A friend of mine recommended me this game as he knows I'm a big fan of Lovecraft and, according to some of my researching, it seems like quite a fantastic game and I'm dying to play it, so much I actually bought it
There's only one minor issue: I'm really, really bad at action games. Even the simpler ones like God of War that boil down to mashing square as fast as I could gave me problems. I couldn't get halfway through harder ones like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry
I don't wanna just watch this game on youtube as it seems to have interesting mechanics regarding Insight (I didn't search much to avoid spoiling the story), so I came here to ask: is there guide for a strong build or some kind of cheese that might help a really bad player such as myself to get through the game? Buy/use the hunter axe, it is one of the best weapons for beginners and can Cary you through the whole game. That's my number one tip, but I am still.kinda new myself so others in the thread might be able to help you more. I also recommend not visiting this general until you've beaten the game once, the game has amazing lovecraftian moments where the effect would be much better if had unspoiled

STR builds make Pve trivial because you can just stagger everything to death.
You can probably grab a Kirkhammer or Ludwig Holy Blade and go through the game just fine.

Get the Hunter's Axe as your starter weapon, in trick mode, just use charged R2s all game long. Pump strength to 50. IF you happened to buy the DLC too, you can get the whirligig saw before fighting any DLC bosses in it, and only after a couple main game bosses. It's capable of cheesing enemies and doing insane damage. Get your Strenght stat to 50, Vitality to 50, and endurance to at the very least 25 so you have a fair amount to spam attacks with.

I wanted to do a mage build with arcane and dex. Unfortunately it seems it has the best dex/arcane scaling in the game and all the DLC weapons are strength for some reason.
And what is up with the spells the only useful ones are Augur and Exec gloves. Like is the game serious thinking Call beyond using 7 bullets is just as valuable as 7 augurs or two exec ghost blasts?
I also heard there is some good arcane stuff in this dlc but I can't get past the second form of ludwig.
I want to do a quality build next I think, my first run was Strength/Arc but was way overleved. What's a good build that lets me use most weapons? I'd like to be able to use stuff like Boomhammer but that's not 100% necessary

I don't really get damage conversion gems and I'm too dumb to figure out the spreadsheets.
Do weapons with damage converted into, say fire, scale with anything or is it just the base damage of the weapon+whatever modifiers are on gems that explicitly affect fire damage? It seems like they lose all stat scaling and only benefit from on-element gems but that seems kind of dumb and bad, so I don't want to believe it.
