So I'm just entering high rank in mh4u, my first hunter game, and I've decided I am familiar enough to know I love the series. Now I can't decide if I want to follow all the way through 4u or go straight to X. X seems to be more stylish with cooler armors, which I love, but I can't tell if it'll have longevity.

the skill handicraft/sharpness +1 is really good, but also really hard to get until the end game. the narga weapons are the best weapons you can get if you don't have S+1. (once you have s+1, other weapons will be better than narga, but don't worry about that til later)

Bushido is the go to style for CB in X. It has just guard, from which you can go into shield thrust. And it also has a new gp at the start of the A attack. So when you want to guard, hit A, not X+R, this way you won't get stuck in axe mode. And even if you do, you have bushidodge as well.

CB is still alright. It still does great damage and KO, but its moveset is truly fucked. They removed all fluidity of the weapon and you mostly have to rely on Bushido guard and dodge. Expect to spend most of your time in axe mode and only really using sword mode to charge.

Nope, still rapid. But compared to MH4's high rank version of it it had its raw boosted from 180 to 230, its blast more than doubled, it gained two slots, and it has rapid 5 with load up. And it can use power shot now.
