Also: The game has some nice idea, but it just doesn't make any use of it.
Height/Weight for example. I played a loli an there was absolutely never any part were I had to go some other way because I couldn't grab a ledge. Likewise there was like one part where I profited from my short height, but there was absolutely nothing down there. The fact that the lantern extinguishes sooner is completely irrelevant as well.
There's also too few monster types. There's like, what?, 3-4 enemy types you can scale? Cyclops, Griffon, Chimera, Dragon. That's pretty damn boring after a while, honestly.
The world is pretty damn boring as well. It's not as huge (which is good) but you still have tons of walking. And most importantly it's always some green forest-y area, which some rare clips thrown into it. Where's is snowy regions? Where is steps? And so on.
Pro are the abilities and magicks. It let's you do some really crazy looking anime shit and the magic is simply one of the best (visually and per effect) in any vidya ever.

The whole area around bloodwater beach feels like - "wew lads fuck it we're done, ship it."
Honestly though, for first-time players I'd heavily recommend NOT killing the Griffin before it retreats. Traveling all the way out to the Bluemoon Tower feels like a real grand adventure, plus there's tons of neato loot along the way and in the tower itself. Plus, you have to return there for another quest later, and you find a Portcrystal out front of the tower that you can set down for that purpose.

It is a lot better if your pawns are cooperative, if you have a strider spawn spamming brain splitter on a weak spot and you're jamming 9 explosions in there every second, it adds up and wrecks shit real fast. However, it's not one of the better Magick Archer skills.
Also Fournival, while not innocent of certain crimes, is still of much greater benefit to the kingdom a free man.

I've played Warrior from start to now, and my Pawn has been Fighter since. I always grab two other Pawns who make up for what we lack, which is magic.
But if you use an elemental sword, I notice it's split between Strength and Magic. Does this mean using say, Ardent Will on Warrior would have diminishing effects compared to just straight strength?
I ask because I'm at a choice on who to give a Gold Idol to. I'm thinking Caxton because he has Ardent Will and Almace, and it'd be nice to not sit around waiting for a Mage pawn to imbue our weapons.
Yet on the other hand, if they just make our damage suffer overall (since the numbers say it's weaker than my sword but has more magic) then I'll just hand it to Madeiline.

it can learn things that aren't good for it's class if you play melee with a healer main class, like running ahead or picking up enemies to throw them off cliffs
if you pick something similar to you, it'll also learn more specific things, like skill combos. If you use skills in a certain way, he'll learn to use them that way too
It's more convenient to have something that highlights you like tank + mage, but the pawn learning system doesn't work like that
does the DLC balance out hard mode or does it stay cheesy for a while? I'm not enjoying it so far.

I think only the damage YOU recieve gets multiplied from a baseball bat into a battering ram, all the pawns take the same amount of damage they would on normal mode.
At least that's what I think, based on what you said and what I've seen on my hard mode run.

Basically is it possible to make a character while completely clueless about the game that will be fun to play all the way through, including fashion and all that good stuff, or should I plan on re-rolling once I understand the mechanics/leveling system better?
I read that there's some end game equipment set that makes any character powerful, but again, I'd like to be able to use equipment that I like the looks of instead, to some extent. Can I go in blind and still have fun like that?

If you are inexperienced then hard mode is a bad idea considering things like Goblins and strong bandits one shot you. After leveling up a bit it gets pretty reasonable with only stronger monsters really one shotting you.
All in all if you can stick it out I think it makes the game more enjoyable as fights that have 0% chance of killing you on normal can be fatal if youre not paying attention

On another note, I believe I fucked up. I got "The Conspirators" quest from Fedel where I have to recover that letter. I went into the Soulflayer canyon and fought what seemed to be like a small gargoyle, thing is, instead of fighting it conventionally I just threw it off the edge and it died.
Now, in the previous cutscene it showed the gargoyle flying there. Was the letter loot from its corpse or is it found somewhere else in the canyon?

I'm making a mystic knight and decided that I wanted my pawn to be a full on magic user.
The problem I'm seeing with this now is that my pawn can't really learn any battle tricks from my character since we're such a wildly different vocation; also that pawns can't be MK's either.
Am I stuck now with a brain dead retarded pawn? Is there any way to help aid my pawn into being at least a decent sorcerer despite the fact that I can't train her?

Just get a mage with fire weapon buff and a ranged physical damage then. The weapon buffs are generally enough magic damage.
