The case was Turnabout Hairspray, which is archived on Guardly's twitch highlights. Long story short prosecution was on suicide watch after a pretty solid asspull on the defense's part, so both Teikan and Edgeworth were losing their collective shit.
I'll always laugh at these screenshots, they're great out of context but even better if you were there for the case.

Honestly if I had to show somebody one case to convince them to play AO, it'd be Turnabout Hairspray. Solid reasoning from everybody, both witnesses and the detective were great, defense scored a ridiculous turnabout in the face of overwhelming evidence, and it all ended with a heart wrenching cliffhanger.

They're similar in that they're both ad-libby. I don't know how far Area 3 is, I'm assuming early as I think they just finished with the detective or are currently with the first witness.
Area 2 is in the middle of preparations, but witnesses are all filled up.

Area 3 is slightly more focused on role-playing and tends to be a bit more serious.

The easiest way is to play the games and/or spectate some cases to get a feel for how it all works
Join as either detective or support defense.
If a case has pre-written testimony for a detective, that's the role for you. If it's improv testimony, you'll want to join as a support def/support pro. Keep up with the testimonies as best you can, keep on the look out for contractions between two statements or a statement and a piece of evidence. If your lead doesn't notice the contradiction, Pipe up and say "Hey, Nick, doesn't this statement sound kind of wrong? Even when you look at this piece of evidence?"

All the initial testimonies are scripted because that is how it works, witnesses are heared in advance of the trial, but from there it's improv. I'm 90% done with the case, I just need to find out who the killer should be. The problem is that two of the witnesses have some information they mar or may not confide to their lawyers (may be incriminating), but it might not be easy for them to have a private conversation without letting everyone else see what is written. There is no way to whisper to people, no?
