Savagery and Thunderous Strike are good. I don't see why they get a lot of hate. Only thing about Thunderous Strike is that you can't proc WPS skills like Feral Hunger or Zolhan's Technique, but the skill itself more than makes up for that.

I have a two handed Shaman and I'm running a similar auto attack + Feral Strike to stay alive.
I've found Wendingo Totem to be an effective heal skill. I believe the patch notes mentioned a buff this build too. It's got a bit of a small AoE though, not much room to maneuver in melee.
If you want damage, Wind Devils. You can use them to lower resists and zap mutherfuckers with lightning bolts.

I'm confused. So when a weapon says %Damage like this says % Poison Damage, does that mean each attack does 42% poison damage or does it mean that the poison damage I do is increase by 42%?

so anything that isn't "% of weapon damage" is kill
percentage bonuses impact anything that is impacted by player damage bonuses like DEE

poison damage you deal is % bonus. This is in spells or auto attacks.
IE, if you do 1-5 poison damage on attack, and your spell does 1-10, you're increasing both by 42%.
Flat value bonuses apply to autos only, but as a result, also apply to spells that do % weapon damage. IE, if your soleals adds 10 chaos damage to your attack, you do 10 more chaos per auto, and if your spell does 25% weapon damage, 2.5 will be chaos damage.

Forget about pets if you want to havefun. Plus it's hard to make hybrids work, specially for a first character.

Occultist is a pretty boring mastery by itself, but some class combos are somewhat entertaining.
Dreeg's Evil Eye, transmuted Albrecht's Aether Ray ( from the Arcanist ) and any Soldier/Nightblade/Demo using Solael's Witchfire with their autoattacks are fine I think.

Trauma is worthless if you are going for a Chaos build. Gottagofast is nice, but it's more of a luxury. The OA is the only thing you'd get out of Oleron's Rage, but even that isn't a necessity anymore because of the nerfed DA values. Simply put I'm a happy camper that I don't need to go balls deep into two masteries now to make a Witchblade work.

welp, in d2 sometimes there was all res affix, but it was quite rare. Im not saying, that it's bad in general, but in d3 whole thing is reversed, sometimes item have +resist from one element, and automatically that item is shit.
