Is the encounter rate of DDS supposed to be so painstakingly high? I literally take 3 steps and I get an encounter, and this is leaving me to skip some battles. (I am inSera's tower by the way, but I took a long break from the game.
Anyone there has a good strat for DDS2 Satan or the battle is luck based no matter what?
I rolled dices for hours trying to make that 3 Turn Kill strat to work but i don't have the luck from that jap.
I changed some points from that standard "gamefaqs" build and added Repel Death because Satan accepts it and i changed Avoid Ring for Pass Ring so i can Charge 3 times and use a Repel Death on one Turn during the starting and Temptation phase but my problem is that a single Mamudoon wipe my party even with maxed stats.
This fucker is giving more trouble than Hitoshura and any SMT Superboss by far.

You should just especialize your characters in certain areas.
DDS is very different to all the other games in its mechanics (like hunting or the mantras).
You could try Nocturne next if you want a similar battle system, but without the hasle of the mantra system. I could also recommend you IV, DeSu and Soul Hackers.

The If... patch is going nowhere, but it's terrible so that's okay. There's a really good translation guide of Gamefaqs by Re-Miel if you must. The areas are so small that you can use the third section "by location" and get translations for the few NPCs without being walked through the game.

There is the obvious difference of swords doing slash damage while guns do shooting(?) damage.
Also, guns will always have long reach and you can equip different ailment bullets on the fly, even during a battle, you can have different kinds of bullets in your two characters, and of course: you can run out of bullets, so make sure that you always have enough and that you never run out of cash to buy them.
Meanwhile, swords may or may not have long reach, and you will need to go out of your way to have swords that inflict ailments, and still, you can only carry one of those and you need fuse demons in order to keep upgrading it.
Pro tip: guns are good for boss battles and exploiting weaknesses; swords are good for random encounters.
