The bnb combos for assassin require you to be in melee range. Lightning rod is the only skill you can use outside melee range that deals noticeable damage. This means when they come in for damage, you can use an AoE or CC with a damage component to break them out.

They have an absolute fuckton of CC, but what they can do with it is limited in this patch. I think it's personal definition in most cases. For me, 'exploration' would be seeing some temple or ruins built into a mountain in the distance, and thinking "I want to go up there."
And then you DO. It's not just some fluff painted into the skybox, or an actual model blocked off by invisible walls. Maybe it's part of the leveling process/endgame. Maybe it's just some empty shell that they were planning to do something with but didn't or haven't gotten around to. But the idea of being able to poke my head around and get a look just sounds really fun.

Grapple is only ever used in PvP when you do the airborne Grapple, and only on Summoners to put their cats to sleep.
Otherwise, there's no reason not to use any of the two other skills that Grapple can turn into.

BM got nothing on Des stuns. Des got 2 charge stuns and one melee stun, BM has one charge stun and one stun you have to aim, both with long cooldowns.
Not to mention Destroyer stuns generate focus, the only BM cc that does this is his sword stance 2, unless you spec to form 1 C, which makes it very awkward to use.
BM has a bit more soft ccs which is very nice for roll punish combos but doesn't help with getting damage in when the opponent has not yet spent his roll.

They have a charging stun, a charging daze that can also be specced to be a knockup if the daze from its own skill lands, and they can use a ranged pull which can be followed by any aimed CC skill mid-animation to guarantee CC. That's two stuns and a knockup that can be used from range, not counting that every other one of their skills is a form of CC, and they have farm more skills than Destroyers

Grapple spec'd with the HP recovery is actually pretty sweet in the KFM mirror and/or vs BM, since you're going to want to try to grapple/arm-break them if you get a chance anyways. It's also OK vs assassins for the same reason.
Most other matchups though you'll probably either spec for Ice Guard or just save the points for other skills. Fighting spirit really isn't worth the points right now in PvP outside of trying to be cheesy with it.

Always let the Destroyer grab unless you've already seen him immediately go into a piledrive or he just did so within 10 seconds.
Specced grab + power slam is like 8-9 seconds of pure, unadulterated deeps for everyone, and the Destroyer gets a deeps boost with Wrath afterward.
