Yep. You're just gonna need to be good at following directions. Use rxTools or Decrypt9 to generate the Xorpads by simply copying ncchinfo.bin to your SD card root. Once you learn to do this once, you'll be set for creating any future translation patches before anyone can even upload them.

Sometimes with gamepad the game thinks the mouse is out when it isn't and the UI gets stuck. I haven't figured a fix except to hit random buttons on the mouse, keyboard, and gamepad and hope it works.

MHX is the first time I've played a fully Japanese game. I haven't actually had much trouble picking up on it. I can read a lot of monster and material names already.
If you've actually played MH a lot before, you can also easily identify which needed materials belong to which monster, along with stuff like ores and bugs.

Fun as fuck, even with its animation canceling. It'll never be as fun as Blue Yian Kut-Ku in 4Uor MHObut it's still my favourite first gen monster (only because Blue Kut-Ku was kinda boring in Freedom)

Gunners get one-shot at every defense range without Defender/Moxie/Guts, so I'm not sure what you're implying with all of this. Not really sure why they kept the "gunners have low armor" crap in 4U

1872 is more raw than Seregios even with white sharpness, and Awaken isn't hard to get with a decent charm; I'd say it's a pretty good hammer.
