So how do I stop Civ 4 from crashing when playing C2C? I'm in the middle of the classical era at around 800~ turns and each turn takes about a minute and has a tendency to crash randomly.
I turned down all the graphical options to low and it seemed to help a bit at least.

Generally civ in civ5 not balanced so people usually choose weaker civ so they can enjoy difficulty in game. If you want enjoy easy mode in deity you can choose Poland or Korea first then go slowly to other civ.

surprisingly so. the graphics, although obviously old, hold up pretty well and looks much better than other games from that period (DoW 1, empire at war, rome tw etc etc). the gameplay is exceptional though, the resource capturing style is a little strange at first, but it plays really fluidly with perfect population limits (in the sweet spot halfway between DoW 1&2).
still has a relatively large playerbase for a ten year old game too, with about 2000 regular players on steam.
I'd definitely recommend buying it, the sequel is a bit off though (the minimap is horrific and the screen is always a little too clustered). I am though obviously a biased source, but it is the highest rated rts on metacritic.

Try going for domination or cultural victory instead. You can't win science with babylon. When you losing with science going to money route. Found religion quickly for Tithe and then grab a lot money from follower and trade. Then you can just buy tons of army and attack babylon before he get to next era.

That's pretty much it though, if you have done a battle already it gives a literal wooden wall in between your troops and theirs which you can use as cover for your troops.

shadows (new faction) > guardians (quests/events) > lost tales (quests) > emperor edition (only if you have Dungeon of the endless) > echoes (doesn't add much, good music though) > emperor edition
id say wait for a sale for most of it though, everything but echoes and lost tales goes on sale 66%, and those two are already at 25%. if you feel like you need dlc to keep wanting to play though, get one of the bigger two, since they actually change the base game.

I'm playing normal now, first playthrough so didn't wanna go crazy with the difficulty yet. why do most people put cities 4-5 tiles away not 6-7 tiles away to maximize the tile consumption for population?
seems kinda inefficient when in late game when 3-4 of your cities are having short on tiles and gimping your city gains from food/prod
