. Consider changing Bochongsu for some Gongobyongs, the RRs are pretty good and they should have the same LMG. If the Zhandui '90 come in Wizzies, I'd take those.

Swap tube arty for Nork VTT mortars

Rest is fine, although you might want to consider getting proper fighters/interceptors. The J8Cs are decent.

I did a ton of research into autocannons a while ago because I thought Eugen was full of shit. This is what I came up with:

>ACC
NS-23/AZP-23/Akan m/470 = 15% ACC
Rh-202/M693 F1 = 20-25% ACC
2A42/KBA 25 = 25-30% ACC
ZPT-90 = 35% ACC
2A72/Bushmaster/Rarden = 40% ACC
I-Bushmaster = 45% ACC
Bofors/KDE 35 = 50% ACC [note: nerf the STRF 9040 to 30% stabs]
RH-503 = 55% ACC [note: nerf the Marder 2 to 35% stabs]
Bushmaster II = 60% ACC

>Range
NS-23/AZP-23/Akan m/470/Rh-202/M693 F1/2A42 = 1575m
I-Rh-202/I-2A42/KBA 25/ZPT-90/2A72/Bushmaster/Rarden/I-Bushmaster/Bofors/KDE 35 = 1750
RH-503/Bushmaster II = 1925m

>AP
I-2A42/I-Rh-202 = 1
NS-23/AZP-23/Akan m/470/2A42/Rh-202/M693 F1/I-Bushmaster/Bushmaster/ZPT-90/2A72 = 2
Bushmaster II/Rarden/KBA 25 = 3
Bofors/KDE 35 = 4
RH-503 = 5

Rate/comment/hate. I'd probably do some nerfing here and there myself, but these are IRL stats ported to wargame and its system.
>>

RoF is variable for a lot of autocannons so I left it alone. There's a ton of possible combinations you could do for balancing, but it's easier to just work with what you've got; otherwise, you'd have to break out the DPS calculator and even my autism isn't that bad.

They have the highest HE output/price of any unit in the game. The problem is in order to use their weapon against their target they have to come pretty close or even within AT range.

You should advance your own infantry ahead of them as meatshields, then burn whatever they encounter. They'll be safe from AT unless your enemy micros their infantry well.

While it probably does give radar more range, it wasn't for radar, it was for spotters and range finders. And while it does help, it was ultimately pointless since:
A. Radar became a thing
B. Most of their engagements took place at close quarters at night
C. Hitting ships at over 20,000 yards is extremely difficult (longest range hit was some 26k yards by the Brits against the Italians)
D. Their main opponents doctrine, the US, called for closing to 15k yards to engage and not sitting back as far as they could
E. Carriers

Not disagreeing, but I can't think of one instance during WW2 where it gave them an advantage since the vast majority of the battles took place at night, and the only daylight engagement I can think of took place in 43 and didn't have any Jap BBs.

Battleships were pretty much obsolete by WW2 anyway, aside from shore bombardment.

Bmp-1

It has 40 rounds of ammo to work with so it never runs out unlike every bmp-2 does after 30 seconds. Alpha damage capability to instagib 1 av units at max range unlike bmp-2 that will basically never kill shit at max range unless it's an ihawk in the open. Bmp-1 will never suffer "inefficient" effect due to heat. It is auto loaded, lower cost, and fills the missing asu85 role ddr lacks. All while doubling as an infantry transport instead of a seperate vehicle tab call in. You have not lived until you see a swarm of 6 bmp-1's roll up to an mbt and plink it to death.

2 cards moto90 in bmp1, 1 moto75 in btr80, 1 lstr-40 in btr80, one moto75 in mtlb all at veteran training. Swap lstr-40 btr for mi8-mtv on big maps for faster insertion and to use mi-8 as shields for department of Homeland Security hinds. On non-grindy maps you can swap the moto75 in mltb for 7 hardened konkurs in 5 pt transports. As for support, hardened tor sync well with lstr-40 and fjb-40 man-pads due to 7 he so you can reliably cover a lot of area with one tor and infantry on the front. Cheap 35 pt spaags are still fantastic though. On heli rush river infested maps Osa akm is good too.

Huh, not bad. So Moto '90 in BMP-1 fuck shit up, Moto '75 in BTR-80 can zip around the map quickly, same goes for LStR-40, and Moto '75 in MT-LB for the grind. I like it. Haven't considered making alternative decks depending on the map but in hindsight it seems like a good idea.

>No we woulda had ww2 style battles for real guiz
We nearly annihlated each other from the face of the Earth over positioning of military hardware. We wouldn't have lasted 10 minutes of actual combat exchange without both sides firing the nukes. The entire reason it was even a cold war was because both sides knew that any actual conflict would immediatly result in pressing the button in fear of the OTHER side pressing the button first.

Don't be a fucking retard.

Who in their right mind made such tight time objectives in game without active pause?

Tanks alone reach their destination in such big maps under 10-15 minutes, come on!
>>
>>133733668
You're right, there wouldn't have been any escalation. That doesn't rule out conventional warfare, however. Any real conflict would have happened after the nukes fell. Everything was designed with this in mind, it's why we even built tanks that could survive direct blasts from nukes. Everything was equipped with NBC protection and air-filtration that would have made post-nuclear combat a breeze.

No, seriously, how the hell is that possible?

The best I could do was crossing the river twice at 7th minute mark. Then Im blocked, since assault at nearby anti-air poit result in losing 4 out of 8 tanks due to lack of LOS on enemy tanks and cant recon with heli because of that AA. Also, time restriction prevent me from gathering points to get arty.

My favorite part of nato is how distinctive each coalition is in play style, as opposed to pact. For example Scandinavians are infantry focused, euro corps combine french mobility with german durability, NORAD is a nice mix of fancy tech, etc. I'm no pro, but that's how I see it.

Okay, if anybody esle would face this problem, here is the solution I used.

Not taking east->north->west route like most of guides suggest, but straight north, with two T-80BM (or how they are named, one before U) with recon to deal with eastern forces (waiting near bridge), while two Havocs clear north. Meanwhile, arty with help of recon heli, shoot as mission locations for AA - first south one, then north one and then west one. With AA clear, Havoc avoid tanks and snipe CV, ending mission.

Require TONS of luck for arty shooting and multiple save and loads. But it works.

Dear /wgg/.

Any tips for last Wasteland mission in EE campaign? With patches, I mean.

Whole Wasteland campaign was like 10x less bullshit than Able Archer and even more fun than previous Pact one, but the last mission is defense one and I hate those, since they often turns into horrible loses as AI will face no problems sniping single units out of woods and such.

I just want to finish it and get over, since I started to hate this game more than like.

What is the most efficient infantry to come with BMP-1(whatever variant)?

Obviously it is Mot-Schutzen, but what else would work best besides this unit?

Also, how would the inf slot of a DDR Mechanized deck work out, especially if focused for urban warfare?

I was thinking 2/3 of Mot-Schutzen '75 in MT-LBs, and 1/2 (or was it 3?) of the '90s variant in MT-LBs as well (always worked well in Copenhagen and Wonsan). The problem is that once the infantry inside houses teleport deeper inside the city the transport becomes useless because no LoS. What to do?

Always take bmp-1 with infantry over the mtlb. 5 pts nets you the ability to out class all transports that have just hmg, almost all that have 1 fav (heat 1 hit ko), and in numbers defeat expensive transports like bradleys (2 hit ko).

Say you buy all your infantry in mtlb to save dosh right, a card will save you 60 pts (12x5), but you are going to buy a cheap tank for fire support anyway. 12 bmp-1-sp-1's can easily give you a positive return over 60 pts in harassing fire or fire support killing soft shit and suppressing infantry. Not to mention it gives your infantry a 2fav transport ability to survive lucky cheap atgms/rpg's or mbt hits. Yor 5 pt transports lack 2 av, or a decent hmg to attempt to provide support. They are literally battle taxis with no other use but flank detection. The 12 bmp-1 can be sent to the flanks or middle of choke points and harass or get lucky kills especially considering they are going to be veteran.

East Germany lacks a cheap 10 pt fire support unit like asu85, so the bmp- is a steal considering it is basically like getting your infantry on the field for free and buying fires support.

About 2 units of Igla/Grom in cities, spread on different blocks or both together whatever you like.

Then close by behind the city you can place whatever shit you like. Radar SPAAGs, IR missiles, or a shit ton of non-radar AAA all around the city. can work, but you must micromanage the heavier the unit. 1 Tunguska with guns on can do a quick job of anything when used correctly, and it cannot be spotted within a city.

At a certain distance behind the city/frontline, place the heavy SAMs. They should be placed in a position where they can catch Evac planes and far enough to manually shut off / turn on radars in case of SEAD.

The areas you have to defend are perfectly flat, with ocassional forrests that only block your own units view, not enemy's.

Helos acted as quick react force but burned out all supplies, along with other defenders. I placed extra few FOBs, along with already existing ones but all supplies are long gone. Plus, couldnt defend the sole reinforce sector in map.

Im pretty sure that AI spawn units out of thin air anyway, but I couldnt really destroy enemy CVs in reinforce zones - too many units and arty without recon cant really hit shit (said recon cant get close enough).

Nothing wrong with keeping the thread alive, but having difficulty with EE means you have to git gud.

It seems like you do not have enough recon or helis every time you whine. Really, you can never get enough of recon. Once you spot their units then hammer the shit out of them with arty with same stats as Pion/Malka/Dana.
Helicopters are the only air units in EE, and every tactician worth his salt knows how important air support is. So use them after you fuck up their defenses WITH the help of recon+arty.

I just started playing Men of War 2, and dam this game is pretty fun.
The multiplayer is a bit weird (Including people kicking you from lobbies for being new, faggots).
The inventory system is also great, in pic related i awarded a shitty rifleman with a Stahlhelm for killing 4 germans with 1 granade.

This scenario is intended to be a final test of the 2.0.10bs restoration. Should it succeed, I can proceed to once again post content re: Flashpoint Campaigns.

The mission area is based around the Weser River crossing at Rinteln. This battle has no involvement with a grander scheme (No NVA units would be operating in this sector) and the area merely provides the battlefield for the two combatants. Combat occurs in July 1989. An NVA unit is advancing on the A2 Autobahn westward. Regimental recon has identified that while the highway itself is clear, there is a defensive NATO position located in the town of Heeßen that could jeopardize future movement along the Highway should it stand. A combined-arms Kampfgruppe is formed outside of doctrine to assault Heeßen and capture the bridgeheads over the Auebach.

The Kampfgruppe consists of a Single Tank Battalion, one MRB (BMP), two Regimental Artillery Groups (One Organic with 2S1 and D-30, the other with 2S3), An AA Kompanie, Mi-2 Scout helicopter section and Mi-24 attack helicopter section. Also supporting the KG are a flight of attack fighters. The first section are MiG-23MFs armed with S-5K rockets and KH-66 Grom missiles, and the second section consists of an Su-17M4 section armed with Fuel Air Explosives.
Note the Osas in the Kampfgruppe. At Regimental levels, these would more likely be Strela-10Ms, but they were swapped out to fill the "Soviet Big 7" threats.

The defenders are identified as a West German Panzergrenadier Battalion. Reports indicate they are equipped with Marder-1 IFVs and Mortars. In addition, Leopard-1 type tanks, Jaguar-type SPATs, and Gepard SPAAGs have also been sighted in the area, and are likely attached by company. Finally, the enemy positions are protected by obstacles and minefields, making this a breaching operation.

NATO Military Symbols for Land Based Systems was the NATO standard for military map marking symbols. It was published as Allied Procedural Publication 6A (APP-6A). The symbols are designed to enhance NATO’s joint interoperability by providing a standard set of common symbols. APP-6A constitutes a single system of joint military symbology for land based formations and units, which can be displayed for either automated map display systems or for manual map marking. It covers all of the joint services and can be used by them.

I'm not noticing anything terribly wrong. If you mean the lack of numbers and letters, that's because neither formation is properly named. Otherwise it could be that they're hard to read because I failed to use contrasting colors.

The West Germans open contact by shooting down one of the Mi-2s with AA fire. The remaining scout helicopter screens south and is given new orders to use a different pathway on it's scout mission. The remaining OH however identifies both the location of a mortar battery, as well as one platoon of Jaguar 2 TOW carriers. Their coordinates are assigned to artillery.

The Leopard 1 company opens up immediately from their treeline, unsuccessfully engaging the T-72s at distance along the road. The T-72s, along with direct fire from their attached 2S1 battery, inflict moderate casualties on the Leopard 1's, claiming 2 tanks. The Mi-24Ps on overwatch, pop up from the southern hill and disable another two Leopards.

Knowing the enemy possesses a significant AA threat, the East German commander opts to reserve his fixed wing assets until artillery SEAD can disable or sufficiently suppress them. The MSB is held in reserve for the tanks to find a gap in the enemy lines, who themselves have made an attack plan against the northern enemy positions: The leading tank company will occupy Rolfsnagen and then the rest of the tank battalion will move north into the woods to perform a flanking maneuver.
>>
>>133991060
OH reports: Fire on the mortars was effective, the Leopards abandoned their positions to defend closer, and the town is full of bad guys. In addition, enemy reserves appear to be on the move along the road. The enemy commander is engaging them awfully early, were those tanks all he had in the north?
>>
>>133992990
In light of these developments, the northern woodline is chosen to be the axis of attack. The T-72M's flank plan is abandoned in favor of simply clearing the road. The advance guard, instead of occupying Rolfsnagen, is now to approach the woodline alongside (abstracted) engineers and clear the way of any potential mines or obstacles. The MRB is then to follow them inside the woodline and prepare to assault the northern bridge at Bad Eilson. Covering all this will be the Mi-24 section providing overwatch. The D-30 batteries are then to continue suppression of the enemy anti-tank platoon.

The MiG-23s reveal that their fuel will soon be depleted and that they cannot remain on station any longer. The commander orders them on their first and only attack run: Intercepting the marching enemy reserves. 2S3 fires will help suppress local air defense.
>>
>>133995351
The MiGs failed to detect the marching reserves, and ended up engaging some trucks in the nearby woodline instead. On the way out, their primitive RWRs failed to warn them of an additional Gepard platoon that had been undetected by the first helicopter pop-up. The sky filled with smoke and fire as one of the MiGs spiraled down to the Earth...
ELINT assets and the surviving MiG identify the Gepard's position, and the entire 2S3 battalion is on call to wipe it out.

HQ was alerted by the sudden presence of thick clouds of smoke appearing on one of the far woodlines. It seemed strange, as he had not ordered any smoke missions fired and his subordinate commanders also did not report any calls for smoke. NATO must have fired them! The smoke could have been there to obscure a maneuver, but the experienced commander was aware that this was a commond NATO tactic that relied on their advanced technology: Units with thermal sights could be snuck into these smoke clouds and see out and towards a killzone, while remaining obscured themselves. The Commander immediately orders a fire mission on the position of these clouds!

Meanwhile, the T-72s have made their preparations and are ready to depart...

>>
Based hexposter.
>>
The OH confirms the commander's suspicion: Jaguar Anti-tank platforms have been moved into the smoke...

In addition, the mobile Gepard systems scooted from their positions before the artillery could hit them, resulting in a lot of wasted ordnance. Additional mortars - or the remaining survivors are spotted further up the hill alongside the repositioned Gepards. Artillery is vectored accordingly.
>>
>>134001463
Behold one of the weaknesses of Flashpoint Campaigns: Unit AI is fucking dumb.
The rest of the battalion should have stopped when the advance guard started losing vehicles to mines. Instead they mindlessly advanced, and now have all neatly stacked themselves on the minefield, stuck for 30 minutes while the engineers work their way through the new clusterfuck. Losses are 8 tanks (1 Catastrophic kill) and an unknown number of BMPs/Infantry.

Good thing the West Germans don't have any effective indirects right now, or these two battalions would be completely wiped out by the next turn.
>>
>>134002390
Pic

--------------
Earlier on, the Jaguars were not deterred by suppression artillery fires. They opened up and terminated several BMPs as well as disabling their organic mortar battery, but unluckily themselves were wiped out when the smoke cleared early, exposing them to the Mi-24s.
>>
Ambush! The advance guard runs straight into a dug-in company of panzergrenadiers, supported by remaining Jaguar systems. Casualties are heavy in the woods: the advance guard loses all but one of it's 12 remaining tanks and the survivor is routed. When the main body arrives, an additional 4 tanks are disabled by ATGM fires. The West Germans themselves are not without their own losses however, suffering almost all of their Marder 1's lost.

An unexpected Mortar barrage kills the MSB's Major and one of his staff members assume command. Artillery claims the northern Gepard position destroyed, and Mi-24s are immediately ordered to provide direct support as well as cut off any enemy reinforcement route.

Finally, the recently arrived Su-17s declare that they are low on fuel from their long journey, and can only afford one strike. They are ordered to drop their FAEs on any identifiable positions at the northern bridge, as attacking the ambushing Panzergrenadiere would be danger close.
>>
>>134004027
2S3 fire has wiped out the remaining Gepard batteries, and now Pact air power has total freedom of engagement... The Su-17s swoop in, and decide simply to drop their FAEs over the town itself, claiming a truck, a bunch of buildings, and presumably a lot of civilians. Bingo on fuel, they return home.

The rear guard tank company swings around the ambush and forward, discovering the Panzergrenadier's HQ. They continue in their advance, and get eyes on the bridge...
Another Ambush. Leopard 1s on the reverse slope as well as dug-in ATGMs/Tanks on the far bank wipe out 7 T-72Ms in a handful of minutes. The lone survivor retreats, placing himself neatly in the way of the now retreating ambush.

The Mi-24s will provide spotting and covering fires as the artillery is then ordered to turn the far bank into a No-man's land...
>>
>>134005201
Another ambush! A single Leopard 1 platoon creeps up the wooded hills and strikes both the T-72Ms and the lead MRC. Their fire is effective, destroying a platoon of BMPs, a BTR, and a T-72. Worse still, the Mi-24s are spent and hurry back to the FARP for re-arming.

Artillery is immediately vectored to their position.
>>
>>134006895
With only one hour left on the timetable, the East German commander is desperate to seize at least one bridgehead before he is relieved. Everything that can be moved forward is: Two MRCs, the Shilka platoon, whatever surviving tanks, and the restocked Mi-24s. Artillery fires FASCAM on potential enemy reinforcement routes and is ordered to intensify bombardment. The situation is rapidly becoming "Move it or lose it".
>>
>>134007563
Intense artillery bombardment finally dislodges West German forces on the far bank. The Nearby 2S1s disable the ambushing Leopard platoon, and the MRB prepares to depart...
The last action of the battle sees the two Mi-24s swoop in from the north, tossing ATGMs and rocket fire as they please. The shaken West German survivors, a handful of Marders and Leopards, are eliminated to the last man by the hunting Hinds.
The ending of the battle sees two heavily armed gunships strolling over a now silent and empty bridgehead.

However, the East Germans are out of time. At 4 hours, follow-on forces arrived to see that the highway has not been cleared of obstacles or enemy forces. Time is precious for the operation! This is a setback. While his performance isn't too terrible, he will nonetheless likely receive a reprimand from his superiors.

Considering the situation and events, the VP allocation is calculated at 41% for the East German - a tactical draw, but operationally a failure.

What lessons were learned this time?

It's pretty alright. I honestly think, gameplay wise, it's a straight improvement. Where it suffers so far is the low amount of faction depth. If it had a bigger roster, An special unit category, or at least a third faction, I'd probably not move back to assault squad.

Su-24 IMO. Personally I don't see the point of expensive SEAD. It's not more survivable cardwise, it's not more survivable pointwise, it spends a lot more time reloading, it costs more than the bomber you're screening with it..

The only advantage is that there's less time for the enemy to react.
