So can we talk about how falout 4's roleplaying is actually mostly intact?
I mean you can still be just as binary good or binary evil as in previous games. Just off the top of my head you can wholesale slaughter vault 81 right after they open the door for you. You can blow your son's head off the moment you meet him or even before he says a single word. You can even cut down every single person in the institute before you blow it up and then kill the stragglers trying to escape when you do blow it up. You can kill every person in the railroad the moment you meet them.
You can be a sociopathic, genocidal maniac and the only difference between this game and the previous ones is that the game doesn't glow red for a few seconds and tell you you're being a genocidal maniac.
And the prewar stuff doesn't even matter in the slightest. It doesn't matter if you were a lawyer or a war veteran at all because your past died and became completely irrelevant when the bombs fell so there's not even a diffrence between other games and this one since you're still basically a blank slate protag. What matters and shapes who you are is what you do, now what you were in the past.
Plus whenever the main story or shaun is concerned you have the option in every conversation to say he doesn't even matter or exist so the >muh son meme people keep spouting is sorta just a blatant lie.

Is this true? I dont remember every dialogue wheel but I sure as hell dont remeber there being any options that allowed you to advance the main quest without mentioning shaun or your primary motivation for moving forward not being finding shaun. Especially when the kellog and memory den stuff rolls around.
Doubly so when you hear the memory voice overs. It voices you're character's motivations and how they feel about the situation regardless of any actions you've taken previously or what you've said, or allegedly havent said, about shaun and thats completely outside of your control.

Literally the only things about your character that you create are its name, its face and maybe its personality depending on what dialogue """"""choices"""""" you make. Everything else was created by Bethesda. It has a pre-determined background and everything. Even in Skyrim, for example, you had more flexibility. The only thing pre-determined about your character is that he/she is dragonborn and at some point before the start of the game he/she was captured by imperials. There's not a whole lot of rping to be had. You are a courier, no matter what you do. The entire plot isn't saving anyone, or stopping some big evil. It's just picking a side in a three way battle between morally questionable groups.
You CAN go full ncr, or full legion, sure, but mostly you just pick a side at the end.
Don't get me wrong, its still more rping than 3, but I'd argue 4 is more rping.

I was really looking forward to doing an evil playthrough until I realized the only way to do that is to ignore like half of the content in the game (or more) because it's all "help this person or group" and there's not nearly as many options to do it the evil way like there was in NV. Hell one of the very first quests in NV lets you choose between saving Goodsprings or slaughtering it with the powder gangers. Then you have the fact that there's an actual inherently evil faction in NV you could join instead of picking the one that has the Commonwealth's "best interests" in mind the least. They're all misguided in different ways, but the Railroad, BoS, the Institute and the Minuteman all have varying degrees of "good" and genuinely believe they're doing the greater good, as opposed the Legion who just wanna murder, rape and enslave people and donlt give a shit about anything but themselves.

Shaun literally sent his kill bots to murder rep's of the surrounding settlements goverment who already had trade lines, protection, weapons, food, water, ect all set up.
House and Caesar cared for their own goals but they saw the wastes as a needed thing to further their own goals. House knew the NCR was the only thing providing power to new vegas and were the only things at the time of fallout NV protecting vegas from an all out legion attack. and Caesar knew that Vegas and the surrounding area's could better his own civilization due to important trade lines there.
